Location and character of the building The staff’s attitude was very inconsistent: one second you would get some great warm Midland hospitality, the next sheer rudeness. The rooms smelled funny (my first one was unbearable. Also, the bathroom floor was covered by really old vinyl kept together by black tape!). Toilet seats were pretty shocking (made of wood and with bits coming out). Another note: once the cleaning of the rooms started, the hotel looked like a war zone with detergents, plastic bags, dirty towels and bed linen, etc all over the floors.

Had a good sleep as there was no noise from elsewhere Having reserved my room online several hours before arriving at the hotel, the staff on reception said they had nothing on the system to say I had booked a room. After showing the reception staff my conformation email, he said the bookin reference wasn't recognised. I couldn't quite understand why I wud receive a conformation email and still not have a room reserved. Fortunatley there was a double room free so I was still able to stay the night

The hotel was convenient to the train station and the staff were firendly and helpful. The furniture in the room, (Wardrobe and dresser) looked like they had been liberated from a second hand shop. The mattress was lumpy and not to comfortable. The central heating was noisy at night and kept waking us during the night.

I thought the breakfast was great. Good choice of items. The rooms were very basic but the rate reflects this. It's a beautiful building but it's looking very very tired. Chunks of wallpaper missing off the main stairs, ripped bathroom flooring I guess the investment to bring it up to modern standards is too high which is a shame. Criminal that our group all had to each pay a £2 charge to pay by card - who pays for hotel rooms with cash nowadays!?
