Score from 241 reviews Wonderful
Reason for visit was an evening football match as a xmas treat for 11 year old grandson. Was our first visit ever to Stoke. Selected hotel for location, close to restaurants and shuttle service to stadium and, more importantly, a short walk back from bus stop late at night. The staff were welcoming and the rooms were very clean.
The hotel is very very tired. Thread bare carpets, old funiture and fixtures and fittings along with poor decoration gives a feeling of being run down and lack of investment. Could hear people in the next room talking. Felt sorry for the staff who were doing a good job trying to keep the place afloat. Would not stay again.
It was good. The breakfast was nice
I came out of station and there it was. Fresh smell when arrived in room and Bathroom although a weird shape was very nice.
Never got a single smile out of staff apart from cleaners. Thought secondary glazing was going to fall out and window held up with water bottle. Bit of noise at night. Not much in the area. Old decor. Parties day and night the night I stayed here but it was Xmas.
Food in the restaurant it wasnt very good in fact i coulnt eat the main meal.Desert wasnt fresh as well.
staff cleanliness overall standards
Warm, up to date clean room it also had smoking rooms which is good for me
Need more channels n better TV
A remarkable good night's sleep in such a busy central location.
I only spent one night here, but in that time found nothing negative.
- location right across from train station - nice warm ambience - helpful staff
- I didn't try the food but was warned not to by relatives
I was pleased with the setup of the hotel. While it didn't look that appealing from the exterior, once you were inside you felt comfortable. Room had all I needed for my stay including a shower/bath, an iron, a kettle and heating. If you need to stay in Stoke this is one of the ones to use. The bar staff were polite, friendly and helpful too.
I was slightly surprised the receptionist didn't explain how to setup the WiFi when I arrived. It wasn't mentioned once. They also didn't explain the time the bar and restaurant would be open. Just need to add the small details to improve service. Shame the WiFi didn't extend to my room either.
Reasonable price. Quite room. Clean and comfy bed. Breakfast OK.
Drunken louts in the lobby when we arrived. No wifi in the rooms - this will be a biggy for most people. Personally I'd sooner pay a bit more. The bar stinks of stale beer - maybe a good clean is in order. Bad beer - please clean your pumps out. More people will go. Not enough tea bags in the room.
location and helpfulness of staff
The hotel has kept many old features and pictures, while being modern and comfortable
I know not every hotel room is perfect and will have there downfalls but a rotten window and a lot of marks on the wall and the bed was rock solid
Very clean Bathroom, although the shower door didn't shut. Very clean bed linen. Stayed here few times. Depends on which room you get. . Breakfast was better than last couple of visits, Would stay again because of Location.
Poor Paintwork. Dirty carpet. Old TV, took 30 minutes to get working. Dirty Windows with Mould on framework.
This is clearly a hotel who experienced very grand and good days. Although the appearance is slighly dated the facilties were good with spacious rooms and very quiet. We went for Unjiversity Interviews and this was an ideal location for this purpose. We were delighted with the dining and evening meal facilities. Took us back in time. It was truly value for money.
The room was ok, It served it's purpose. It was right next to the railway station on a direct line to Manchester. Ideal location.
There was a distinct 'smell' in the bar area. Although this was possibly not the fault of the hotel.
My stay was good! Staff was friendly, the breakfast was good , Facilities was good.
my room it was noisily, floorboards was loose and squeaky, the corridor door was banging which didn't give me a dry goodnight sleep, I could hear the floorboards above my room squeaking when staff was walking down the corridor.
Room in poor state of repair.
Most of hotel is good
The hotel gave room 107 a new TV as old one poor. But not done same in room 108 as I always book 2 rooms and ask for 107, 108
Liked the en-suite with jacuzzi bath though rather noisy.
Breakfast; greasy food, sausages tasteless and fatty
Big hotel! Struggling for positives
Receptionist was miserable, no eye contact and minimal interaction. Room was smelly and limited space. The view was a brick wall. The bed was springy.
The building and its vast lounges. The buffet dinner was lovely and excellent value, and the restaurant / bar staff couldn't have been more helpful.
The staff on my first morning- the lady was very off hand (doing her make up and chatting to a colleague); she couldn't be bothered to check my taxi booking until I had waited outside and asked her twice. Not impressed !
The place must have been great in the old times.
But today the place is run down. There is a lot of repair work to be done.
Not happy that breakfast was cold x coffee x not enough hot breakfast x staffs are rude x bad manner not friendly
You had to pay extra for the car park
