This hotel is hard to beat for convenience if arriving by train and the price we paid means I'd say it is an OK place to stay. The breakfast was ok and enough to set you up for the day.
I used to live in Stoke and dreamed of staying at this hotel. However that was 20 or more years ago and sadly the hotel needs a full refurbishment to return it to its former glory. Our room was fine enough but our grown up children's room was very hot and tricky to sleep in even with the windows open. The evening meal was convenient and inexpensive but there was nothing else good about it.
Lovely breakfast and night staff really friendly
Room smelled of smoke and window was so high (8 ft) you could not open it
Location, and the bar was good.
Bathroom floor, cheap lino. And the squeaky beds.
Scruffy, noisey, badly affected by ligth ingress. Poor quality fittings, several did not work - e.g. light over shaving mirror. Dirty bathroom. Clear signs of shower leaking. Needs either closing down or massive investment and refurboshment.
This hotel was perfectly located for the station and was good value for money
Very little else to see in area
comfortable bed,very helpful staff.
Comfortable bed and quiet hotel Good sized room and convenient location
Tired decoration, including bathroom door which didn't shut properly.
Staff were helpful and hotel was incredibly easy to find
Quite clean although there were some areas eg windowsill that could have done with more of a thorough clean
Not very clean in places not much tea and coffee in rooms and the cup were dirty
The bar was comfortable and "happy hour" is from Sunday through to Thursday - so cheap beer!
We booked this hotel to be close to Alton Towers, the minute we walked through the door we regretted it. This hotel is tired and could do with an upgrade. The bedding is grey (supposed to be white), the bottom sheet was put straight onto the mattress. The chairs in the dinning room have no seat support. There is nothing close by within walking distance but there is a Subway next door where you can get a fine sandwich if you arrive late!
It was grotty
Room size wardrobe and drawers
No plug in sink. Room far too noisy from the street. Door not safe. It said put chain on door - no chain. Did not feel safe as lock not secure enough so jammed a chair under door knob. Only one master switch therefore could. It use wall lights.
Location The bar and happy hour monday to thursday Staff plesant
The mattress Dust within room
Needs a refurb or a good paint... Very outdated and worn.. Could be very beautiful if maintenance was done.
Staff were very pleasant however the gentleman who was on reception should change jobs if he is that unhappy with his job
The room was very dated and I had to unplug the TV to be able to plug the kettle in. Supplies for only one cup of tea so had to go without in the morning. Room in general lacked power points. No mirror on the main room where the hair dryer was so was unable to see what I was doing and again had to go to the other side of the room next to the door to plug my hair straighteners in. The lineo in the bathroom was lifting up and had a few rust marks. Bathroom didn't have discretion glass just a net curtain which meant that you could see in at night. When we opened the lift we were met with towels on the floor, an ice bucket to catch water and the wallpaper was peeling off the wall a bit further up the corridor. Finally there was an inch of dust on fire alarm.
The period features and the very comfy bed. The room was adequate for an overnight stay
The decor in the corridors was peeling and there was a humming noise until late at night. Wifi only available in the communal areas and not the bedrooms
Central location. Staff were nice
Rooms could do with upgrading. Lack of sleep due to kids running round the hotel corridors until very late, went down to reception and they were running round there too so thought whats the point!!! continental breakfast in the room was poor asked for croissants was given nothing.
The location was superb - I walked out of the train station and there was the hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable. Good selection of food for breakfast.
It was a place to stay after a long drive. Convenient location to Alton Towers.
No Wifi in the room Decor on the tired side Son complained the other guests made too much noise when getting back to their rooms.
Close to where I needed to go on business Speedy check in
No heating in rooms even though it was very chilly for August No heating in hotel and was provided with a fan heater which was too noisy to keep on for any length of time Breakfast now increased in price from last stay and £14.00 for 2 people I would have expected that all choices of food were replenished quickly as some choices of hot food were empty and milk ran out for teas and coffees. Tables were left uncleared so nowhere to sit until staff had got round to clearing. Not enough electric points in room. Had to switch off television to boil the kettle. Mirror missing from wall in room so although there is a hairdryer there is no mirror Empty shampoo container left in bathroom by cleaners For some strange reason every drawer in the room was completely open on arrival Strange that there are now signs in the room asking not to leave anything of value in the room but unfortunately you cannot walk about all the time with your laptop etc outside the hotel
Location is the only good thing about this hotel.
The room was drafty, cold and smelling of cigarettes. The hotel hallway had a terrible smell and looked very poor visually.
The room size was big and the bathroom didnt feel too cramped. Everywhere was very clean. Our towels and bed were changed for when we got back aswel
The bit to turn the shower on and change the hot and cold was hanging off the wall so we were worried about it coming off. The room was very very warm which made it hard to sleep even with the windows open. One of the staff was quite blunt and didnt really give much instruction.
Proximity to train station. Ease of check in process.
Staff priorities. TV was extremely old fashioned and did not show whole picture. Shower underpowered.
Chair in room stained and dirty, TV dirty - radio channels didn't work. No bedside table. Wardrobe small access to wardrobe even smaller. Carpet fraded under sink and join into bathroom. Bathroom in very poor condition, shower head was broken, tiles stained from leaks - I don't think they should use that room until the bedroom and bathroom has been revamped. I could not wait to leave.
