Hostel is situated on main road in old part of city, so in straight center. Room was old, but it had atmosphere old old Edinburgh. Morning receptionist was our sunshine. She was always smiled, helpful and friendly.
I sent email in 31st Aug with few questions, I sent it again in 3rd Sept, I received answer in 4th Sept, while I was in the plane. Definitely too late. It may be improved. Hostel is not a clean place. Fungus was in bathroom. Old and very small showers. No hangers in some of them, no light in others, problem with opening the door in some. Light bulbs not worked, but were not changed. There is a space between edge of the door in the room and the floor, so you can hear everything what is going on in the corridor, including conversations. Everything was quite old and used. Floor is very old and creaks horribly. Second receptionist (late shift) was more interested in talking with friends rather than taking care of new guests. After 20 minutes of waiting we interrupted her asking for a possibility to check in. Guests were young, so they stay late talking loudly. It was very difficult to sleep as the room was not soundproof. Be careful, there is a risk of bedbugs. We did not see any. We were ensured that they were killed few years ago. However as place is not clean, everything can happen. I would not recommend that place.
Very dirty bathroom, 40 beds and just one toilet per gender, Dirty common room
Room was nice and spacious and bed comfortable.
The bathroom facilities, especially the showers are old and notsoclean
It was really close from my departure tour
My bad was making a lot of noise and I could hear people walking in the top floor
walking distance from station.
reading bed lamps were not working. there was no point to charge mobile phone next to bed. beds were old and making sound
I arrived at the hostel during the Edinburgh Fringe festival, and I meet all different nationalities. From what I hear this is a common thing not just during the Fringe festival. For me, i really enjoyed the mixture of people you get in the hostel that you simply don't get in hotels
The only thing i would say I didn't like, was the creaky floorboards. When early in the morning or late at night, if i got up and walked around the floorboards would creak, quite loud. and I felt like I was disturbing other people. but maybe that's be just being nice.
Great location at the royal mile, eady with code on door to get in and out. Liked the paintings on the walls. Cheap accommodation.
Beds have sunked down in the middle, probably cause the matress is worn out. Had to pay 10% when booked, this was not subtracted at check-in so we actually paid 10% more than what we should as we found out after we left Edinburgh. Not very educated staff, dirty toilets and showers. Fridge was filled with food, so no space to leave your own food, seems like it never gets emptied. Only tiny lockers for small things, no luggage storage. smells of mould in the stairways.
friendliness clean toilets bus to the airport in front of the house
(loud street) moonlight directly on the bed
Excellent location, located in centre of old town
We arrive at very late night and the entrance of the hostel is very small, we need to find a quite long time. Toilet is horrible, very dirty, and most of them have a broken door. No free wifi. Very loud outside at night.
Good location. Friendly staff.
Creaky floors. Dirty kitchen. Restricted kitchen hours. Shower was small. Water either too hot or too cold.
Did enjoy a nice chat with David the guy on reception was Very accomdating and friendly also the bed was comfortable and clean suppose if you just want to get your head down for the night its ok
Didn't like the fact the kitchen was closed after 11pm also the lounge area had to be closed for around midnight after a hard graft at the holi one colour fest i just wanted to relax for a few hours before turning in . And not head straight to bed also enjoyed the cold shower in the morning and also the faulty lock on room 7 could do with being replace
Only the location. Convenient to places around the city
1) Price is not competitive 2) Only one bathroom with warm water facilities. 3) Dirty toilets and kitchen. 4) Old beddings and no lockable wardrobe or shelves in the room. 5) Noisy movement outside room and cigarettes smoke from streets/ entrance
Location Rooms were basic, but ok
The shared areas, bathrooms and shower rooms were poor. No handsoap, nowhere to hand your towel, very little space. Paperthin walls and shared areas right next to the rooms.
Staff was very nice and helpful. Location is great - in the heart of the Old Town! The building is very old but the room we had was spacious and clean.
Toilets and shower were not very clean :/
Great location, low price, nice and helpful staff. If you need cheap place to sleep for a short stay, travelling without kids, this is the right choice. We stayed in 10 bed dormitory
Some smaller and bigger things broken - shower - lights in the room (individual for beds) - beds - toilet
the staff was not bad.
It was awful. I stayed at double room with a my friend. It wasn't cleaned and everything was used. pillows,duvet... disgusting..... Shower room was really hot. because there was no fan system. and water temperature was up and down up and down... and wasn;t working. and door lock wasn;t working. The hostels was worst of I ever have visited . never go there. It is just rubbish.
The crew is cool
Nobody cleans the hostel, the hostel is really dirty, the bathrooms are dirty and the floors of bathrooms are always wet, some showers simply doesn't have hot water, and the wifi is paid, 3 sterling for 24 hours of use!
Location is quite near airport bus stop and train station though up a hill.
Toilets have strong smelling odor all the time. Kitchen always fully occupied and clutter with dirty dishes etc. Very long flight of Stairs to climb. No free WiFi - only one in town without free Wifi. Not very appreciative of returning guests - no discounts for returning guests unlike others. Very high prices on the weekends - much more than the other hostels nearby. Staffs are mostly Volunteers, so not too caring (especially the female ones) but one or two nice ones.
- showers didn't work properly (water way too hot) - toilets were tiny and not clean - beds were squeezed together in a room which wasn't cleaned - location was too hard to find - rude staff at reception
The hostel has great location. And for one/two nights the price/location is just perfect, but nothing more!!!
It's very dirty and stinky. The smell is bad. We spent two nights there and it was during the week, Monday and Thuesday, so it was not so fulll the hostel, but still it was very noisy!!! For two nights or just one its OK. We didn't have any tea or coffee or breakfast in the hostel, because of the nasty kitchen!
