would never stay at this hotel again, with the exception of the night porter and one of the bar staff the staff were extremely un helpful and had an attitude. We asked for tea and sandwich at 2.00p.m one afternoon and were told lunch was over. I asked again at reception and the girl there said she would check with kitchen, we sat in the lounge for nearly an hour and nobody came back to us. The rooms were clean but well dated, the food in the restaurant was poor and the bar was very badly stocked. we had to go to reception to look for a bar person each time we wanted a drink, They were extremely short staffed and just didnt care about the guests.

The Rugby League Museum I've stayed in hotel rooms in many places around the world, the George Hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in. Huddesrfield is my home town and I was very excited about staying at the hotel with my partner. My excitement turned to shame, I was so embarrassed by the state of the George Hotel, it is truly awful, in every aspect.

The outside of the building was stunning Wall paper peeling of the bedroom walls, black mould around windows, a broken hairdryer pipe meant it almost impossible to use, electrical equipment was well past its safety check dates.. Lots of tea and coffee.. No cups (just a glass). Got accused of having breakfast when I hadnt, had to show a McDonalds receipt to prove I had eaten elsewhere. The door safety chain was on back to front, thus no use at all. Bedroom window had a large crack in it. Net curtains filthy dirty. Bedroom wall had coffee marks all over it by the bed. I will be writing to the hotel directly to discuss. Room 216 :(

The location is as good as it gets if you're planning a night out in town. The breakfast was excellent and good value. The rooms are in serious need of an upgrade. I felt like I had been transported back to the 80s. With that being said it was good value but not one to take a partner for a romantic trip.

a beautiful building in a brilliant setting not even a minutes walk away from the train station. The staff are very friendly and cannot do enough to help you; in particular the waitress in the restaurant on the 16/1/12, who served us in the evening. She was well spoken and extremely polite which is a rarity these days in some hotels! The bed was extremely comfortable, and both me and my partner left the next day feeling very relaxed. It was a wonderful stay and we would not hesitate to book in future. The only thing I could say, was that it would be nice if some of the things in the rooms could be modernised (Iron and a small board, maybe a hairdryer?) and maybe a couple of bathrobes? on the whole I thought that the hotel had a lovely feel to it, but I felt that it would maybe benefit from fresh decor in the bedrooms as I thought it was a bit dated compared to other hotels that we had stayed in. However, I understand this might be difficult if a building was listed etc, so each to their own =)

The room was warm and well serviced, some members of staff were very friendly and did their best to help within their capabilities with any issues. Convenient location for the town centre. The food was reasonable. I was disappointed to find the information on the website about the rooms to be inaccurate. The site stated that each double room had an iron and ironing board. This was not the case and the (broken) iron and board had to be borrowed from reception. I found that quite a few of the staff members were quite dismissive or lacking in basic customer service skills in terms of the manner in which they spoke to customers. I got the feeling that many of the staff were not happy in their job, and this was sadly reflected to the paying customer. It would seem that some basic training in banqueting table service is also required as some of the waiting staff had a tendency to lean across one guest to get to another instead of approaching from the guest's right. Also, one staff member had quite strong body odour, obviously accentuated by the heat generated as he was working. This smell was, however, unpleasant when eating. At breakfast the waitress on duty was clearly under a lot of pressure and this was reflected in the way in which she, rather shortly, addressed customers and made us feel a little like we were an encumbrance. It appeared that the dining room was understaffed at this point in time so I would not blame her wholly for this. I stayed at this hotel for a friend's wedding and whilst none of my complaints have left me traumatised I do feel that they did take a certain edge off the occasion for she and her husband and I would not recommend this hotel for a function such as this.

The breakfast was good, and the room was clean. The room was good, but I did not have a good nights's sleep due to the noise from the club on the other side of the raod. Double glazing in the bathroom would have been handy. The evening staff were not very good.

We have stayed at the Brook George Hotel several times. The location is perfect, as it is yards away from the station in St George's Square. We got an upgrade this time to a suite - it was very quiet at Christmas, - which was terrific - and we always love staying there. We have stayed in about 8 rooms in The George, and they are all slightly different but characterful. It isn't the most up to date hotel, but it's got charm, and the staff are helpful and accommodating. There isn't much choice in Huddersfield if you haven't got a car, but the George is fine. No complaints.

Rooms 118 & 119 should not have been offered; a Christmas party & dance/disco was in place in the public room immediately below these bedrooms; expectedly loud music lasted until 1 am and prohibited any sleep; modest discount negotiated on room charge with the manager Could have completely ruined the stay but we were more tolerant than some visitors might have been Genuine staff

The bed was reasonably comfortable . Other than that was very disappointed. It was shabby and run down, and no hot water so not able to have a shower or have a wash. In need of renovation. Staff were not sympathetic when people complained about the water saying 'it happens, thats life'. No compensation was offered. Clothes hangers would not take any weight without falling off.

Location and old railway heritage pedigree. A lovely building, and well maintained interiors; very convenient for the station and city. The management needs to tighten up on the Reception staff and some of the younger restaurant staff - very much a lack of training and control, resulting in an "it'll do" attitude and a lack of effort to give good and responsive service. Black mould around bath top-edge. Perpetual puddle straddles the entrance after rain, and they should create a space for smokers other than have them blocking the main entrance. We like the Brook George, and it could, and should address these problems
