But this is where the bad comes in...
So all hotels have their small inconveniences. The hotel and room had an odd smell to it, though I'm sure that could be put down to the actual age of the building. There was a little mould on our ceiling by our window that had a beautiful view of rusted railings and cigarettes.
On our final morning, we had 2 wonderful Brighthouse staff in said railing area having their 8:30am ciggy break, talking in voices so loud that it would have even upset the ghosts. I know it's the job of Brighthouse staff to ruin lives, but even after calling out to them within earshot twice to keep the noise down, they refused. Not entirely the hotel's fault but a system should be in place to prevent this from happening.
Upon checking out, I was asked for my bank card. I expressed paranoia to this as the full money had already been debited from my account the day I checked in. We went ahead anyway, and I noticed a few hours later that the money had in fact been debited again.
I spoke to the manager that day and the following day, yet it has taken until today, 3 days after checking out, to get my money back. In this time period I have had quite an expensive Direct Debit attempt to leave my account, but bounced due to not enough funds. This would have have happened if the problem never incurred in the first place. I now owe a fee to my bank and a fee to the company I pay DD to.
Since 2010, I have stayed in many hotels in Europe, many being in London and surrounding areas, others being places such as Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, and many many more, and this is the first time this has EVER happened to me. It's distressing, it creates anxiety, it creates confusion, and it's unacceptable as it is unprofessional.
This doesn't mean the problem has or will happen to everyone else, and it is a lovely hotel. My only advice would be to make sure you have the funds backed up just in case.
Starting with the positives, the staff were very nice and helpful. The
location was great, and the room was nice. For the most part, my fiancée
and I really enjoyed our stay.
The hotel itself has a really nice design, though I'm yet to have any persuasion of any ghostly existence. Though, my fiancée was a little paranoid. For couples who are into pranks, this is a great place! I found myself moving and hiding her belongings to different parts of the room when she wasn't looking, and even took pleasure in spending a few minutes hiding from her before jumping out and terrifying her.
