Good,
Score from 191 reviews
“ proximity to the town, tourist places, shopping area and transportation. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice. i was full until tea time. There are nice enough to let me leave my bag after my check-out so that i can roam around Colchester for a day. ”

London
The Red Lion Hotel was built in 1465 and is in the center of Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town. The historic building has original Tudor features, including wood beams. The Red Lion Hotel is one of the oldest inns in the area. The individually decorated rooms with private bathrooms mix traditional charm with modern comforts, including flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, radios, suit presses and tea/coffee making facilities. The Red Lion's old banquet hall is now the Parliament Restaurant. The restaurant offers classic dishes and still has the original wood-beam ceiling. There is also a bar and 24-hour room service is available. The hotel is a short walk from the shops and Colchester Town Train Station is 545 yards away. Parking is available at a discounted rate in the public parking lot less than half a mile away. Inn: 24 rooms The most recent booking for this hotel was made on Jun 20 at 04:44 from France.

The staff were helpful and friendly Curtains were torn in the bedroom and they were dirty. There were no toiletries other than a pump cheap and nasty shower gel and hand wash. No hairdryer. There was mould all round the tiles around the bath, the shower was partly broken and it smelt of vomit!! Nowhere was clean, it was shabby with worn carpets. I didn't like the breakfast much either, maybe it was because I was worried about the cleanliness of the kitchen. The fried bread was particularly disgusting tasting as though it had been cooked in rancid lard....needless to say I didn't eat it. Its such a shame because the actual building is beautiful. How I wish I had read the reviews before we booked. Needless to say we will never stay there again and will be advising others to steer clear

The staff were lovely and the room was nice and clean. The location was in the center of Colchester. Husband said the cooked breakfast was lovely. The room was a little on the small side and noise from the street, but we didn't notice this when we actually went to bed. No shower gel or shampoo. Breakfast quite basic, not a proper veggie option for the cooked brekkie.

Stayed in room 25. The bathe taps did not turn on at all. The shower came out in just a luke-warm trickle. No waste-paper basket in room for rubbish. Only 1 toiet roll. I cup and saucer stuck together with dirt. Bath dirty. Rough old towels.

location. toe nails on our room floor, staff came in and hoovered up but only what they thought was good enough, later finding more still on the floor. shower unusable, so offered another room that had a mouldy shower cubicle and not as nice as our room, then offered a single room with a clean shower but had to walk along landing in our towels to our room. Telephoned the manager on the following day(Monday) as was not available on day of departing, and now tuesday evening and still no reply since our telephone conversation.

Stayed for friends wedding reception at this hotel. Very good friendly staff. Bent over backwards to help us. Flexible in allowing us to check in early. Had a nice relaxed feel to it. Recommended for town centre stay. Nothing in particular. 3 star rating was fair. It had its own charm.

Nothing! The room was very dated and not very clean. It is opposite a nightclub and there is a public walkway down the side of the hotel and a big taxi rank in front if it. It was a very noisy location and we all had a night of no sleep due to the huge number of people in the immediate area throughout the night!

Old world style. Oak beams, creaky floorboards, dripping with history. Don't book this hotel if you want the bland corporate perfection of a Premier Inn/Travel Lodge. Very friendly and helpful staff. Evening menu was samey.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. I liked the style of the hotel and its history, it is in a Central location and was easy to find, the Room was clean. If i ever go back to Colchester and have to stay over night i would book into the red lion again. No car parking, the staff was trying to man the reception and the bar at the same time.

Central location, Polite helpful staff, Door fell off the wardrobe when I opened it, broken tile on wall by bath, hole in side panel of bath, stained sink, peeling bath surface, peeling tiles behind toilet, dirt around base of tap on bath, poor power of water for shower, toilet fixed too close to side wall making sitting on it only possible diagonally!!

Good location. Located alongside shopping, restaurants and pubs. Close to bus stops and castle. No lift, reception is up 2 flights of stairs, twin rooms are located on the second floor (2 more flights of stairs). Very noisy from revelers leaving the clubs up to 4 a.m. each morning. Had broken sleep every night.
