Hotel staff friendly. Old world charm

Noise from outside - late night revellers and traffic. No car park faciilties. Cost me £12 to park overnight

Right in the town center, very convenient to take bus or taxi to anywhere. Staffs are very helpful and services are prompt. There have been many comments criticizing the facilities of this hotel, but as far as I feel, it was not that bad. My room was cosy to live in, and nights were quiet for sleep.

As for the price, I think it's somewhat expensive. And no free Internet access in the rooms.

The general style and friendliness of the hotel and staff was very good indeed. I would like to say that the receptionist staff member upon my arrival on 28.3.12 at about 4pm was particularly helpful in sorting out some directuions for me from the hotel to the business venue I had to attend. Very much appreciated.

For me the important thing was price and a central location in Colcheter as I had several business trips to make using it as a base. The historical nature of the building appealed. Bed was comfy. Good sized room. Pleasant staff.

It is in a very noisy location. Light sleepers - beware! By the third night I had just about become inured to the street noise. The heating system is also incredibly noisy. There was no hot water at 630 in the morning.

The grubbiness, the poor service (they forhot my wake up call), the lack of working central heating in the depth of winter etc.

Excellent location, middle of Colchester High Street. Very friendly and thoughtful staff. Very clean. Excellent value.

The shower was a little weaker than I personally like. Suffers (as most old hotels do) from squeaky floorboards. But no massive issues.

My room was very cold and also some of the lamps had no bulbs in so we had to have the main light on.

Amazing dining room and architecture of the building. Nice bed, and room.

It was central and a building with plenty of character due to the old building making everything less than vertical/horizontal. Convenient for central Colchester location requirement and room was clean and good value for money. It met my need for crash pad for a social in Colchester.

There was no hot water when I tried to have a shower and I was allocated a room at the front of the hotel which was a little inconvenient hearing the clashing and banging from people in the street.

The building is brilliant, very old & full of history, it's like stepping back in time. It does has the potential to be a truly magnificent hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The radiator did not work in our room - it was very cold. I also did not like the leaking shower which constantly dripped resulting in a disgustingly mouldy shower curtain, we decided not to shower in the morning. Finally the breakfast was served cold. Much as I would like to recommend this hotel I feel I can't as the basics are letting them down.
