Holiday Inn Barnsley  

The staff was polite, good fitness centre. However the end of holidays was spoiled by staying in Holiday Inn - see further comments.

It was not possible to sleep in the provided room which was very stuffy and lacking the air - unmanageable problem thanks to the restrictors on the windows. Airco would solve the problem but it was not in the room. We complained about it while staying, but were suggested no alternative as the hotel was full. Further, we complained to the management saying that 4* rating was supposed to have room suitable for sleeping. Management came up with "generous" offer to stay another night with 50% discount and also saying that airco was not promised - ignoring the core problem. Further complaints caused same format answers "our rooms are comfortable, we are very sorry for inconvenience". The escalation to the top management was simply ignored. Spoiled last day of holidays, risky driving to London, thanks to management which saves money letting people suffer in the air-lacking rooms. NEVER EVER staying in Holiday Inn - its management gets rich on your health.

Beautiful entrance, convenient carparking, reception staff, bar staff and breakfast staff very polite and helpful.

The cleaners!! The room was not as clean as it could be and the cleaning staff woke us up each morning by entering our room between 8.30 and 9.

Eggs at breakfast were dried out. Outside the town, though a taxi was only a fiver.

The hotel was very clean and modern, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent.

The fact that there was access to the health club facilities was very good. Free Wi-Fi was also an added extra which was useful. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The room was a good size and well set out

The toilet was unflushed in the bedroom which was disgusting and made me wonder all night if the sheets had been changed to what standard the room had been cleaned etc etc. The air conditioning was not operating in the meeting room the following day which made the day's meeting a little unproductive as everyone was so hot.

The staff went out of their way to help with directions and local information.

The staff were all friendly and most helpful.My booking through 'booking.com' specified a room with a double bed and sofa. Our allocated room only had a double bed and on querying were told no rooms with sofa beds existed at this hotel! However, the staff were super efficient and quickly turned up with a spare single bed that they put into the room. Thanks to the housekeepers Jane and Debbie for their friendly conversation and help. Cheryl on reception was also welcoming. The rooms were clean, parking easy and facilities excellent. The choice of firm or soft pillows was also welcome and the bed comfy. Would not hesitate to recommend.

One drawback is the high price of breakfast- over £13 each - £10 if booked in advance. Lack of free wifi in the rooms is a minus point as many hotels now provide this facility.

Beautiful decor throughout

The hotel provided the perfect place for us to stay to visit family in the area. It is a delightful hotel with pleasant helpful staff. The rooms are immaculate, the beds are comfortable, the breakfast was lovely with choices to suit a tastes. Will definately be back.
