Staying with Cate at Broughton House was truly the highlight of our trip. She provides superb rooms, the most wonderful personable hospitality and plenty of perks! We arrived after a long drive. Cate showed us to our beautiful room which was had the most comfortable bedding, lovely decor and fabulous bath. There was also a small refrigerator in the room which we were not expecting. On the side table were a jar of out of this world brownies and another of outstanding cookies. There was a sheet with options for breakfast. Cate makes whatever you want whenever you want. Unheard of! So accommodating it was heavenly. There were also plenty of brochures of local things to do in the room, a cabinet with snacks and teas available 24/7. We stayed with Cate for 2 nights in mid August. The breakfasts were spectacular. One night we wanted to go out to dinner and not drive. Cate arranged for Trevor to help us out. We truly felt more like we were staying with a dear friend than a proprietor. I cannot recommend Broughton House enough. We intended this to be the only visit to Cartmel, but Cate may have wooed us to make a special trip someday to see her again. Thank you, Cate!
There was nothing about our stay that we disliked.
Lovely peaceful setting (sat-nav very useful to find it!). Cate made us feel at home and was very helpful. Cosy rooms, wonderful bed and pillows. Breakfast very tasty - accompanied by homemade jams and bread. Cate's attention to detail is very good - little touches such as face wipes and paracetomol in the bathroom, good quality toiletries. Will definately go back and recommend it to others.
Everything. Cate is the perfect hostess, and served us tea and delicious homemade shortbread and brownies on arrival. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and breakfast was whatever we wanted. Cate had also sent excellent directions in advance so we found the house easily on arrival - less so coming back in the dark after dinner! It was a wonderful place to break our journey on a long trip.
That we only had one night there, but I'm sure we will stay again in future.
Everything! Beautiful location, amazing hostess, brilliant breakfast, comfy bed and lovely room with cracking views.
Very comfortable room with many extra touches. An excellent breakfast with much home produced produce. Homemade chocolate brownies and biscuits on arrival. The landlady couldn't have been more helpful. Great fell walk from the house with views or Morecombe Bay.
First class accommodation, I look forward to staying again.
What a wonderful place! Thank you to cate for her fantastic hospitality. What a wonderful place-stunning, clean, comfortable and with everything you would need. Will definitely be returning and recommending to anyone. Hannah and Jonny
Very welcoming. Easy going but looked after very well. Room gorgeous and lovely treats.
Definately need a car for this location.
My husband and I were on our honeymoon, and I hadn't been back to England in 48 years. We planned everything before we left home, and we chose Broughton House based on the location and excellent reviews! It exceeded all our expectations! We loved everything about this quaint farm home. Even the chickens delighted us! Cate is wonderful! The room was gorgeous with a huge bed and immaculate. The bottle of wine was a lovely surprise as was the delicious bakes goodies in the room for us. The breakfast was scrumptious!! We loved the quaint village and the Priory which this little nook is famous! We had a lovely English tea at the Priory Hotel, and bought freshly made Lancashire Cheese. Broughton House is a delightful home where we would love to spend a longer period of time, which we hope to do in the future. A true treasure!! Kendall and Lynn Canada
There wasn't anything we didn't like!!
Absolutely fantastic, we were on our honeymoon and only stayed one night, but wish it was more. Cate was a great host, very interesting and helpful, and the house is amazing. Bonus points for delicious brownies and a huge breakfast. Loved it!
There wasn't really anything we didn't like, apart from the fact we couldn't stay longer!
We felt that Cate was very friendly and would do anything to make your stay even better. The breakfast was very good and nearly everything was freshly home made.
Everything. The hotel was excellent in every aspect. It is situated in beautiful countryside with suburb views. The host was eager to please. The food was very good. The facilities you couldn't ask for more. An unbelievable selection of teas to choose from, help yourself cupboard on the landing also with a variety of items that you can use in case you have forgotten to bring them. The bed was so comfortable I didn't want to get up. I would certainly be staying there again next time I am in the area. Very good value for money.
I can't think of anything negative to say about this place. If I push myself I could say that there is no pub or shop in easy walking distance. But everything else makes up for this.
Fantastic breakfast and very comfortable bed. Cate was the perfect host.
Cate was very welcoming on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble during our stay. Excellent breakfast which could be enjoyed at a time of our choosing. The house gardens are beautiful to relax in. We had a very relaxing enjoyable stay and would recommend to family and friends to visit.
The room with quality furnishings, bedding and towels. A lounge for guests use Brownies and shortbread in the room. Helpful host Good choice if breakfast
Everything provided by Cate was first class from accomodation to the gloriuos food at breakfast time the majority local produce or homemade including the bread/cakes and preserves.
A lovely setting, an excellent hostess and great facilities, with plenty of character
Cate is a very welcoming host. She goes the extra mile and serves freshly squeezed juices and fresh grapefruit and orange slices at breakfast! All beautifully sourced local food and home made bread and cakes. The gardens are lovely and we enjoyed a glass or two out there in the sunshine surrounded by beautiful colours and mature trees. It is worth the short drive into Cartmel and a taxi is around £8 if you want to enjoy a meal and not drive. We will definitely be back.
friendliness of owner comfort of room and little extras provided breakfast relaxed atmosphere beautiful location
how difficult it was to find it no eating or drinking places within walking distance for evening
Very personal service, the owner really goes out of her way to ensure that everything is comfortable, we had Bollinger and brownies on arrival! I would highly recommend this place.
