In the coastal town of Workington, the friendly Waverley Hotel offers spacious rooms, a bar, Wi-Fi, free parking and good food. The Lake District is a short drive away.

Set just 10 minutes’ drive from Ennerdale Water on the famous Coast to Coast Walk, the Ennerdale Country House Hotel is a Grade II listed building nestled within 5 acres of tranquil landscaped gardens...

In the center of Cockermouth, Allerdale Court features a modern bistro-style restaurant and large rooms with free Wi-Fi. The cozy bar has real ales, open fires and original oak beams.

The staff were friendly and efficient and happy to adapt to the customer's needs. Great breakfast. Peaceful location , even with a gale force wind blowing outside Willing to serve breakfast early as I needed to leave by 07:45
I had to get up early for work reasons and the water was only just starting to heat up.
Late booking was handled well Lovely greeting on arrival Room was lovely and overlooked gardens down to River Derwent
love the space and feel of the big house
shame the lovely big fires weren't lit
Liked the quaintness grounds and birds nicely decorated food at breakfast was well presented good value
When asked for a drink at 9:45 pm told by barman he was closing bar so took drinks to room no atmosphere in bar and reluctant attitude pity it spoiled stay
Beautiful building, design, surroundings...
Just warm radiators and water in the shower in the morning. It was a bit like taking a cold shower.
Warm welcome. Lovely hotel. Very comfortable
General atmosphere was good and the Staff very accommodating.
In Room 8 I would have preferred a bedside lamp for convenience if one had to get up in the night, rather than locate a switch on the wall behind the bedhead to light wall lights
Friendly, helpful staff from the moment we arrived right through to check out. Lovely hotel in good location. We were lucky enough to get a fantastic deal on the four-poster room, with stunning views over the river and valley. Good sized room, clean, quiet and very comfortable. The hotel has two relaxing lounges, a bar and a restaurant. I would urge those staying at the hotel - or anyone looking for somewhere to eat in area - to try the food. Absolutely excellent, both in quality and quantity - the mega mixed grill could easily feed two. I can't comment on dessert as we were too stuffed to even try some. This restaurant should be heaving year round, thanks to the variety of options on offer and the reasonable prices. I fear it is underselling itself. The menu in our room suggested typical fare for a traditional restaurant, okay but no fanfare. The menu in the restaurant has more options, but it's only when the mains arrive do you realise just how good value they are. And delicious. Irked when restaurants promise 'home made chips' only to be let down? Not here. Proper light, crispy chips. I cannot emphasise how good they were! All round, a warm, friendly hotel that ticked all the boxes, and then some. Hope it's not too long till we can go back.
Nothing, it was all good.
Nice location, good breakfast
My room was freezing cold, despite the radiator being on all night. There wasnt any hot water for a shower in the morning and the wi-fi was very slow.
3rd time ive stopped here now, great location friendly staff and excellent food"would highly reccommend"
attentive staff, excellent food and beer. Enjoyed our stay
Nothing to comment on.
Stayed in a room with a fantastic view across to the Lake District Mountains. Lots of space and comfortable rooms including spacious lounge and bar. Food was excellent
Exterior of Victorian House. Lovely peaceful gardens to front and rear. Exquisite interior. Exquisite public rooms. Exquisite grand staircase. Exquisite and tasteful décor. Beautiful bedroom. Excellent mattress. Tastefully furnished. My Hungarian wife's "dream" of what an English Country House should be! Excellent restaurant. Beautiful breakfast! The friendly hospitality to be expected from "typical Cumbrians!"
There was nothing I can say we did not like!
Breakfast Clean rooms
Evening meal food wasn't good Dated decor
The hotel was beautifully decorated, the lounge was very welcoming with comfortable settees and a lovely log fire and the restaurant was very nice too. Our room was quite big compared to others we have experienced and very nicely decorated with a lovely bathroom and excellent views through the windows. The food was excellent with the best homemade chips I have ever tasted. Breakfast was very good too - loved the fried bread! The staff were very friendly especially the nice man on the desk who took us to our room...need I say more!!
The beautiful setting and facilities at the hotel. I did not expect the standard of quality for the very good price. Very friendly staff and a wonderful open fireplace after a long day filming!
Only small criticism - make the food to order rather than buffet. We were the only people eating that evening and there was a tremendous amount of food left over
The garden and Gardener was lovely very friendly and gave good advice about where to go and enjoy walks etc... the beds were comfortable and the room and facilites were adequate for what we required. The breakfast and breakfast staff were phenomenal.
The room (number 7) was over a noisy part of the hotel where there must have been a door which constantly slammed for about two and half hours both evenings. not great when you have a headache. There was a few issues with mould in the bathroom and around the window sills.
beautiful location and high quality facility. Our room may be the best one there, windows on 3 sides with view of lawns and valley.
Staff were a little lacking warmth. Nice, but not very service oriented. Still a good value, but need a little hospitality training.
close to main roads although difficult to find using sat nav ,usually fairly quiet
Food a little on the plain side and needs updating
Value Location Facilities
everything Dan and the staff Are a credit to the hotel Well done guys
Comfy beds Really lovely food Quiet rooms Comfy beds
Very nice classic country hotel, very helpful and friendly staff. I would be happy to stay again and tell friends.
The hotel condition was dated and poorly maintained though. For example our room overlooked a tarpaulin and brick repaired flat roof.
lovely place to stay although we did use it only some where to put our heads as we where visiting family
bathroom needed a good refurbish
Clean, Friendly, home, whacking up and pull back the blinds and 3 peacocks on the wall out side and so restful. food grate. If it wasn't for work it would have been one of the best couple of days this year.
little cups in the room for tea making. I like tea and lots perhaps a choice and a couple of mugs in the cupboard.
