Score from 85 reviews Good
Our stay was very pleasant in this hotel located 30min far from Windermere lake and its touristic crowd. The area is beautiful with a nice view on the sea 5kms away from the hotel. People inside were very friendly and helpful, especially regarding the trips around the lake that the owner knows quite well. General atmosphere was also really warm. Very good value for price hotel in the region.
The whole experience was so relaxed. Friendly staff good food and obviously lots of alcohol available. The best was our Jack Russell was so welcome he enjoyed the fuss. Great landlord dog lover. Very helpful for places to go. GREAT
friendly atmosphere ,good menu with home cooked food which was very good and the cumbrian full breakfast is very reccomended. the rooms where clean , all in all an enjoyable stay.one more thing the beer is very good as well .
nothing in particular
Food ambience staff
Staff and accommodation were excellent. Food delicious.
Room was right next to a busy main road and no amount of double glazing could keep the noise down.
The staff were brilliant and made us feel "at home" as soon as we arrived. The evening meal was great, simple food cooked very well and lots of it!. The locals also were really friendly as were their dogs! All in all, a nice pub with a good atmosphere.
The A595 which runs straight past the front of the pub is noisy when your bedroom is overlooking the road and your trying to get to sleep. Bathroom sink had an odd smell coming from it, we remedied this by putting the plug in the hole.
Staff, Power Breakfast, Power Showers! Ambience, Location right on the road easy to find, Fragrant fresh towels, Thick Bloody Mary :)
double room could be a bit cheaper
Comfortable Bed and the hospitality of the staff
Cramped en-suite and sticky bar tables
Very good food. Made to feel very welcome. Rooms nice and clean.
The pub is in need of decoration and looks very tired.
The staff and the food were excellent (the meals were not haute cuisine, but they were well above pub grub, and stand-out in terms of value for money). The room had a good spacious shower, with apparently endless supply of hot water. The band was good, and didn't finish too late: all in all, a really good stopover for a couple of days.
The furniture and fittings were a little tired in places - but it is a local pub (and the quality of the beer went a long way to offsetting that).
Friendly attentive owner and staff, really appreciated the breakfast pack up as had to set off early hours.
Food and Staff very good
Beds Not Very Comfortable
The atmosphere is of a welcoming country pub that services locals and travellers with equal skill. The bar is cosy and the locals very willing to chat, to assist and to support their point of view. Very good breakfasts and bar meals. The staff are particularly friendly and helpful
The location is five minutes out of Ravenglass and that may not suit some. It suited us as we wanted to be just out of town for the peace and quiet.
A great place for exploring the Lake District and climbing Scafell Pike. Very clean room with new furniture. Free wi-fi. Full English breakfast in the morning. Very friendly people.
Nice clean room excellent food at breakfast and in evenings good choice of beers very friendly staff.
Bedroom was clean & reasonably comfortable. Breakfast was good. Staff were pleasant & friendly.
In need of a makeover especially the carpet up to the bedrooms which was very stained. We couldn't watch much tv in our bedroom because the signal kept breaking up. Our bedroom was on the front facing the main road and I was constantly woken by traffic passing at high speed during the night plus neighbouring dogs barking!! At breakfast we had to keep asking for things which should have been laid out ready for breakfast.
Beer and enormous breakfast
excelent breakfast especilally the sausages
dirty carpets, decorations a bit tired
The meals at this establishment i.e. dinner and breakfast were excellent Very near to the Ravensglass railway which we intended to visit
The absence of wifi and a mobile phone signal were a benefit. It meant that we could just enjoy ourselves without disturbance!!
Nothing - loved the place and its surrounding location
Freindly staff, relaxed atmosphere and good menu
It was a proper old fashioned pub with friendly locals
Location. The hospitality provided by Phil was first class.
The disco downstairs 'til midnight (To be expected at weekends)
Very friendly & comfortable
No phone signal! But wifi available in the bar :)
Myself and my dog were made very welcome and this was shown for the duration of our stay.Nothing was too much trouble for Phil the manager. A very enjoyable stay indeed.
