Browns is a quaint little hotel in the middle of Laugharne. No expense has been spared in the refurbishment of this place. Bedrooms are decorated in a retro/boutique style and our en suite bathroom was beautiful with its huge walk in shower. The bar serves local ale and the full English breakfast was delicious.
Very small car park...we had to park on the main street but there was always space not too far from Browns. The lighting in our room wasn't quite right...too dim. One of the lamps was missing a light bulb and wasn't replaced for the duration of our stay.
Beautifully furnished, characterful room (which was huge) Comfy as hell bed Big roll top bath Quick wireless Interesting books and nick-nacks (old cameras, typewriters, gramophones etc) in the room and around the hotel Teapigs tea selection in the room A cafetiere and coffee (not just instant) in the room Friendly bar and staff Good Penderyn selection :) Local beers Decent pub grub Great breakfast from locality Steeped in Dylan Thomas but didn't feel too kitsch Fantastic location
Minor gripes: One or two more choices on the bar menu would be good, and the orange juice at breakfast could be better (pet hate, not unusual though). The wait to be attended to at breakfast was a bit long (Xmas period and they were stretched - breakfast arrived quickly once ordered though, and was great). These points are minor though - we loved our stay!!
Wanted to visit this hotel for some time. As historically a favoured haunt of Dylan Thomas. Was not dissapointed, the hotel is the perfect unsanitised boutique hotel. Staff were great, breakfasts superb , locals friendly and my 16 week old puppy was made to feel very welcome. Rooms and bathrooms amazing. Can't wait to go back.
None - apart from would have liked more variety in terms of sea food on the dinner menu.
Rooms, ambience, staff, meals and location couldn't be faulted.
Nice hotel with good atmosphere
Stopped serving food at 8 pm as they had been busy ! I complained and they agreed to serve a meal . No vegetables on menu . Come on this is 2014 and you let a good hotel's reputation down very badly .
great breakfast comfy and clean room lots of tea and coffee in room easy parking hot, new shower
wifi too weak to use in room
Location, ambience, bedroom decor, bar
Staff failed to clear dirty cups and glasses from the bedroom
nice bedrooms and bathroom
Evening meal was not good the meat in the steak pie was poor quality and chewy & the young woman spraying cleaning product around when your having your breakfast is unacceptable
Great atmosphere Really super staff Great location
Bathroom shower needs looking at Bathroom was boiling hot Menu limited
Loved our room, very large and open loft area with beams, plenty of storage, lovely bathroom. Bar area very friendly with a good atmosphere, especially for Dylan Thomas fans. Laugharne is wonderful.
Would have liked more choice at breakfast, maybe croissants and more fruit. Stairs can be a bit steep, but this is an old building, and bath can be a bit difficult when getting out of from shower.
Great location in the centre of the village and easy walking distance to all the sights. We stayed here because of the association with Dylan Thomas. Our room was fantastic and had a separate toilet and separate bathroom just for our use. Our room had Dylan Thonas books to read.
For a solo traveler, one of the most important things for a place you're staying to have is a warm welcome. The ladies who checked me in were absolutely lovely, as were all of the staff.
Great bedroom, like Hotel du Vin. Good bar, strong WiFi.
Food choices poor
The locals and staff were very welcoming and friendly, The room was lovely and the huge bath tub was so relaxing. Breakfast wasn't too early which was great for the lie in. Fab time
That we couldn't stay longer.
The decor and fittings were a high standard. The location is lovely Nd very peaceful.
The wall between my room and the en suite next door was so thin I could hear every noise as my bed was positioned against this wall. The girl on check out tried to charge me another rate rather than the agreed one
Fantastic bar packed with friendly locals - I'd go there every night if I could! Friendly, young staff Great room Perfectly situated Great breakfast
Having to leave!
Guest rooms refurbished in 2012 was not only luxury but so comfortable. You can relax in the bar on the ground floor where Dylan Thomas once enjoyed his ale afternoon and listened to people's story, enjoying not only a pint of ale but also lots of Dylan-related pictures on the wall. Helpful and friendly staffs.
For fans of Dylan Thomas, this is the only place to stay in Laugharne. He really did drink here. His boat house and writing shed are a small walk away. Under Milk Wood was supposed to be based on Laugharne. The village is like a step back in time. Go there.
I certainly didn't like the low beams. I'm 6 feet 2 inches. The beams were about 5 feet 4. I would recommend tall people to make sure that they don't get a room with low beams. Food menu is basic but plenty of other places in the village.
The Hotel was well located in Laugharne, was easy to find and the parking was convenient. It had more atmosphere that most pubs with rooms. The bed was good.
With such good reviews we had high expectations but were disappointed. Nothing was actually bad but the staff were fairly indifferent. The rooms was interestingly decorated but a hanging frame was the only space for coats. There was shower gell and shampoo in the bathroom but no soap. The plaster was cracking in places and some paintwork needed attention. Breakfast was definitely average.
Caffatiere? Coffee in room, lifesaver. Staff down to earth friendly.great position for sightseeing.parking & good outside space. Very clean & comfortable room. Totally loved it.
Our room was very spacious and the breakfast was delicious. Staff were very pleasant. Would stay again
Quality of room and facilities Relaxed and welcoming staff Nice location in pretty village Good staging post for Irish ferry
The bed was very comfortable.
It was clean in the bathroom. I found hairs in the shower and around the bathroom floor.
Now upgraded with luxurious, elegant rooms (the deep bath was a particular favourite), the hotel nods to its associations with Dylan Thomas with poetry evenings in the bar. Owner John Tregenna featured as Sinbad the Sailors in the recent BBC TV production of Under Milk Wood and is a Thomas expert. Laugharne is small and beautiful and best explored over a couple of days with memories of Dylan Thomas in mind. Ideal for a short romantic or literary break.
