The staff bent over backwards to help us. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely and I had a four poster which was gorgeous.
The evening meal was very good at this hotel, but I believe the restaurant takes priority over the hotel and it's guest?
Service at the restaurant was a bit on the poor side, e.g. Opening the wine and plonking it on the table after being recommended not allowing us to tats the wine or pour the wine! Come on guys the meal we had was excellent but it's the small touches that makes a place stand out for the good or bad! Breakfast could really be improved by using good local sausages not processed, and fresh orange Juice not the cheap stuff. I believe if you did this the brakfast would be perfect, saying all this I would definately stay again!
Nice house and good restaurant, excellent staff.
We had a fantastic meal- with lots of exotic choices- but the family have not stopped going on about the sauce with the wood pigeon and how perfectly cooked the steak was! Well worth the drive- thank you!
Shower not great- and only one towel in a room for 3. Didn't matter so we didn't ask for more- sure they would have been helpful.
loved the family room. loved the quirkiness of it and the garden looked lovely
Lovely building and ambience overall. Pleasant reception and nice room. Plenty of coffee/tea etc in the room. Hairdryer provided.
No free wifi, Items (sugar, fork)missing from breakfast table and had to ask for them. Cereals provided on the table but a small milk jug with enough milk for them but none left for the coffee (in fairness I suppose this prevents waste) Wardrobe rather small and few hangers. I'm not usually picky but the place would be spot on with a few very minor niggles corrected.
The staff were very friendly. The family room was more than we expected
location and good parking facilities.
a bit too cluttered for me, always associate clutter with dust, but thats just me, the rooms were clean. no facilities until evening time, so had to go out even if thou didn't want to.
friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms. Good breakfast, especially eggs benedict. Lovely garden.
fussy/camp and dated décor. We had to ask for bath towels, hot water for a bath, teabags in room to be topped up - there was a general lack of attention to detail. We ate once in the restaurant which advertised itself as fine dining. It is not. The starter was not gravadlax with dill sauce but a cone of smoked salmon topped with redcurrants in one corner, a salad with grapes in the next, a bowl of chilli dipping/salsa in another and a squiggle of balsamic topped with a raspberry in the fourth, poor commercial bread rolls and not-quite-butter. our mains were perfectly okay if they had been left alone instead of being overdecorated, barely cooked green veg and limp chips. we passed on pudding! Grapefruit at breakfast was also toped with redcurrants kiwi and grapes and eggs benedict came with the now ubitquitous balsamic squiggle. this is a definite case of more is less.
Very welcoming to dogs, and very pretty garden and patio area. Excellent meal.
Room was a bit cluttered and I found the duvet very thick making me uncomfortably hot at night. Location only rated good as no pavement but loved local area.
A beautiful building full of character and charm. Helpful staff. Lovely gardens. Good location for beaches and other attractions.
Stayed in top floor "Family room" - Long frilly valances on beds and bedside table cloths were dusty and dragged on the floor (My young Grandchildren afraid of concealed spiders!) Bedside tables very flimsy. Tea / Coffee making unit glass and quite fragile - not really suitable for having young children nearby. * Not the Hotel's fault* -, but the adjacent road is a busy A road, and footpaths through the village are virtually non existent. A very dangerous walk to the local shop and nearby pub and playground with two young children.
Quality of hotel was good. Room was large and very clean. Public areas were comfortable.
10% service charge on whole bill. A surprise at the end of an otherwise good stay.
They took money from cc without our consent! They said that the dirty brown water just needed running for the spa bath but all that resulted in was a dirty brown cold bath. They served me a cheese toastie with ham in but I am a vegetarian and there was a fuss about that as I could have it after 9pm but it does not say that in the room. The wifi is £5 but doesn't t work outside or in the bedroom. There was no rose wine left and taking money after being asked not to on arrival from our cc
The family room was lovely although a little warm. Welcome excellent very pleasant stay. Breakfast stunning!
Thought the meals were a little price - also £6.50 for a large glass of wine - perhaps a little steep.
food was good and good location.
room had NO bath, only shower, had to pay for Wi-Fi. When booking.com said it was FREE,should have been told these things on booking, also room needed cleaning.
food was amazing - its not cheap but its worth the money for a treat the staff were great
we were in the attic room and the wifi didn't work
The welcome was very poor, stood waiting in doorway until acknowledged by someone sat by the door using a PC that could have been a guest who said'im buying the winter hanging baskets.' We found out five mins later he was one of the owners and then checked in. Apparently we had the best room costing 120 for the night but apart from a four poster bed the room was furnished with a mishmash of secondhand furniture in an attempt to give the impression of classic quality. This failed and was more like a grandmothers eclectic bedroom. The night was spoilt further by a severe domestic by a middle aged couple who were clearly very drunk and arguing and crying was heard from 12 to 3.30am through very thin walls. The breakfast was nothing but basic, not a la carte standard and overall a very disappointing stay. We raised these points with the manager on our departure who later rang us to say that the police had to be called as that couple arguing had smoked in the room and caused damage. Well frankly we did not need to know this. The manager offered a 50% discount off our next stay but we stated we would never return to this hotel. We later requested via email that instead of giving us 50% off next time just give us 20% refund as gesture of good will. We have to date not heard anything back. It is clear that the young couple trying to run this bed and breakfast are clearly inexperienced in this trade, based on our experience from the basics of welcoming guests to dealing with complaints. They have clearly put a lot of effort into making the hotel look pretty but with the fairy lights and decor it is getting almost to the point of being over the top and vulgar, and with the prices being charged and the actual impression of the interior design, it did not achieve the objective of portraying an excellent and opulent establishment but rather a shallow, overpriced one without substance.
Bathroom and beds immaculate.good quality bedding and towels.staff very helpful and friendly. Beautiful and quirky house lots to look at and a lot of thought had been given. Gardens absolutely beautiful.
Bedroom a little dusty but this did not bother me.
The restaurant was lovely and food really good. Outside appearance lovely with plant, lights and garden. Communal rooms decorated to high standard but more for show than user friendly.
Advertised as having bar but this was in restaurant so staff had to bring out drinks. Communal rooms great décor but so many cushions hard to sit down and no clutter free surface to put drinks. Being charged same price for substitute room as one booked storm damaged, which had bathroom opposite not en suite as booked sink very slow draining dribble of a shower and was in attic so velux windows no view.No WiFi in room TV did not work. Told because in attic poor signal and that room would probably not be used after end of season yet still charged price of original room. Blood spots of squashed bugs on bedside table cloth.
Having to go back home!
first class food wine and service we had a fantastic weekend.
Bar drinks far too expensive/never paid £6. A pint For larger even in London. This was an major deal breaker for us.
The location and garden.
Gardens were beautiful and very relaxing. The lunchtime tapis menu was great
Food was very good but pricey and drinks expensive. Eg £6 for a pint of peroni. The hotel was dog friendly which was great and why we chose it but after you cleaned up after your dog there was no bins to dispose of waste.
A 10 per cent surcharge on whole bill - it was £60- not told about this before or on booking!
Wonderful hotel and room, food was amazing and staff really friendly I would definitely go back and recommend this place.
