Location Building Staff Food and drinks
Ensuite was miniscule
Great staff, excellent breakfast. We had a lovely night at Bull Inn.
location, ambiance, cleanliness, food quality was excellent
Lovely location, quality breakfast, friendly reception staff , good selection of beers and wines,
Toilet stained , in need of bleach. Filthy cloth light pull over cord in bathroom generally not clean . Poor tray in bedroom, dried up coffee and chocolate in small glass jars , only two tea bags ,no milk available. Room small without drawers or wardrobe. Room very hot even with fan on, no summer quilt. Had to park two streets away, even though it said no need to book parking as plenty of room.
On rather late arrival at 9.45 pm we very much appreciated the efforts of reception and kitchen staff to provide us, out of hours, with dinner. When we had a hiccup with breakfast one morning, while we were not happy with the quality of what we ordered, nevertheless, and without us commenting with staff about this issue, that evening the restaurant manager approached us, most apologetically, about how sorry she was about this matter. Indeed she offered us an appropriate compensatory couple of drinks. We were impressed with her proactive attitude. Throughout our 4 days stay we had noticed how friendly, outgoing and helpful all the restaurant and bar staff were, along with lovely touches of humour, and we were especiaaly impressed with this given how busy they all were. And finally, when we were faced on our last day with the challenge of meeting our flight baggage restriction requirements, and travelling with over 80 kilos of stuff at the end of nearly 7 weeks vacation (lucky for some!), we cannot thank Helen enough. She seemed to be some sort of Girl Friday, popping up unexpectedly all over the place, day and night, working an extended schedule which would not have been out of place in darkest Africa or the Asian sub-continent! Furthermore, she took the initiative, and was kind enough, to bring from home a pair of scales which enabled us to switch our bagggage weight around, without which we would have been busted at check-in. She was not only most efficient but she was unceasingly good- humoured and with a wit and charm second to none. We therefore cannot say enough about the excellence of the Bull Inn staff, along with the joy of being in such a wonderful place and location.
Without being experts in the matter it seemed to us that the building was in urgent need of renovation and refurbishment. We were impressed by the building being of historical significance, and it is a pity if the charm of this pub/hotel becomes lost over time for lack of proper care and maintenance.
Age & convenience
Plumbing( no hot water)!
Friendly , good food, good location
Access to rooms with cases
Quaint hotel, good beer, good breakfast ( but slow service ).
Room was very small . Have booked next year provided we get a bigger room .
Despite the pub being very busy on this gorgeous summers evening we were well received, shown to our room and everything explained. Dinner was very good indeed. Amazing ribeye and good choice of wine. Would definitely recommend
Excellent breakfast with good friendly service.
On arrival we were at first greeted with indifference and had to wait until the man behind the desk asked someone else to attend to us. It was a very hot night and the temperature and airlessness made the very small room unbearable. A fan would have helped! Things were much better the following morning when the proprietors were there. We would use the hotel again, but some staff need a bit more training in customer service.
Beautiful small village. Very friendly staff and delicious food in the restaurant. You will need a car to get there and get around though. Highly recommended though.
Room was very tight. It was hot few July days while we were there and very stuffy in the room. Even a fan did not help.
breakfast was good, shame about everything else.
it wasn't shabby chic - just shabby. The tiniest shower room ever and slightly grubby. the washbasin was so small there wasn't even room for the guest soap. Not even a comfortable chair in room. Although obviously it was overpriced , the whole place needs a clean.
Lovely old country pub in quiet lane in Sonning. Good breakast with good choices.
Leaving my electric toothbrush in the bathroom - and it disappearing.
Run by a great couple who have staffed the Bull with a great mix of friendly and caring people. Always a pleasure to relax, dine and stay there.
Rooms were a bit small for two and the noise from the pub a bit loud.
Convenient to Henley. Nice old building but needs serious money spent on an update
Rooms were tired and even the curtain valances were hanging off! No hot water in the basins in the mornings. Service was unprofessional - most staff seemed tired and unhappy apart from the young lady who served breakfast on the second morning - she actually smiled! The restaurant was mediocre and service there patchy - when one of our party ordered something that had sold out, after 10 minutes the waitress emerged and simply said 'who had the >>>? none left!' No apology, nothing. Not a place for a repeat stay unless there was nowhere else!
A lovely busy pub with great atmosphere, beer and food. Close to the Thames tow path for beautiful walks and cream teas at the lock keepers cottage a stones throw away. Small but well equipped room we booked this at the last minute and were very pleasantly surprised. Helpful and friendly staff and one of the best breakfasts I have ever been offered.
Shower was slow to heat up
On our visit the hot water broke down. It did get sorted. Our evening meal was disappointing. Neither main meal was up to scratch. Our dissatisfaction was dealt with excellently by the young staff.
Location and look of the place
Tiny bedroom Guests chatting til midnight outside bedroom window Pub but hotel prices
1. The Full English Breakfast 2. All the locals we spoke to raved about the food.
We were not offered the specials menu, which appeared to be vastly superior to the standard one. My wife choose the BLT sandwich for £8.50 but they forgot to add the L. This was on a Monday night! when they weren't busy.
Old-world character is nice and located near the Thames
Internet / Wifi access is extremely poor if not bad. No resident bar service after normal closing time but then it is a pub-with-rooms rather than a hotel.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the pub itself was lovely and the food was very good. The room itself was clean and comfortable.
Wifi was non-existent (looks like it's connected but isn't). The shower was not much warmer than lukewarm, particularly in the evening, and the sanitary bins in the pub toilet were both overflowing.
Excellent food and location
Noisy after 11.30pm and early morning delivery lorry from 06.30 am
Really nice country pub, great staff, great food, clean and comfortable...
