The Golden Pheasant has been providing accommodations for weary travelers since the 18th century. Today it offers rooms with private bathrooms and good food.
Score from 406 reviews Good
Serving local produce, offering a friendly welcome, efficient service and a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere, this former 18th century inn is ideal for those seeking to explore the Cotswold region.
Score from 386 reviews Excellent
This traditional inn is in the Cotswold village of Burford, between Oxford and Cheltenham. It mixes original character with modern comforts, including free Wi-Fi and award-winning food.

Score from 200 reviews Very good
No staff presence in evenings. No lighting in main areas in evenings. Side door left open all night and security an issue. No central heating and tiny blow heater in main dining room. Cheap and wrong impressions all round .poor quality toasted bread, orange juice and freezing cold main areas with no heating.
would not recommend and would not return
Very attractive very traditional english hotel. Lovely comfortable room.
We felt that, for the price £130 pn, that little things like face cloths, shower caps etc could have been provided. Toast appeared to be limited at breakfast. Came to pay and no wi fi connection - had to walk into town to get cash. Assme this was a one-off!
Friendly Oriental gentleman on Reception. He appeared to do everything else too.
Hotel wasn't welcoming it was cold throughout and dark - took hours to warm our room
Leaving was the hardest part.
Friendly atmosphere great breakfast, lovely cosey room. First class host.
Cold bathroom, thin towels, weird breakfast ordering system
Accessible to very good eating places. Local to different individual shops.. No need to take the car out for the evening.
Location is not as convenient as other local hotels. It's a 10 minute walk from high street. Hence only people from the hotel use the bar. Resukts in a lack of atmosphere and activity.
Newly decorated, pleasant staff.
Bar could have been a little more atmospheric and a little on the expensive side.
The roses and petals on the bed were a nice touch for Valentines night. Good quality breakfast.
The room was beautiful and the staff very welcoming nice breakfast and really enjoyed the stay thank you
Lack of restaurant facilities. Lounge/breakfast room extremely cold.
Staff were excellent. Breakfast also very good.
ON APPROACH, LOVELY BUILDING, GENTLEMAN ON RECEPTION VERY NICE WITH A BIG SMILE. VERY GOOD DECO, AND EXCELLENT ROOMS. CANNOT FAULT THIS PLACE. WELL DONE..
The lodge is situated next to a busy road, but to be honest it didn't bother us. The lodge was cold in the lounge area not just in temperature but in feel of the place, just not very homely. However the staff do try to look after you and are always there if you want anything.
The lodge is well located, only a short walk to restaurants and pubs. The staff are very friendly and very attentive. We stayed in the Junior Suite which was very comfortable and lots of heaters for warmth. (We visited in Jan) I would say this is more of a B&B not a hotel.
from our room we could hear everything going on outside in the hallway and the other rooms
Nice room and bathroom; lovely breakfast in the morning (lots of choices); fireplace in the restaurant area.
Shame that our room only had a shower and no bath. A bit of a tricky one but I don't always know what I want for breakfast the next day - i like to look and see and make my decision in that morning. I know it's helpful for them to have a list so they know what they are cooking for breakfast the following day, but i found it a bit strange being given a list as soon as I arrived to tick as soon as possible and give back . Also the list assumed a cooked breakfast was required, whereas I might have preferred just to have cereals and toast. I would have liked to choose in the morning. The cereals and toast option could be ticked on the list i suppose. It wasn't until my second morning though that I saw the cereals. They were difficult to see as the tiny containers are hidden behind a pillar so you don't see them despite them being there to help yourself to! The shower cubicle could have been a bit cleaner- the grouting is quite marked/discoloured in various places. Also the toilet door didn't seem to lock. The door into the room seemed difficult to unlock/open and then hard to know how to lock it from the inside. the locks on both doors were a bit strange. I know it was a very cold couple of days, but the breakfast area felt pretty cold both mornings despite fan heaters going. It would be good to be a bit warmer there, as the room is so lovely and warm. It's a shame they don't use the breakfast area as a restaurant in the evenings.
Staff very helpful and polite and friendly. Lovely bed- firm in itself but soft and warm because of the mattress protector underneath the sheet. Very light but thick duvet.- could get a bit too hot at times especially with the heating on. Good shower and plenty of hot water with a full shower head that worked perfectly. Very nice to have bottles of shampoo/shower gel and hand wash and body lotion too. Very good cooked breakfast and speedy breakfast service and big variety of cooked items to have. Generally a nice place. Perfect location. Easy to walk into Burford within 7-10 minutes, and that means you can drink with your meal in the evenings, or enjoy the walk into the town and do what you want in Burford without worrying about parking. Easy to drive to lovely Cotswold villages and towns from here, though if you're here only a short time Burford will give you plenty to enjoy.
Dirty shower curtain and damp smelling.
Shower was very small for a tall person. Nothing going on for New Years Eve which was a shame.
Great room and enjoyed the breakfast
Bit of condensation about - probably due to rooms using fan heaters rather than proper central heating - clearly this would be a massive investment though.
Friendly staff. Decent breakfast. We had the junior suite which was well proportioned and tidily furnished. Good room.
That there was no bar open to sit and have a drink in the evening.
No restaurant and a bar area that was not inviting at all. No Xmas lights switched on and no fire going due to fuel running low . More choices for breakfast
Room was to a good standard . Bed was comfortable albeit a compact double . Bathroom was acceptable although bath was a sit in bath .
The Hotel was very cold .. Breakfast came out cold and had to be reheated ..
Staff where friendly and help with what ever was asked from them .
The staff were friendly and helpful which was important as I was travelling with a toddler which can be challenging. The staff accommodated him at meal times and did what they could to help. The hotel was not busy when we stayed but I think their helpfulness would transfer even if it was busy. Plenty of space in our room and lovely clean crisp sheets and towels. The cooked breakfast was good. All in all a great stay for a good price. I hate paying a huge amount for hotels that quite frankly don't warrant the cost, this little hotel was good value.
Having stayed at this accommodation in the past (prior owners), it could do with the restaurant being reopened. Breakfast could also have done with being earlier for a business traveller (earliest was 08.00am).
The shower was a definite case of form over function! A walk-in shower with doors difficult to close and absolutely no place for any soaps, gels etc other than on the floor.
The staff were very helpful and friendly
