The stress free stay. Every thing was sorted for my arrival.
Wifi was available for free but unfortunately it was down when we arrived but come on the second day.
Near to town
The fact that the spa and pool were closed and the alternative pool was not very nice, think there should have been a reduction in the rate as half of the facilities were closed. Also they put us in a room next to where a workman was laying new floor tiles so we had a rude awakening on our second morning with him cutting tiles etc.
Booked this hotel so I could take my daughter swimming as part of the holiday. Was told that we could use the leisure facilities of the hotel next door as their leisure facilities were being refurbished but every time we asked we were told they were full and they would ring us when there was a space. We never received a phone call and each time we questioned the use of the other pool the receptionists were not at all helpful and sometimes even quite dismissive. Will not stay here again. Wifi reception poor at times.
Position was good.
Booked specifically because of leisure centre only to be told when we arrived it was closed for refurbishment. Wouldn't have booked if we had known that. Also no finishing touched in the room very basic.
plenty of parking, easy to walk into town. very good food plenty of choice .Bringing the Spa up to date.
Lovely hotel and location all home comforts made welcome nothing too much trouble can't wait to return Chris/mcr
The evening stay was lovely. However in the morning the cleaners were hoovering outside the room and couldn't relax and then the barged into the room whilst getting changed. Not impressed.
Good food. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice room.
Not keen on choice of music at breakfast, also rather loud on some mornings.
It is very well located, just 10 mins walk from Bowness centre, so you can walk out for dinner. BIG room, lovely comfy bed - but the wi-fi is dire! The Leisure Centre is being refurbished, but they rang to tell us that in advance. Breakfast was very good. The hotel is huge - it must have been fabulous when it was a house - but is probably in need of a refurbishment. I loved its shabby chic, however, although the multifarious swirly 60s carpets were eyecatching.
the wifi needs speeding up to keep the hotel up to speed. i liked the rest of it!
Hotel was lovely, currently being refurbished. Our room had been recently done & had an amazing lake view. Room 105. The food was fantastic & service was great. The hotel facilities were not available during our stay as the leisure club was having a complete overhaul but we were contacted beforehand to make us aware of this. Breakfast was brilliant, definitely worth adding it to your stay. Nothing was a problem & my little boy was given lots of attention by the friendly staff. Children are very welcome & it's somewhere ideal for couples and families.
Location and breakfast
Problem with shower, stained and dirty carpets, no wi fi in the room.
I consider myself well-travelled and have stayed at countless hotels stretching from Peru to across Europe and deep into East Asia. I can say with confidence that my stay at the Burnside was one of the worst hotel experiences of my life, and I have stayed in some awful places. Just a few of the issues we had during our stay: - Despite their claims, there is no wi-fi at this hotel. Or, more accurately, it doesn’t work and they can’t be bothered to fix it. To make matters worse, they lied about it too. When I asked why it wasn’t working I was told that there was “a fault in the area” and they were working on sorting it. There was no such fault down the road at a local café. And anyway, the “fault” was continuous during my four days there. - The food from the restaurant was tasteless, poorly cooked, expensive and downright embarrassing. As for the service, pathetic bordering on obstinately rude would be being generous. The waiting staff are likely poorly paid, so I do not begrudge them too much, but I do not expect basic requests to be ignored. - The gym/swimming pool is undergoing a refurbishment and the hotel called us up to tell us this and that, to compensate, we could use a neighbouring hotel’s facilities. Fine. We went to said hotel, and were turned away as they were busy that day. On informing the Burnside this, we did not even receive an apology. Instead we were told that they were in communion with other local hotels to see if guests could use their gym/swimming pool instead. They said they wold let us know either way. They never did. There is so much more wrong with this hotel – the burnt toast at breakfast, the weakest tea in the world, the fact that someone changed our "do not disturb" sign around to "service our room" - I could write several books about it. But hopefully this review will give you a flavour of our experience. Avoid this hotel like leprosy.
Family room was fantastic , with a separate room for our 8 year old .
Shame the facilities were not available as they were being refurbished , but no doubt will be great when back up and running
Got to be the room/ bed
Didn't get wifi in the room
Excellent friendly staff, clean modern comfy hotel, close to pubs and shops.
Shower was terrible, trickled out, took ages to wash my hair ! No alarm clock, and no pegs to hang your coats up.
Generally it was comfortable
The breakfast was cold and also the plates. The bar staff were friendly but could have been better with bar snacks.
Good location; friendly staff and clean rooms.
Leisure facilities closes for refurbishment (not advised at the time of booking). Limited dinner menu. Food quality disappointing. Bathroom very small, no grab rails to bath/shower and no toilet roll holder.
We saw part of the refurb done when we stayed here in the reception and entrance and if that standard will be through the whole hotel it's going to be stunning! The bed was very comfy, rooms need updating a little, shower was rubbish- not powerful at all but for one night it's not a massive deal. The spa facilities were out of bounds when we were here so would of been nice to see those but next time! Breakfast was lovely and all the staff very helpful. Would stay here again but probably wait till refurb is done to see it!
The hotel was decent and well situated.
EVERYTHING was under renovation. Complained about the WIFI and they said that its working. 2 nights, not one video was streamed. Main lobby was being re-tiled. Gym & Swimming pool closed due to renovation works. Basically, paid for Best Western and got the worst out of it.
Great location, friendly staff and well appointed spacious room with lake view. Nice lounge areas to relax in with a drink after a days exploring and plentiful breakfast - even to suit two fussy kids.
Shame the leisure facilities were closed due to refurbishment. Wish we'd known beforehand but look forward to returning when complete and open again.
The location of the hotel was brilliant with less than 5 minutes to the lake and town centre. We booked a DBB package which was very good value, the food was excellent and well presented
Cannot fault this hotel
The breakfast and evening meal was excellent ,staff very friendly I would return and recommend
Relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff, good food
Leisure facilities closed for refurbishment
ideal setting, lovely breakfast
We had room 128, next to it was a generator room that operated the lift, the noise was horrendous, we never slept all night, complained the next day and got a refund. Totally spoilt our trip as we were far too tired on the Saturday to do anything, just drove home instead of taking the option of a second nights stay, also the indoor pool is being refurbished so is closed, was not told this before we booked, total let down really, the plus side was the manager we spoke to offered a full refund immediately.
the in-house painter/decorator was very knowledgeable on local places to eat and confirmed our walking route, please pass on our thanks to him.
The children's matresses were not fit for purpose, I wouldn't have put my dog on one. We should have asked for replacements but it was late when we got into bed and we were tired. Drinks from the bar were disappointing, in particular the two hot chocolates were made with water not milk and didn't look or taste good, similarly the baileys liqueur coffee was disappointing.
