A Suffolk pub with its own on-site brewhouse, The Old Cannon Brewery offers accommodation and dining less than 10 minutes’ walk from Bury St Edmunds Abbey.
Score from 100 reviews Very good
The White Horse is a friendly country pub in the picturesque Suffolk village of Beyton. Located close to the historic town of Bury St Edmunds and within easy reach of Newmarket and Cambridge.
Score from 70 reviews Excellent
Quiet location. Helpful staff. Well furnished room.
Difficult to reach without a car, very expensive taxis
Far from town
Reception desk staff were very helpful
Rooms were very rarely cleaned, and rubbish bins left for 2 days at a time even when full
Being woke up by screaming lady and lots of banging , very scary indeed.Second time something has happened, last time was fire alarm went off so we rushed out to reception where the staff just said false alarm no apology, didn't seem to bothered.
Fantastic staff hotel would not be the same without them.
Beds not comfortable
We had to change rooms 3 times down to the fact that the shower was broken in all 3 rooms.
The bed was very comfy. WIFI was good.
Bathroom was filthy and toilet wouldn't flush.
Staff really great, friendly, helpful and smiling
WiFi not connected Two cold breakfasts Room not double glazed so noise from A14 was bad Shower produced a slightly warm mixture of air and water
The room was comfy, the staff were pleasant and the breakfast was good value for money. The hotel is easy to locate and central to the area
Cleanliness. Friendly staff. Good location.
Bed very small and in need of a new mattress. Bathroom in need of upgrade. Very tired and old fashioned. Hair dryer available but did not work.
adequate, comfortable, good food.
Room not cleaned properly - marks on worktop and bath still visible when left hotel after 3 nights. Asked for sheet and blanket as duvet too hot/thick. Hotel does not have blankets, fair enough but, agreed would put out 2 sheets/duvet cover. It took 2 night to action despite asking 2-3 times and then only 1 sheet, by this time not enough as turned cooler so back to too hot duvet.
We arrived late at night, hungry.Staff were friendly. After trying to find somewhere to get food outside of hotel open without success. A member of staff found us some crackers and butter. I liked that she tried. Id stay again.
Our room was very far away from reception. It seemed a long walk away, considering hotel didn't seem that busy. There was a seat in shower, the seat had seen better days. I would suggest a snack/drinks vending machine brought into hotel.Would be handy for guests.
Overall convenience and comfort
Easy parking & near the town & the dual carriagway .Good location .Cheap & cheerful. Happy staff.
Hotel looking tired, needs refurbishment. Breakfast is expensive. Rooms are small & hot! in the eves (Late Sept) Boked a double room. Room only had one bedside table.
The Domestic/cleaning staff were helpful, cheerful & friendly. Facilities were adequate for the price we paid for room any dearer would not have been good value for money.
As I am disabled I found the fact that there were too many stairs both up & down to get to room. It was very difficult for me, in fact the hotel is like a rabbit warren! Reception area is not welcoming & too dark. Only one bedside table in double room.
Bedroom was away from the road.
Lounge seating was poor. The bedroom was quite small. Coffee range very limited.
Not a lot.
Very poor dining facility, which caused us to eat elsewhere. We didn't think that the price asked for was in any way value for money. It was quite obviously used by contractors and the like, which I think didn't help the staff with their handling of other customers. We had an issue with your pricing policy which changed by £25 for the same room, but had only signed for £59. Won't be back soon.
Good value for money. Later check outs than most places which was ideal.
You get what you expect for the amount paid. We were in a room very close to the main road. Noise level was ok, managed to sleep fine.
Comfy Bed Good TV Good Tea Making Facilities Lots of Plug Sockets
Breakfast was over-priced Evening Menu was over-priced
The friendly staff and location very good and the room was very comfortable and clean ,
The cleanliness of the reception, foyers, corridors and restaurant were poor and could do with an overhaul. Cheap and cheerful!
Location and pleasant staff. Location ideal for purpose of visit to Bury St Edmonds
Tired facility that needs investment to return it to previous standard. Amazed that bar had run out of local beer; the brewery is a short distance away!
Location was perfect for Bury St Edmunds and touring the area. Room was modern & clean. Layout of hotel excellent. Staff really helpful
Restaurant service was a little unorganised at times.
Having a ground floor room as we are bth disabled
The coffee machine failed during the evening and was still defunct at breakfast. No member of staff was able to fix it and had to wait later in the day to have it fixed by the supplier. No one had the nouse (wit) to look out a kettle so tea and coffee could be served.
Bedroom clean, comfortable and fairly spacious with a decent sized en-suite. Good location for our visit to Bury St Edmunds and surrounding area.
Breakfast was a bit chaotic on the last morning for which we were not charged. Staff, however, were very apologetic.
Lovely walk into Bury through Abbey garden.
