Less than a mile from York’s historic centre, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are good-value rooms and a restaurant and bar.

Staff, Food, Rooms
Beautiful old country house, lovely setting, tastefully decorated, warm and welcoming staff, excellent food. This was our second stay and we would return.
Renovations were ongoing while we were there. Our "small" double room was indeed small! Bit of a squeeze when our travel cot was up and there was no where to sit down apart from bed.
Good location, very nice rooms and staff are very friendly and helpful.
Not worth £170 for one night (a Saturday night). Also I had to have a cold shower in the morning.
Dining, peace and quiet, lovely old building.
Damp patches on some walls and bathroom. Tired furniture in bedroom and scaffold restricting view from one bedroom.
Beautiful setting. Polite, friendly and very attentive staff. Allowed us an early check in as we had an afternoon activity planned nearby.
Rural location meant additional call out charge for taxis for only draw back. Would like to visit when leisure facilities are fully renovated
The location and feel if the hotel was good, the breakfast was very good quality and lots of choice.
The hotel, is a little tired and needs attention, especially a lick of paint.
This is a country hotel converted from a residence in an attractive location with both breakfast and dinner menus (pricey but good quality). Our room was on the top floor; it was furnished in a very modern style that isn’t our taste but was comfortable. I don’t think we ever met the owners but the staff was friendly enough. Overall, it was pricey for travelers en route like us.
Room was too warm. Ads for hosting weddings demonstrates the market this hotel is aimed at.
Location was ideal, close to attractions and places of interest we had planned, at no point were we pressured to dine with them and were left to our own devices.
The building work that started at half 8 every morning!!
What a fantastic find! Hotel is stunning, the staff were excellent and went out of their way to make sure i enjoyed my short stay. As this was a business trip I needed to leave quite early and was unalbe to make breckfast so instead I was provided with a selection of items the night before to accomodate me. I will definately be back when i am in the area again.
My room and en suite were clean and immaculate. I went for a quite break on my own and the staff were both efficient and friendly. The food was amazing and well presented. I highly recommend it.
Nothing to dislike.
Food and service good in restuarant
.Bedroom was comfortable but lots of .little things requiring attention - door handle broken, shower handle broken, tap broken,no plug next to mirror for hair drying, shower dirty and no shelf for shampoo in shower.
The whole atmosphere was very relaxing and friendly.
mattress in selby room was bit uncomfortable.
Nothing. Dr Rob Baker, 29/01
Great location, lovely food and very helpful staff.
Disappointed that the swimming pool was out of action for repair, as this was one of the main reasons for choosing this hotel. There were various features around the hotel that needed a little maintenance e.g. the front door needed painting. The shower curtain in our room Jervaulx did not hang inside the bath, so we had to mop up after showering! Overall though, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return.
it was a really comfortable stay The food was very good
We felt the plumbing was a little out dated and some of the furnishing and decor needed a little tender loving care!
Really liked the location and the rooms. The food was fabulous.
The advertised 'leisure club' (sauna and pool) were shocking. The pool was absolutely filthy (could not see the bottom) and the sauna could not be accessed due to large holes in the stairs. It was a pity since the hotel used the leisure club to justify its expensive nightly rates.
I loved our room it was spacious, clean and comfortable. The bath and the bed were a touch of luxury.
The pool and leisure facilities are in need of some attention. It is outdated and dare I say a little dirty. It definitely lets the hotel as a whole down. The service at reception was a little bit rushed also. And when we were leaving it took a few rings of the bell before we were attended to.
Very good small hotel in a beautiful landscape setting. The food was superb. Lovely dining room with gorgeous view. The furnishings in the lounge were very comfortable and cosy. Our bedroom was spacious with comfy chairs/sofa and a flatscreen. Big bathroom. Worth a visit.
