Dinner on the Sunday night was booked for 7.30 We finally started eating at 9.15. The food was a long way from fine dining, just pretentious, lukewarm and with many errors(almost raw pork tenderloin, smashed mussels in another dish.etc) I gave up waiting for coffee at 10.45. The first waitress seemed to think this acceptable, but her replacement Lisa, was much more switched on. Every poached egg at breakfast was hard and had to be sent back. Not my idea of luxury at all.
The staff were, with one exception, delightful. They were extremely helpful and made our family tea party for my sister's 70th birthday a very good experience.
The room was quite small but comfortable, though the bed was on wheels which moved very easily. A bit disconcerting!
I did ask for a walk-in shower, but ours had only an overbath, which was not ideal for me.
I must praise Marc, the general manager, who went out of his way to compensate for failings which happened when he was not on duty. He wrote off the cost of two dinners, and gave us plenty of champagne for the party tea, which was very good, with constant replenishment.
