Red Lion Hotel, hotel in Woolfardisworthy

Set in a charming fishing village, in the Hartland Devon Heritage Coast, The Red Lion Hotel features rooms with striking sea or harbor views. There is free private parking, free WiFi.

We liked being so close to the water and having the convenience of a bar and restaurant in our hotel. In the morning, we enjoyed watching people kayak and swim along the shore, and then walked up the steep hill to eat breakfast in another inn just for something different. Upon checkout, a kind hotel employee drove his Range Rover up the steep hill in front of us. That helped to relieve all the stress of driving our underpowered stick-shift rental car up the steep narrow drive while imagining another car coming down the hill towards us. Once we were on our way, we drove to nearby Hartland Point and after walking around the shops and restaurants where we purchased a wonderful book called The Salt Path: A Memoir by local author Raynor Winn (highly recommend it), we spent several hours hiking the gorgeous SW Coast Path. That was one of our best experiences.

Roads are narrow in places but plenty of pull ins to pass other traffic. Great places to visit nearby, and local shops not too far of a drive away. Great beaches to visit in local area and walks to do. Is a good base to stay in to visit Devon and Cornwall.

Didn’t actually go into the village of Woolfardisworthy as the roads are very narrow so we went to more accessible locations to get our supplies. Very close to Clovelly which was lovely to visit (if a little expensive!). Nearest sandy beach is Sandy mouth, dog friendly all year round, brilliant!
