The Black Boy is a 16th-century inn within Caernarfon's historic town walls. It has good real ales, hearty meals, and is an easy walk from the town centre and 13th-century castle.
Score from 573 reviews Superb
WiFi did not work correctly, breakfast not served until 8am food service at dinner was slow.
Good position. Great views from seafront rooms and lounge / bar. Also, an easy walk into the small town for pubs / restaurants. Decent breakfast. Comfortable lounge. Free wifi.
Dinner service finishes at 8pm. Bar at 1030-ish. Rooms a little expensive for a 3-star hotel, but not outrageous. Wifi only in the lounge area, not bedrooms. Flashing smoke alarm above the bed at night!
Great location, food great, very clean
Disappointed children are unable to stay, so chances are we will be unable to stay again until the children are all grown up.
We were very impressed with the hotel. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and enjoyed the breakfast. The room was not huge, we stayed in the standard double, but was very clean with a great shower. I would recommend this hotel and would return if in the area again.
Location the views from our room (24) were amazing.
staff friendly and very helpful room lovely although poor view bed very comfortable food excellent
Great room, big and comfortable with wonderful views. Great bed,
Lack of fridge in room, a not very good iron in ironing room. Main complaint would be the tasteless food. How can everything taste so bland from roast beef to toast it all tasted the same, it really let the hotel down.
Everything. The contemporary décor and furnishings were the perfect complement to the good old fashioned attention to service. And Sam, the chef during our stay, produced some of the finest dining we have experienced for a very long time. Peaceful and perfect.
Food was excellent and dining room staff very good. Great location right on the beach
Internet only available in the lobby. Asked to change a double room for 2 singles and staff showed no flexibility with price even though rooms were available.
The hotel is in a fabulous spot. A room at the front with views of the sea and the castle is well worth it. Staff are friendly and attentive and cleanliness is excellent.
Vegetarian main course options for the evening meal were limited and uninspiring, however puds were yummy!
Refurbishment to a high standard and established a modern feel to a classic seaside hotel. Staff friendly and welcoming.
The lift needs upgrading to facilitate visitors with mobility difficulties.
good value for money.
no car park
Quality of room decoration good. Staff on the ball. Good outlook. Train is not a problem.
Access for car parking for disabled person difficult. Manually operated lift doors are antique and difficult to operate. Lift openings do not coincide with floor levels, Four more steps at third floor level, after leaving lift. This hotel is not disabled person friendly.
Location , interior, comfort, cleanliness, friendliness of staff, food. Everything about the Caerwylan was excellent and far exceeded our expectations. Will definitely stay there again.
There is nothing negative to comment about .

if highly critical, parking could be a problem at peak times
Staff welcome was amazing. All staff can not be more service minded and understanding. Location is really very good. The hotel itself is in amazing refurbished condition!
Car parking was a bit of a problem. Coffee was really not good - easy to fix. Staff were helpful with the wireless internet access, but sadly it was very patchy and should be improved.
Classy rooms, great sea views and attentive staff makes this a great stay in North Wales.
Can't find any fault
Staff very friendly and helpful, always available to assist. Restaurant food superb, excellent breakfast, service excellent. Room made up and tea/coffee replenished, fresh towels daily. View from our room were lovely, it overlooked castle and sea. Excellent all round.
Location overlooking the sea, the room was modern and clean with a really comfy bed. All staff that we met were very friendly and the food, both evening meal and breakfast were tasty with plenty of choice. Would definitely stay again.
The only down point could be parking at really busy times of year, but we had no issue on this occasion, and there are a number of garages to pre book if required at a very reasonable price.
Friendly welcome. Good value dinner. Good location on seafront. Comfortable room although rear facing.
Limited safe parking outside the hotel.
Setting, location and friendly staff.
Parking difficult breakfast average.
Right on the front so views across the bay and of the castle Excellent breakfast. Modern, tasteful room, high standard of cleanliness Provision of dressing gowns Friendly helpful staff
excellent location efficient and friendly
Food ... excellent Staff ... very friendly, efficient, competent and responsive
