Having just spent two nights at the Calcot Hotel, I felt the urge to write to you. My wife and I took advantage of an offer you supplied for two nights at a non-refundable reduced price. Past experience doing this caused me to expect a reduced quality stay as is often the case. Hotels have to make up the cost of an offer somehow, and its often by reducing whats available to guests. Imagine then my surprise and delight to experience one of the very best quality two days in an english hotel We have ever had! The rooms and beds were perfect, the food was excelent. And the friendly and helpfull service was second to none. We were even moved rapidly to another room with no fuss at all when we realised we could not sleep directly above a wedding party disco! I can assure you that on our next outing we will go first to a Best Western hotel, and if anywhere near Reading, it will be yours. Thank you and your staff for a pleasant and memorable stay. -- very best wishes from SEAN WILES

Good value for money and despite it being a weekend with a large party taking place my room was very well insulated from any noise.

Staff very nice. Knew their job and gave good cutomer service from breakfast staff to function staff and even night security. All very pleasant and professional. The room was dated and clanliness coud have been much better. On entering the first thing you touch is the lightswitch... Grubby!! Three tisues in the tissue box.. .. very very oldie worldie shower hardly worth getting in and the bath just not very clean looking. Ripped off toilet paper hung from a old holder .. not very indictative of a stocked room... All ok but a bit basic for £49.50 .. I do like the calcot hotel because its a convenient gathering ground... Just needs updating and a higher attention to detail. I would recommend but tell them not to expect a sparkling room.

The hotel staff were polite and efficient. The room was as described on the website. THe room was small, but as I had booked a single room, it was more or less as expected.

The cleaning staff kept the communal areas very clean and tidy. The T.v and heating worked in our room. The room smelt damp and musky. The room needed much updating I.e decor, bedside cabinets needed for both beds and light switches in more convienant places. Maintenance on nail sticking out of furniture and light fittings not working. Towels should not be washed with softner as we found it very hard to dry ourselves with them. Receptionists need to be alittle more welcoming but they were not rude. Finally the £10.25 breakfast was more like a £4.00 greasey spoon cafe meal. Very dissappointing. The hotel from the outside seems plush but unfortunatly the inside and front of house and quality of food is not! This is not a complaint just fact!

Stayed with a colleague for the christmas retro party. Had a good evening at the party - excellent food - don't know how you did it for all those numbers. Had a brilliant time. Staying was a fab idea too, reasonably priced and not chucked out too early either. Didn't spend the £10 on breakfast thought that was a bit steep.

The convenience for our house-hunting trip was very good. The meals were very good, the room was a fair size and was clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The door from outside to the bar area does not have a slow closing effect so the noise from all the people going out to smoke and then coming back in without closing the door properly was a little annoying but was not a terrible problem to deal with.

“The staff were so helpful. Whilst they missed the comment that I was travelling with my 2 daughters and needed an extra bed in the room on my booking, when we arrived the staff did everything to accommodate us. We ended up staying in a suite with a room for my daughters and a room for me, overlooking the lake - very comfortable and the views in the morning were stunning. Thanks for a lovely stay. ” Ian, Plymouth |
