Perfect location, professional waiters, bar and reception staff. Gorgeous room with beautiful view.
Our bathroom was a bit toothpaste stains from before guest. A duvet needs a bit of cleaning or use bedsheets what is not let come out of cover.
Small but comfortable rooms with great showers and lovely beds
We spent the last night of our honeymoon at the Caledonian and it was everything we had wanted. Fabulous!
The doormen were incredibly helpful. The location was convenient. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. One of the ladies at the front desk was very helpful and pleasant. We had requested both early check-in and a view, but were accommodated around noon with a room (there was a festival so we understood, but did wait all morning without an update).
The air-conditioning didn't work the first night, we had to request it being fixed. Someone tried to enter our room while we were sleeping the first day after check-in. The shower leaked greatly, even under the marble. Service was uneven, and non-existent in the Bar, certainly not up to standard for this level hotel.
Save with great café just outside the door
Food and drinks pricey but expected
Design of hotel is beautiful. Location excellent. Large beautifully furnished room with excellent views of the castle. The doorman and front of house staff were superb.
Bathroom - bath sealant grubby, floor tiles loose, tap dripping. Very few English/Scottish speaking staff in the restaurant and bar/lounge area. Some had difficulty understanding what we were asking for - and we couldn't understand them either.
Prompt and polite service throughout stay (doormen, reception, porters, room service, waiters) Room and bathroom were clean and spacious. Spa quite but looked very new and clean. Location fantastic right on Princes street.
We hesitated between breakfast in room or in Brasserie and regretted going to Brasserie which was rather small and not as well appointed as the other parts of the hotel. The food was good but there was no toaster and when I asked for toasted wholemeal they brought white bread. Breakfast was also quite expensive 21 pounds per person. The air-conditioning in the room was through air vents in the ceiling and was a bit noisy.
The health spa; the service; the general cheap atmosphere of the hotel
The spa facilities were excellent. The hotel itself is a lovely building, and is situated in a great location.
We were initially given a room that had been smoked in. We were eventually moved to another room after we had made a couple of phone calls to reception. The staff in the bars and resturants were either slow or just didn't return. We spent a lot if time waiting for service, and after the desert menu didn't arrive we just paid and left.
Staff were very accomodating and friendly. The rooms were very spacious. The bedding was gorgeous. The good quality of everything from the food at breakfast to the furniture in our room.
The wait at breakfast with 2 youngish children who are hungry and grumpy.
Amazing location, right in the middle of everything. Beautiful rooms, comfy bed and well cleaned. Impeccable service from all of the staff.
We seemed to be hassled a lot on the morning we were due to depart, but otherwise a wonderful stay!
Excellent restaurant, beautiful rooms, on Princess Street and just below the Castle and the Royal Mile. The Pompadour restaurant has the best staff around and fantastic cuisine.
Dinner in the upstairs restaurant
Staff, just unfriendly and the breakfast was awful and not a treat to anyone
We were treated like royalty. The manager who checked us in could not have been nicer. She treated my five year old grandson like he was her most important guest & every time she saw us she made a point of making sure we were being well looked after. The doorman was charming and also could not have done more to be sure we were having a wonderful time. The room was lovely and comfortable, with a spectacular view of the fireworks at the castle each evening. The food and service in the restaurant was very good. The crib provided for our small toddler was perfect with very nice bedding like you would find at home. The extra touches, like scotch, fresh fruit, cakes and whiskey fudge were the crowning touch to an already delightful hotel. We would absolutely return to this gracious and comfortably elegant hotel.
The service in the restaurant at breakfast was a bit slow.
The size of the deluxe rooms- very small. We paid 425 pound for a room!!
restaurant food concierge
small rooms high room rates poor service in bar, lounge and restaurant reception areas
The staff was excellent and the customer service outstanding. The location is perfect - close to everything.
Not much although a good location and if the hotel was well managed and guests made to feel welcome it would be a pleasure to stay there. The man in the business centre was very friendly
The first room offered was terrible - very small and cramped with windows high up the wall, bathroom on another level and very noisy with air conditioning. We changed to a better room after complaining but management didn't really acknowledge the complaint. We could hear air conditioning from another room switching on and off all night. The room wasn't made up despite us putting the sign on at 9.45am and not returning until 4.45pm. Bottled water was supplied on day 1 but not on the second day - when questioned reception said it was only given on day 1 - this makes no sense as guests need water everyday and the room costs the same everyday. The tap fell off the shower and could have broken my wife's toe - response from reception was just to send a repair man
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The galvin brasserie was great with tasty well cooked food and again friendly staff. The hotel is well situated for easy access to Central Edinburgh. The rooms were very clean and decorated to a high standard. Scottish tablet and fresh strawberries on arrival was a lovely welcoming touch. The spa was one if the cleanest I have been in. Overall a very good stay.
staff politeness and helpfulness and kinowledge in dealing with our enquiries (Thomas) Lounge area was spacious and comfortable
breakfast was not included for the price no bath available A lack of staff availablility during busy periods rather dated and drab entrance could do with smartening up with easier access for disabled guests
Location is excellent
Reception personnel were not friendly and not helpful at all. I found the staff were very busy and they did not give the proper care to guests. I will not be back to this hotel.
Liked area Convenient Reception staff excellent Clean rooms Comfortable Clean hotel Afternoon tea very good.
Breakfast staff most inefficient, chaotic and slow. Area for dining most inconvenient which made matters worse. After that experience had breakfast in delightful cafe across the road. Seating area, staff very polite but it took 15 minutes for order of two teas, two coffees. Beds hard ( my taste is for slightly softer)
If you got a room in the fifth floor, ask for another one. The aircondition is extraordinary noisy - we got another room without any discussion and without any noise.
Fifth floor ac noise.
we liked the restaurant. Food and drink were very delicious.
The view from the room was not good because of the lower price room.
The Caledonian is a wonderful hotel, expensive but entirely worth the money for the quality of service and luxuriousness of the room. View of the castle was incredible and extra welcome touches in the room were a nice surprise.
