We liked the hotel's character and also the service from all staff. We thought the hotel was finished to a superb standard. The only thing we thought the bar prices were a wee bit expensive, but we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. |

Perfect location for visiting any of the attractions of central Edinburgh. Generously spaced rooms and facilities, ample hotel parking, attentive staff and the genteel atmosphere of a grand older style hotel. We were part of a wedding party that inevitably created additional demands on the staff for large group tables in the restaurant and bar, all of which were dealt with without fuss. |

Staff were very helpful, the surroundings were just as I remembered them many years ago albeit refurbished, it had a tranquility in some places. Our room was small, cramped even, and the early morning noise from the various delivery vehicles was an irritation. Festival week is a busy week and the hotel could not disguise the sort of 'Butlins' feel (apols to Butlins) when our expectations were very different. Breakfast was a bit of a bun fight, the sort you would have in a regular 3 star establishment. |

friendly and professional staff; great location - central and convenient for transport; very high quality room; very clean room; stylish interior of hotel; breakfast tray presented beautifully; restaurant service immaculate dreadful weak american style coffee for breakfast even when extra strong continental style coffee was requested; the tray charge for breakfast at 9 pounds ontop of the breakfast charge already paid is exorbitant; the restaurant on the ground floor serves beautifully presented food that has little taste; the room we were allocated was adjacent to the cleaners cupboard and the door was banged constantly even when we put a small towel in the opening for them the cleaners removed it and the door continued to be banged - something very small but made it impossible to have an afternoon sleep |

We had a double room which was a reasonable size. The quality of fixtures and fitting in the room was very good, with plenty of wardrobe space, mini-bar and strong-box. The breakfast was excellent - this was the only meal we took at the hotel and the service was very good. Our room did not have air-conditioning, which was unusual as it was in a fairly modern wing. A table-top electric fan was in the room and operating when we checked in. However, the weather was very warm and the fan was too noisy to leave on all night. Subsequently, it was difficult to sleep well. |

Great location and good service from hotel staff new wing rooms are a bit boring. In need of a soft refurbishment, better bed linen and bed would make the rooms more inviting. |

The central location was great. The orignal room that we were given was extremely small, not refurbished and a smoking room even though we booked non-smoking and confirmed this when checkinging. We were quickly moved to another deluxe non-smoking room, which was twice the size and refurbished. Strange how 2 rooms of the same standard can be so different. |
