Building, furnishing style of bedrooms and decor all excellent The hotel overbooked but didn't tell us on check-in and we were given 2 single beds and not 2 queen as we had booked. When I phoned down they said yes it was due to over-booking but they could offer us a king size bed which was not what we wanted but had to take it. As a commercial gesture they sent us some Italian fizzy wine we would never drink and a refund of £40. I found this dishonest and distasteful and very poor pr in such a beautiful hotel

Goods atmosphere, decor & location. Reception staff not well informed or helpful. They didn't even recognise me as a Hilton Honors member. I noted the BA Gold Mebers 'Simply book and stay any time from now until 30 September 2013 and you'll enjoy a free room upgrade', but was simply told no upgrade available, wiht no explaination - I was not treat ed as a valued Honors member, this is why I normally stay at your competitor hotels on business.

Very central, customer friendly staff. Great view from the room overlooking the castle. Ordered a sandwich the bread was still frozen and half had no filling. I wanted to complain to the chef but this was not allowed .

The location and efficiency of the staff and their willingness to help. The room was a little small for what we paid.

The hotel staff were very helpful, the room was very good and walls adequately soundproofed so we were never disturbed by other residents. The food was excellent. The location was excellent for sightseeing. We booked our room under a special deal so was good value. Would thoroughly recommend it.

This hotel is in a historic building, which is great in some ways, but has not been kept up the way a historic property can be. The pool and spa area were very nice and a treat to have in the middle of the city. The hotel is beautiful in the common areas. Cracked paint, dirty carpet are not part of what makes a historic property great.

Location, staff, quiet rooms The ridiculous prices in the Caley bar - if spending 30 quid on two glasses of Merlot when it is than less than half that price anywhere else in Edinburgh is your thing, be my guest.

Good location, nice hotel, clean and good facilities The bedroom was slightly on the small side - I thought it could have been a little bigger.

The staff were extremely helpful and all possess excellent customers service skills. The concierge team are fantastic! The rooms were slightly smaller than I envisaged. The hotel website photos also make the rooms actually look larger than they are.

The Peacock Gallery, the chandeliers, the Cale bar , the service.... Staff were great and the hotel is very comfortable. Atmosphere in the bar relaxed and buzzying. More reasonable cost wise than I anticipated in terms of food and drink.. Our room was small even if perfectly turned out and we faced onto the air conditioning units which rumbled all night. Even for at discount price of £239 - the room was not worth that even if the atmosphere was. We stayed at a refurbished 4 star the night before in Edinburgh for £165 our room was twice the size , food excellent as was the service. We alos have free parking next to the hotel.

close to central shopping and castle. concierge and reception staff Cost, almost double of other hotels on Princess street. We paid £717 for 3nights b&b. Premier inn, just down the road £416 for same duration Room, very small with high windows, one easy chair despite being a double room, not possible to have 2nd easy chair as room was too small. Shower unit constantly dripping into bath, required several attempts to actually turn it off. Noisy air con unit. Service in dining room, no condiments on table,no butter or sugar.Had to search other tables for these as waiters were busy moving tables around us whilst we ate breakfast, !!! Cold plates for buffet breakfast, No wifi unless you pay a further £15 daily, available outside of front door free !!!

All aspects of stay was good for our requirement Lack of car parking, therefore for 2 days parking, £40. Hotel of this standing should have deal with NCP or whoever was used. Was surprised to be told on check-in which was circa 1300hrs, that only times for dinner was 1815hrs or 2115hrs. Fortunately Concierge booked table outside not far from hotel which was excellent.

Very good location The room we were given on the first floor was dusty so asked for a change of room. They moved us to a room that was cleaner, but you could still see dust on the main table. From the description of the room we were supposed to have a Nespresso machine plus pillow menus, but they were not available in neither of the rooms we were given. A lot of people were checking-in when we arrived, so we had to queue for a while. Asked some indications to the concierge for nice places to eat in Leith, they gave us some useful suggestions for getting there, but really missed the point and sent us to a shopping centre instead of a nice place for restaurant / lunch

My husband and I live in Edinburgh. We like to find the time to occasionally treat ourselves to a night away, but because we have young children we like to stay in a local hotel. This has been the most expensive hotel we have stayed at so far as it was a surprise for my husbands birthday. The staff were very friendly. And the bed is the most comfiest I have ever slept in during a night away. We were also on the 5th floor which meant you could not even tell that you were on a busy street. There is plenty of choice of places to eat close to the hotel. The breakfast was wonderful and you had plenty of choice. The spa was a nice place to go after breakfast to relax before checking out. As I am partially sighted I did find the written information in our room very small and hard to read. And considering the price you pay to stay in the room I thought it was a bit over the top for them to charge you £4 for a bottle of water that was in the room.

Well situated, great views of the castle, perfect location for shopping & sightseeing. The hotel itself is very elegant & the room was very spacious & has everything you need for a short break. Only negative comment was that when we checked out we weren't asked if we had enjoyed our stay apart from that we really did enjoy staying at this hotel & would definitely stay here again.
