“After booking the Caledonian hotel I read some quite negative reviews which I think comletely unfounded. I thought the hotel was great. Tremendous value for money, exceptionally clean, a fantastic location, friendly helpfule staff and the worlds best breakfast. I will definitely be back.”

The Caledonian Hotel overlooks Ullapool harbor and the colorful fishing boats on Loch Broom. A quiet and friendly hotel with a welcoming atmosphere and pleasant grounds. Built in the early 1900s, the Caledonian is one of the oldest hotels in Ullapool. All guests have free access to Loch Broom Fitness Center for the duration of their stay (subject to availability). Ullapool is the port for the Outer Hebrides and therefore good roads allow easy access to this spectacular highland location. On the west coast of Scotland, Ullapool is close to the Gulf Stream and the Inverewe Gardens where visitors can enjoy the many tropical and exotic shrubs and trees. Ullapool is the ideal location for exploring the west Highlands including Loch Maree, Lochnivar, Gairloch, and the Corrieshalloch Gorge. The capital of the Highlands, Inverness, is under 2 hours away. Hotel Rooms: 83, Hotel Chain: Oxford Hotels & Inns. Most recent booking for this hotel was today at 15:31 from Germany.

We liked the fact that after hillwalking we could both have baths and there was plenty of hot water. Nice breakfast, inc porridge and also started at 7.30am which is earlier than a lot of places. Handy for all facilities in the village. TV in room was tiny. Decor a bit shabby/old fashioned but not important to us.

the bed was quite comfortable the windows were badly mouldy, bathroom curtans mouldy and only held up by minimal hooks(two either end) shower curtain mouldy, tattered and torn. Maitre D rude, I dont expect to be greeted with "and what time is this" it was actually 28mins past six for six thirty only to be told you are not on the list and were we with the coach group. No we were not. Food just slapped on the plate all the veg as well, the breakfast looked as though it had been cooked at seven thirty, breakfast was served until nine, at eight forty five it was inedible. The only saving grace was that on asking for some white toast it was freshly made and the only thing worth eating.

The photo on booking.com shows an old and charming hotel with a sea view. This is probably the case for some bedrooms but in fact there are big annexes behind with view on the car park of the hotel (with buses !) or on courtyard :it's a real shame ! The dining room is very big without any charm and no view. Don't stay to the restaurant at night. If you book here ask for a sea view bedroom imperatively !

We liked our stay at the hotel as we do go there quite regularly. We like the location and the surrounding area is excellent for going walks and shopping in the town Tha Caledonian is getting a bit tired on the inside but it will not put us off from visiting again soon

The location is good. The hotel is "run down", it was clean but very dated, the breakfast was ok but it had to be eaten from a side plate and this is not large enough for eating breakfast from.

The hotel was clean enough but very dated. The hotel is quite simply "run down", it was clean enough but very dated, the breakfast was ok but it had to be eaten from a side plate which in my view is not large enough for eating ones breakfast from. Location is very good. The room was very basic but warm and overall acceptable for the price.

We were passing through on our way to Lewis. Location was excellent, as was the price we paid. Staff were variable, some friendly, others a bit clueless. Dog friendly which was a bonus to us. Walls in our room were grubby and marked and we had to traverse some very long corridors to get to it. Some areas-carpets etc were worn and tatty while others were upgraded clearly. Maybe it's a work in progress. The hotel was adequate for our needs, clean and fairly comfortable...and dog friendly which was great. Breakfast was a bit chaotic but to be fair was included in the price. I certainly wouldn't want to pay nine pounds for it though.

Caledonian Hotel is conveniently located right in the centre of Ullapool. Room furnishings were dated by comfortable. Buffet breakfast was included, and of an acceptable quality. Felt the hotel did not represent good value, considering some of the other places we stayed in Scotland. We were staying with good friends but our rooms were at opposite ends of the hotel. Terrible shower, took literally 7 minutes for hot water to start running, terrible water pressure and inconsistent temperature. Wifi was broken when we were there.

Our room was cold on arrival. The carpet had clearly not been cleaned as we found 3 2 pence pieces on the floor between the 2 single beds. Strands of hair were fouind on the bottom sheets of one bed. The toilet seat was not secure and was coming away from the wall and floor. The shower was unuseable. The dinner we were served could best be described as Kiddies portions.

The only good thing was actually the breakfast that was alright. I went there for two nights, there was garbage in my room from the last person that was there so I suppose my room wasn't cleaned. I could barelly sleep because the building is so old that I was always hearing the sound of people walking in the other floor.

Bathroom plumbing was very poor. It took at least three tries each time before toilet would flush. Shower would only go very hot and if I ran the cold water tap to cool it, all I got was cold water.

Superb location overlooking the harbour, lots to see This hotel has deteriorated a lot since we first knew it thirty years ago, and whilst we were staying offered no dinner. Very understaffed with one person having to do everything. It might as well have been closed.

The location is in a beautiful highland village with stunning loch views and it is only a few minutes drive to remote wild mountain scenery. It is in need of external maintenance to remove unsightly dilapidations. There was ample hot water but it was impossible to adjust the shower to an acceptable temperature However, the bath was huge and very usable!

Met my needs but felt the place was very cold and old fashioned with a few new things to make it look good. Would not have paid any more for staying there. Breakfast basic.
