Located on the seafront at Thorpe Bay, with views of The Thames Estuary, Camelia Hotel is just one mile from Southend on Sea. It has good food and free parking. The train station is only 5 minutes away and the airport is reachable in less than 15 minutes. London is a 45 minute drive away. The restaurant offers a good variety of fine cuisine with modern English and Continental influences. A full English breakfast is served daily. The bar has an extensive wine list and guests can enjoy their drink on the patio, which has superb sea views. The bedrooms are colorful and have a private bathroom. They all come with tea/coffee making facilities and many of them have sea views. Hotel Rooms: 34

.Available parking. Comfortable enough bed. Cooked breakfast, although scrambled egg a bit rubbery . We stayed in room 28 and found the route from reception to it tortuous. We tried to have an early night, but it was ruined by banging doors and water-hammer in the water pipes at all hours. Had we known what was coming there was no way we would have booked . Our charge for providing this useful information is £30. The reason for the charge is that we are not making ab official complaint; just giving you an opportunity to make amends in more ways than one.

We found the hotel very good value for money. Good size rooms, clean and attractively decorated. Very pleasant and efficient staff. The breakfast was very good land plentiful. The hotel being right on the seafront made it easy to find. Although we only stayed for one night, if we were in that area again we would definately stay in the Camelia Hotel.

Although the room was small,it was clean, warm and comfortable and a reasonable price. There was ample car parking space. The staff were helpfull and friendly in the main. Breakfast was more than adequate in a pleasant dining area. Not all the staff were friendly and customer focused.

The ability to come and go as we liked - especially as we were in the annexe. We had somewhere to meet as a family near to the amusements of Southend and to have a quiet drink with a couple of members of the family.

The hotel was clean, nicely decorated and the staff friendly. Breakfast was excellent, not only was the food good, but I like the availability of a fruit salad plus a mixture of berries–excellent! Unfortunately the bed was damaged in some way meaning we could not sleep well and in fact I spent most of the evening in the chair. The mattress looked clean and not too old, but the springs were clearly gone and with 2 in the bed if you lent to the side you fell out.–In fairness to the hotel they did not know about this and gave us a small discount ( I think a bigger discount should have been made but I had had enough and just wanted to go) and I have to say it was out of character with the rest of the hotel which left a good impression. I would recommend them if they have replaced the bed

- The room was lovely - Stayed for 2 nights and the room was cleaned on the next day so was happy about that - Bit on the small side but had everything we needed - Was in a nice quiet location - Stairs to room were quite steep - Doors seemed to bang with wind, could hear other peoples doors - Could hear upstairs walking around and heard toilet flush early in the morning - (Was in a nice quiet location) but was quite far to walk, my feet are still hurting me and I'm home now ! So if you like walking then great if not make sure to have your car ! - Even though the room was tidied the hot chocolate and milk I drank wasn't replaced - Breakfast was pretty basic

We were very happy with the hotel. We were impressed with the dining room, very airy and spacious and the young waitress was very cheerful and friendly. The breakfasts were excellent although my husband was disappointed that the kippers were unavailable on the mornings of our stay. The bar area was very pleasant. Our room was in the annexe next door and was very comfortable and clean. The location was perfect for us as we were visiting friends in Thorpe Bay. My only criticism would be that the sound proofing of the floor in the room above is poor. Each morning we were awoken about 6.30am by the guests above walking about. We were in room 24.

It was so quaint, the room was beautiful and overlooked the beach, we got to see the sunrise and sunset over the sea. Have already booked this hotel again. Would have liked a restaurant menu and price list available earlier in the day.

We were in town to attend a family funeral and my cousin and her husband were going to be staying at the Camelia (which they have done several time before) suggested that as they were staying - that we do the same. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly when we arrived. Breakfast was lovely. Thank you very much!

The rooms were in really good decor. The food was beautifully cooked, presented & plentiful. The staff were very friendly & helpful. We couldn't understand why we only had 1 hand-towel between 2 of us. We had 2 bath-towels. Also, the person who cleaned the room neglected to leave milk for the coffee on 2 occasions & also didn't take away 2 empty glasses when we had taken a drink back to our room the night before.

very hospitable and attentive to needs of customers; we had problem with hot water in the bath - it was promptly attended to and we were provided an alternate facility for shower. Not suitable for family with more than one child - room size not big enough to accomodate 2 cots; hence should not be proposed to people for this purpose on the booking website

“The friendliness and helpfullness of the staff was excellent. Knowing I was travelling solo, they made my stay as relaxing as possible; even choosing a table in the restaurant where I would feel comfortable on my own. The staff were very attentive. The view from the restaurant was lovely, even on the cold, windy, rainy day that I was there.” Julie, Redlynch, Wiltshire |
