very good breakfast, well located (walking distance to St. Pancras Station)
Great location for little money. I will come back!
The staff on the reception desk in both halls [bed, and separate breakfast, see my complaint] were helpful as far as they could be, pleasant and friendly. It's not their fault there's so much wrong, they have no power to act and the administration of the halls is sclerotic.
Administration and booking is chaotic. I made two bookings for two consecutive nights and asked for them to be combined in advance, by email. This was not done. Nothing COULD be done until the morning of the second day, when 'the girl in the office' was half an hour late to work and then was 'too busy' talking to the janitor guys to attend to my request. I had to check out with my baggage, attend a meeting and check back in in the afternoon for the second night. I still can't believe they were that uncooperative and unhelpful. And having to go out in the street and to the next building for breakfast - between 8 and 9 ONLY - wasn't too much fun either. And the mattresses are thin and overused, and so old, they creak, and the only kettle was at the end of the corridor, and the paint was peeling off the ceiling, and . . . I could go on, but you get the idea, right?
Best budget pace I have ever stayed in. Great location, felt very safe.
Staff, and cleaness
Location close to St Pancras/Kings Cross stations. Hearty breakfast and free wifi included Very competitive price for a single room
Plain glass panel above room door allowed light into the bedroom at night
I was quite surprised by Canterbury Hall, it was the best price I found in London, where everything is so expensive! Even though the bathroom is shared between each two rooms, it was ok! The bathroom was clean and always available, right beside my room. Good localization, easy to walk around to main interesting points of the town, or the tube/metro is also very close, 10 min walk. Excellent breakfast included in the price of the room, 40 pounds a day.
Free wi-fi only in the reception. No internet in the rooms.
brilliant buffet breakfast with vegetarians well catered for (maybe a bit too brilliant - def a few lbs heavier since I got here!).. friendly staff.. basic but perfect room - dead simple to connect to wifi with laptop... plugged in the cabel they gave me and worked instantly .. no setup required & great speed ...location is simply superb.. I know London very well & this is right in the middle of one of the nest spots... water pressure great in shower as well :)
breakfast hours are very restrictive 8-9 on weekdays and 8.30-9.30 on weekends .. window should be much wider! there is a kettle in room - no cutlery or utensils!... & a small fridge would have been great .. but I guess too much for a budget outfit .. also good wardrobe space but no hangers!! some street noise late at night early morning
Price, location, friendly front desk staff, good breakfast.
Poor room cleaning services during stay (failed to replace used towel several times, no hoovering, bed not made up) Poor room and furniture (paint peeling off walls, desk chair missing a wheel, wardrobe lock did not work)
Adored the location, in the heart of Bloomsbury very close to Kings Cross. I could walk to the course I was doing. I also felt very safe. The breakfast was amazing.
Close to Kings Cross station. Basic and convenient.
I don't think anyone ever cleans each week. The bathrooms are awful, filthy, delapidated, broken showers. Noone ever replaces the towels. The floors are never hoovered.
Close to the station
Great value, perfect for research trip to British library. Enormous breakfast.
The room was practical, really quiet, clean and the bed comfortable. No luxury but an excellent budget, no frills stay in my opinion. Excellent location.
I would have felt more comfortable if men and women's floor were segregated as the rooms were enquite but only a minor concern. Not really important,
Cleanliness - bed sheets especially.
I was not given the breakfast coupon when I arrived because the receptionist was a temp.
Inexpensive, close to St Pancras, good sized rooms
Awful cleaning facility. Bathrooms are in a bad state of repair and they are never cleaned during the week. Towels never replaced despite how long you stay.
Price, breakfast, location -close to St Pancras/Kings Cross
The location of the Canterbury Hall/UoL is just excellent, very close to King's Cross railway and tube stations, literally, around the corner. It is also close to the Russell Square tube station and the Brunswick area with plenty of grocery and other shops in and around there. It was nice to live in Bloomsbury, in my case, very close to work. What also was good was having a ready breakfast every morning. You get tired of this room-breakfast routine eventually, but, I guess, it can be nice for a short stay (I stayed at Canterbury Hall for more than a week, which is a bit long for the place, I'm afraid). The plus was to get to share a bathroom and toilet with one other room only. The bathroom/toilet was cleaned every day (unlike the room).
You never know who you end up sharing your toilet and bathroom facilities with (male or female, for example). My neighbour wasn't extremely tidy, leaving many of his toiletries and all his three towels in our shared bathroom. I felt like I was a guest at someone's house, not a comfortable feeling. The rooms are too small, and, yes, the mattress was bad. I stayed there for 10 days and my linen was not changed even once (the towels (well, a towel) were changed every 3rd day).
Staff was nice location
WiFi worked only in the lobby not in rooms
Good value. Excellent breakfast, very courteous staff, ideal location for the specific intended purpose.
Bed very uncomfortable, no cups in the room.
It was very convenient, cheap and felt very safe.
The wifi didn't work and the shower completely needed replacing as it was very old and completely broken.
Free internet Location
Bed a bit worn Bed a bit short Noises from the corridor (doors closing)
Reception, breakfast, clean single room With bathroom verfy Close, location in London.
Do not remember if any..
Value for money - it was great to have a private room for such a reasonable price. The location was also great, right next to Kings Cross and easy walking distance to a lot of museums. The staff at the front desk were really friendly and helpful.
It was a really hot week when I was there, and the windows did not open very far, nor was there a fan, so the room ended up being hotter than outside which was uncomfortable. The internet was also not very reliable.
Breakfast is too late! Bed is not clean!
