Just feet from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free Wi-Fi and free parking, a short walk from the center of the city.

Proximity to the cathedral and town. The staff are extremely helpful and welcoming. The design of the hotel building is beautiful. The gardens are stunning.
Room was a little cramped for two. The bathroom suite was a little tired.
Staff very polite keen and helpful. Breakfast was a pleasure and there was plenty of choice. Location is as central as it gets. You're inside the cathedral grounds! Parking if available is perfect. There are plenty of car parks nearby too.
My basic room had no shower, however I expect the other rooms did. Worth asking about when booking.
I cannot imagine a more pleasant way to visit Canterbury. Terrific location, especially when it's raining. One is close to everything. Thank you for gracious hospitality.
Friendly staff, excellent location
Room overlooked the city and there was a lot of disturbance late into the night from people in the streets. Room was too warm to close the windows so noise was a problem.
A nice hotel, very well situated, wonderful breakfast
A 50 GBP cleaning fee was too much and was not mention during the reservation through booking.com
Excellent location! A charming hotel right on the cathedral grounds which gives the whole stay a unique twist. It's right next to Canterbury high street. The rooms are big with great views of the cathedral with nice comfortable beds. Breakfast is cooked to order and included.
Great location. Lovely room, view of cathedral. Good hearty breakfast. Arrived about 2ish. Able to park very close (in cathedral grounds). Room was ready.Twin beds. Lovely window seat. Wanted a guided tour of cathedral but not available on Sundays. Had an audio guide, but only because the guy felt sorry for us, normally close the guide store by 2pm he said.
Shame they didn't have a restaurant on the Sunday night, but we had a nice meal in town instead. Slight confusion about how to get back into the cathedral grounds late at night (you have to ring the bell for the security guard to let you in - and you need your card to prove you are a paying guest).
Great location, polite and helpful staff, beautifully cooked breakfast, nice toiletries in room.
Fantastic location right in the Cathedral grounds. Free entry to the Cathedral included in the price Quiet, peaceful and exceptionally secure. Step out of the grounds into the central heart of the City. Staff all warm and welcoming. Great breakfast. Unique and Unbeatable.
Bit difficult to find the first time by car but follow the separate instructions they give you and ASK people. When you've done it once you'll wonder why you found it difficult the first time! Guess it was driving down streets which felt fully pedestrianised that was disorientating.
Proximity to cathedral Beautiful garden Lovely breakfast Helpful staff I visited with my elderly mother and the staff were very helpful
An amazing place to stay - right in the grounds of the Cathedral - with free unlimited access to the Cathedral as well. Very attentive and helpful staff. All of Canterbury's restaurants, bars and shops nearby.
The quiet location.
Pillows were a little hard.
Superb location Comfortable rooms Great service Breakfast very good Excellent value for money
What an amazing location, so beautiful to look at the cathedral from the room window at night. The staff were exceptional, especially at breakfast - and what a lovely breakfast.Really convenient to have parking on-site too.
Quite difficult to find how to access the site/parking
The Lodge was clean and well organised. The staff were friendly and helpful in every way. It is so convenient for both the Cathedral and the City, and the excellent standard of the accommodation meant that our stay was relaxed, enjoyable and memorable for all the right reasons!
The location just in front of the Cathedral of Canterbury. The views over the Cathedral and the wonderful atmosphere you can feel inside the Precincts.
It's not well indicated how to get to the accommodation so I had to ask twice. You have to re-login into the wifi about each hour or so.
Everything - most of all the location, literally walking out the front door into one of the most world's most beautiful cathedral precincts. Very friendly, well run, excellent breakfast, perfectly appointed and immaculately clean room and bath. If coming by car and you manage to book on-site parking with the hotel, be sure to read the directions very carefully, as the parking gate is otherwise hard to find.
The location was sensational, right in the cathedral precincts, in the middle of the city. A short distance from both railway stations, the bus station, shopping, restaurants and cafes. It also included free access to the Cathedral. Amazing view of the cathedral outside your window and blackbirds hopping about feeding on the lawn. Despite being a busy and active church, the bells were silent after dark and the church clock only chimed about three times.
The bed was very peculiar. It consisted of two sections joined horizontally which meant that it dipped in the middle which made it very uncomfortable. They had made the bed up with blankets, as requested, but had forgotten to put a top sheet on the bed. A very nice, helpful housemaid came and rectified this and brought extra pillows and with a little ingenuity, pillows under the mattress at the top and the duvet folded over and put under the bottom sheet, we actually made the bed comfortable and had a very good night's sleep.
+ In the heart of Canterbury + Clean + Friendly staff + Free car park if spaces are available. + Free entrance to the Cathedral .Warning: the entrance is located at 36 Burgate (GPS) .Warning: some of the rooms are not in the lodge itself, but in a building adjacent to the main Lodge. Mine had a street view, which was a little noisy in the morning with the deliveries. No lift in this building, rooms located on the second floor.
The view and cathedral access
It was wonderful to be in the precinct and to be able to spend time in the Cathedral before the crowds arrived.
Only downside was that the room was fairly small and the double bed was rather short.
Problem with shower water temperature.
The location and view The staff attitude The ability to walk the grounds
Nothing during our stay was in any way disappointing
