“ Kathy (the Proprietor) was very friendly and very accommodating, the hotel was immaculate the breakfast was very well presented and very filling. Although we had the back bedroom it did not deter the rating of this wonderful hotel. We will definitely be returning to this Hotel in the future. ”

We were made so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We were recommended places to eat and visit and Kathy made sure we got the most out of our stay. An excellent breakfast got us off to a great start each morning. There were no down sides to staying at Captains Lodge.

I booked late, as I had a meeting in Ashington the next day and didn't fancy the local budget chain hotel. The front of Captain's Lodge is literally a stone's throw from the sea, just the other side of a promenade and I enjoyed a cup of tea on the terrace before breakfast in glorious sunshine. The room and bed were v comfortable - the best night's sleep I've had in ages. Room well equipped incl WiFi and breakfast excellent. The owner was welcoming and helpful. Don't be put off by the rear entrance - everything other travellers have said is correct. This is a high-end B&B and very good value for money. Great for an overnight or a few days by the sea and only 20-odd mins from Newcastle City Centre.

Owner very friendly. Lovely house, and great views of Newbiggin bay from my room. What I read on booking.com was 'Single Room with Sea View, Patio,Garden View, tv, Heating, Carpeted Floor, Hairdryer, Bathrobe, Free toiletries, Toilet, Bath or Shower, Electric Kettle, Wake Up Service, Alarm Clock'. What I got was a lovely bedroom but had to walk past 2 other bedrooms to go to the bathroom or loo. The patio turned out to be on the ground floor, and not associated with my room. Not good.
