Great location

Rooms in need of refurbishment. Bar prices shocking.

The location is the best possible in Cardiff - right next to the shops and a very short walk from the station. Each member staff with whom we dealt was pleasant, attentive and effective.

After 2 nights (out of 3), as the weather outside became a touch warmer, we found that the air-conditioning in our room was useless. It blew out warm air even on the very coolest setting and the room became uncomfortable. We were promptly moved to another room for our final night and, even though the air-conditioning worked better there, there was still lots of room for improvement in terms of room temperature. I left the Air-con on the lowest possible setting throughout the night but the room was still not really cool in the morning. I was so glad that the temperature outdoors was only about 16 degrees C - and that this hotel was not in the Tropics!

Although a non smoking room, it stank of smoke. If I had been staying more than one night I would have complained. Left feedback on way out and was told we could have been moved if we had asked.

The reception staff were extremely accommodating when it transpired the twin room I had requested was not available, they arranged for a roll away bed and also upgraded us to a bed and breakfast package.

The booking.com website offers rooms that were not available with the hotel so best to check direct with hotel.

Unfortunately the shower in the room I was given was totally inadiquete....very small shower tray with skimpy curtain around. I think the room was for a disabled person because it had orange pullys everywhere. I asked o be moved but was told the hotel was full....however to be fair I have to add that Ive stayed in the Marriot several times before and been very satisfied...I think this time I was just unlucky.

What I thought were ridiculous charges for wi-fi. Tethered my smart phone to avoid them but quite absurd.

Location was spot on for shopping and the rugby. I have stayed at most of the hotels in Cardiff now! Including the Bay. This would be one of my first choices on future visits.

The trek from the car park, just for something to moan about.

Hotel generally needs a makeover. Room seemed very tired in comparison with other 4* hotels I have stayed in.

The hotel was very well located with the centre of Cardiff on the doorstep. It is very clean and the rooms are light and comfortable with large comfortable beds. The staff were outstanding and gave excellent, friendly service at all times. Breakfast was also excellent.

The only problem we had was "Saturday night in Cardiff" which is right there opposite the hotel - the noise from the discos was terrible and went on until the following morning. We needed to change our room for the second night as a consequence. It is sad as otherwise the location is superb. I feel the Marriott could do more to lobby the Council about the noise factor from these clubs.

We were in an executive room and the service and facilities were all first class. Would definately recommend your hotel to all our friends. ALL staff were friendly, helpful and approachable, well done.

We would have liked some form of cream tea on Sunday afternoon but were told to use the 'Chat Bar' which did not really meet our needs. Apparently they only provide bar food, not really what we were after.

Fantastic staff - so natural and friendly. Please pass our thanks on to them. Really attentive to us without the constant interventions of "is everything alright" which I find irritating in similar hotels!

Just a couple of comment - hopefully contstructive! In no way detracted from my enjoyment of the weekend. Slight smell of mustiness in room 612 - not apparent in my friend's room. Maybe air-conditioning filter, slight leak somewhere? I think that it would be worthwhile checking out! I'd be interested to know if you find anything! Small detail - but several of my friends have also noted the lack of a toilet brush in the bathroom.

Temperature of room at night was very cold. No obvious way to control room temperature and there were no extra blankets ( had to sleep in coats)!!!!
