Everything about this hotel was friendly, warm and relaxing. The building and the rooms had a real charm and it was generally just a lovely place to be. The hotel is really close to Wast Water and Scafell Pike, arguably the best view in the lake district, right near a very lovely beach, and not far from Coniston Water. Alan, the owner, was lovely, he was always around to give tips on visiting the lakes or on places to eat.
Every morning we got home-cooked, locally sourced breakfasts (full English, smoked salmon, cereals, etc.) and the bedroom and bathroom were beautifully furnished, with a very comfortable four poster bed. If the weather is nice and your car is in good condition, try the local Hard knott pass. The drive is pretty twisty but the road takes you through the valleys and over a mountain and the views are breathtaking.
