Although we were a late arrival we received a warm welcome. We stayed I'm the budget room, lift to second floor then staircase to room, for the price we paid, perfectly acceptable. Although the Carlton may need a bit of an update what you find are very helpful staff and all areas of the Hotel very clean. Crisp white bed linen and towels. As for the breakfast, absolutely brilliant, choice of cereal, fruit, fruit juice followed by double egg, double sausage, double bacon, tomatoes & beans plus toast and marmalade to follow with a lovely pot of tea/coffee. If you prefer scrambled or poached eggs, nothing is to much trouble.

Good location. And a full sized kettle and tea pot in the room. This might have been an elegant hotel a few decades ago, now it is just very tired. A very small car park with a dangerous drop (hidden in the dark). Staff use the car park too, so if you need to go for an early departure (eurotunnel or ferry) you must leave plenty of time to get the staff to move their cars to let you out.

Its location right by the sea is great. Early arrival for the car park saves a fair bit on parking charges. The breakfast is not bad at all. Pretty tasty and plenty of it. The rooms are very very tired. The tiniest bathroom ever with controls for the shower outside the cubicle. The bed was diabolical like sleeping on 100 exposed slinky toys. Bring or make your own entertainment, the tv only really showed snowy scenes.

Bed was uncomfortable, tv in the room was over 40 years old, using a analogue arial, with only 4 channels that picked up no picture, was like haveing a portable tv with a plug in arial, no tab was alowed at the bar or alowed to charge drinks or food to room, room wasnt cleaned, was cobwebs and dust everywhere, no extra pillows or bed covers, very drafty, 3 inch gap under the door, badly understaffed, hotel needs bringing into the 21st century, have stayed in better equiped hostles in poorer countrys!!

Make no mistake - this is a 1960's hotel that has seen better days. That said the room, although small, was clean and the bed reasonably comfortable. Breakfast was a pretty tasteless affair and if I were you I would avoid the sausages. The wc in the bathroom had become detached from the floor and was pretty unstable. This is a budget hotel and I guess you get what you pay so take this into account when booking.

Convenient to Dover docks for an overnight stay and reasonably priced. Excellent breakfast served by very friendly, non-uniformed staff. It has the feel of an old hotel and the clientele reflected that. It is certainly not somewhere you would expect to find anyone below pension age. My room offered a television, a small Rediffusion set from the pre- remote control era! And to emphasis its old-fashioned appearance, the light switch looked Edwardian in design and age. Small car park at the rear was full so I had to park in a pay and display and make sure I moved it by 8am to avoid a charge. But the view out to see was very pleasant and it was not a long walk into the town.

Decor a little dated, but not a problem, we were greeted with a friendly smile, that counts for a lot. Within easy walking distance of the shopping area and restaurants. Having stayed many times in Folkestone The Carlton was without a doubt the best value budget we have stayed at, plus the added bonus of free parking, completed the deal. Breakfast was also top.

the staff were helpful and polite, the food was well presented. the rooms were clean and tidy some overlooking the beech. Just the downstairs rooms they have ventilation but you cannot open the windows to let fresh air in, but we did understand why, they had to be kept shut, because of health and safety reasons.

Our stay at the Carlton Hotel was enjoyable, the staff were friendly and helpful, our room was clean and the beds where comfortable and we where very lucky in having a sea view,a lovely choice of breakfast,we would certainly stay at the Charton Hotel again,a good budget hotel and located on the seafront and close to the town, what could be better. I can't think of anything I didn't like about the Charlton Hotel.

Quaint olde worlde 1920s hotel. Friendly staff and cheap beer (£2.60 pint!) Excellent value for the price (£26 in breakfast!!) Very tired and almost museum worthy decor. Long time since I've stayed in a room covered floor to ceiling in magnolia woodchip paper with push on (pink) rubber shower attachment. BUT very clean and safe, heating worked and TV/kettle in room

The two main reasons for me to book at the Carlton Hotel were due to the earlier check in time, (which was an hour before most other hotels), and the affordable price. I had to be at a wedding and needed this earlier time to check in before making my way to the ceremony, my formal suit that I had hired didn't come with the shirt ironed! so I'm rushing around like a headless chicken! The Carlton Hotel smartly dressed gentleman was most kindly helpful by suppling an iron & board to use and provided a personal service helping me with my unknown way to correctly fold the handkerchief. The single room was clean and contained everything I needed, I liked the fact I could park my car on their premises, and the full breakfast was very quickly served and perfectly cooked. The hotel was very good value and a pleasant stay.
