Staff friendly, Price excellent, Location is super.
The room and bedding did not appear clean and I would not want to stay in such a place again.
Location, friendliness, location to town
slow water flow
If you want to be in a 5* location and have 2* prices this is the place to be. Great breakfast, andq the staff/owners were very friendly and helpful.
The power shower!!
the price, the location, able to park a vehicle close by or on the car park at the rear. TV/BAR the drinks were reasonably priced. Loads of sockets in the rooms. Would definetly stay here again, breakfast was good and service excellent, help yourself to as much tea/coffee and toast as you like. Staff were very polite and helpfull, nothing was too much trouble for them..
Pleasant staff, good breakfast,Enough room for our needs, only an overnight stay, but would return.
The reason for having to stay there, but that was not their fault
The receptionist was rude & called me fat. Room was dirty. Wouldn't advise single females to stay there.
This time having a ground floor room still overlooking the car park, thus being quiet.
I was quite badly bitten by bed bugs. The local council needs to go and check this place out.
Very pleased. Basic but very friendly. Will definitely return.
Value. Exceeded expectations.
Breakfast, public areas, location
Room on small side, in need of a make over
the price for a twin was fantastic value and also included a full breakfast...bar prices were also very fairly priced and a good selection
could not complain about anything at this price
First class staff Value for money Closeness to Channel Tunnel
Management and staff were excellent, top marks to Andy the reception manager ie more coffee and milk for room and extra pillows immediately delivered to room. This hotel is under new management and is a work in progress, our room had been refurbished with a new bed, they have refurbished a number of rooms with more to follow we would stay again ,good value for money.
Don't have the beans for breakfast plate swimming in grease and fried egg cold first morning, but I must say that on the second and third morning of our stay with no beans and fresh scambled eggs the breakfast was very good with all the cereal/toast/grape fruit/orange juice/jams/ tea and coffee on offer excellent value for money.
They put us in the attic, my wife did not like it at all but in the end it was 'better' than the other room they let us to have a look at with the mouldy walls. They have some folks smoking in the porch and downstairs you experience the smokey odour. The rooms are depressing, this was a grand hotel many years ago but now just a name is left. Even a kiwi backpacker in Auckland is nicer than this place.
poor lighting in bed and bathroom electric kettle lead too short to reach socket
We were given a choice of two rooms, one on the ground floor and one on the 1st. Both were dump, very tired looking with very old furniture. Dump and mould was on the windows and walls, and the smell was awful.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is undertaking a revamp and much effort was being made to maintain the best of the characteristics of the original hotel. Car parking was available and free however it does need a lot of money spending on it to satisfy all customers. It will be very interesting to revisit the hotel and see how it develops!
At breakfast on the second morning you could hear obscene language being used in the kitchen!
Bread should be thick sliced for toasting. If the hotel had the same chef cooking breakfast in the week as at the weekend, there would be massive improvement. Tea cannot be made without boiling water.
Everything except breakfast. It's a Victorian hotel which stood empty for years. The new owners have started the refurbishment but it will take time. Eventually it will be stunning but it's not the Ritz yet. Be tolerant because in a few years time it will probably be out of our price range. Don't stay there yet if you are more accustomed to 3,4 star hotels. Absolutely amazing value for money. My husband and I would happily have stayed longer and we will definitely go back there to stay.
Stained table linen in the breakfast dinning room. Service was poor but only because there was only one person serving all the tables and so he was unable to please us all. Cobwebs in top corners of our bedroom window behind the curtains.
I have stayed here more than once. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Wonderful location. Great breakfast. Good work with the renovations. Its a beautiful hotel and being sympathetically restored.
Muddy carpark but once building work has finished that will stop.
Cold room, shower moulding, bed not comfortable
