The only thing that was helpful for me was that it was walking distance to the town centre. It was shabby, run down, to describe it as a hotel is totally unacceptable. In reality it is a budget 1 star B&B. My priority whilst having a shower was to not touch the sides.

The breakfast was good, the service was friendly. It was very basic, most rooms are shared bathroom however this is not stated on booking.com. Extra tenner for a room with a cupboard bathroom with tacky blue lighting. The room was very small and the tv didn't work. However friendly staff came and fixed it. The halls on the way to the rooms were cluttered and the storerooms were overflowing with rubbish on the floor. Did not make a good impression, would probably book elsewhere next time.

It was a good location for us. Cost reasonable The hotel is "tired" badly in need of work to smarten it up. My major problem was avery narrow passage leading to the car park in which I got stuck and grazed my offside front wing getting out. It really is too narrow for the larger family car.

The man at the desk was friendly and courteous. Very cold. There was an ancient radiator that didn't give any heat. Generally tatty, in need of updating. The bed wasn't comfortable with thin bed covers. Though the rate wasn't high, it still offered very poor value for money compared to other places I've stayed in in the Ipswich area.

The Carlton Hotel is centrally located in Ipswich. The staff are extremely pleasant and welcoming. The rooms are small and basis. Although 'Tea and Coffee' making facilities are advertised, there were only tea bags. No coffee! Neither was there any soap in the room. On the positive side, the cooked English breakfast was exceptional. Better than many 5 star hotels. All, in all, The Carlton Hotel represents good value for money. The negatives, such as the missing coffee and soap would only cost the management pennies to provide and these can mean so much to the guests. No coffee or soap in the room.

Its location to the town centre The cleanliness of the room. Net curtains were very dirty and the carpet needed hoovering. The lampshades were dirty. All in all the room needed a good spring clean and general updating. The lighting in the bathroom was very poor and the light above the mirror kept cutting out.

The staff were lovely and made you feel very welcome. Have to mention the breakfast, it was excellent and served promptly with a smile. The matress on the bed has seen better days, the walls of the room were paper-thin, there was no privacy in the bathroom either as the window lacked a blind, the toilet seat was broken, and the extractor fan didn't work.

The food was reasonable but could easily be improved. The room was dirty and smelled of cigarette smoke. The bathroom had been cleaned with a dirty mop leaving a strong stale odour in the room. Clearly no time has been put into training or checking work standards of the cleaners. The decor was tired and dirty and in need of refreshment. On the whole this was a dreadful place to stay.

The breakfast was very good, i think to be fair the hotel is in need of a refurb program as all the rooms and facilities were antiquated.
