Reception staff very helpful with our enquires about an item that had been left behind. Poor selection of coffee, tea and biscuits. Also, toiletries in bathroom not very exciting!

Excellent location The hotel has been outstanding in its day and the reception and lounge are still pretty nice but the rooms and spa area are very tired and dated and in desperate need of a refurbishment.

location and spa/leisure facilities. first room was of a poor standard and after voicing this at reception we were upgraded. I do not think either room was deserving of a 4 star rating. the car parking facility was expensive and not very convenient

The large bright and open reception area was welcoming as well as the lovely staff members. Nice big beds and spotlessly clean. I love the fact that checkout was not till 11am which we made the most of. The location was fantastic for eating out, shopping and sightseeing. I'm not sure what the difference is between 4 and 5 star but if it were based on interiors and staff in my books it's a hotel definitely worthy of a 5 star stamp!! I didn't like the fact that we were only there for one night! :-)

Staff were very friendly, rooms were small but clean and ample for a weekend stay. Breakfast was very nice too. Location was ideal for all aspects of visiting Edinburgh. We went to the hotel to have a relaxing time at spa etc and were in room 417 unfortunately it was anything but restful and did not get a wink of sleep when the club revellers had exited clubs and hung about street corner for what seemed like hours. Finally at 4am we either dosed off due to exhaustion or the revellers had departed.I Complained to the concierge re putting guests in the rooms facing main street as the windows are not double glazed to keep out noise!! I won't be back unless Im the reveller!!!!

It's location is handy for shopping, sight seeing and night life. I upgraded to a premier room but the bed was two single matresses pushed together and we didn't get the bath robes and slippers as advertised.

I liked the welcome and professionalism of the Reception staff. I liked the location which is perfect. The spa was lovely and a great way to relax after a day of sightseeing. The weather was freezing and some parts of the hotel were cold but there was a quaintness about it as it was in keeping with the age of the hotel. We had vouchers for breakfast which made it good value but the staff seemed over-run - some of the hot food was cool and our hot drinks were lukewarm. Not terribly important but we ate out after this.

North Bridge Street is quite noisy at night , so if that bothers you ,make sure you get a room facing the other side The car park they are using now is a fair walk uphill ..prefered the location of the old car park

The entrance to the hotel and bar area gives a good first impression of luxury to any guests but the best feature of the hotel is without doubt the staff ...........very friendly and helpful, a credit to the hotel. The leisure facilities were sub-standard.

The room we had (room 306) was a little old and outdated - but had an ok bathroom and bed was comfortable - it was at least not on the street and therefore quiet for a city hotel (which was lovely) Room old and needed updating with old furniture

Staff were very polite and efficient. Service was excellent in the lounge/bar area. Room 236 was cramped, dirty and in need of re- decoration following what looked like water damage from the room above. Not what I expected from a 4 star hotel in the centre of Edinburgh.
