Overlooking a lake and parkland, Stanton House Hotel is an idyllic stone house that nestles amid the picturesque Wiltshire countryside. There are two restaurants and all rooms are en suite.
Score from 339 reviews Very good
Bang smack in the centre of the famous wide high street and a great spot from which to tour the historical sites of Wiltshire or just to enjoy Marlborough.
Breakfast. The staff are even more disenchanted with their toaster than us! Otherwise, eggs dry and over cooked. Not impressed. Our 5th visit and brekkie used to be great. Hope it will be again.
Loved the room, had all we needed for overnight Lovely evening meal, great service with it Slept like a log Very full English with staff who were lovely All the staff did their jobs well, all really helpful
Stairs were uneven and there wasn't a lift.
The people, Laura and staff plus Sergei
Detached room OK but not our preference. Also no view. View of High Street would have been very nice
We were on the top floor and there were lots of steep steps up to it - the top flight of steps were slanted because the building was so old and there was a heavy door which opened towards you and this was extremely hard to stay straight on the steps and open the door inwards and manage suitcases all at the same time. My mother is in her late 70's and was struggling. I don't know how health and safety regulations would have passed the top floor for accommodation. We will be in Marlborough regularly now as we have family who live there but will never stay in Castle and Ball again.
The staff and informality. The food was good value.
We asked for a first floor room and one at the rear of the hotel. We were allocated a room on the second floor and at the front of the hotel! When we complained no other rooms were available. I found with no lift, the stairs were a problem.
Fine ales, cosy, great to park on site as well
Had to ask more than once for tomatoe sauce, im a grown man who wants more than a thimble full on my mixed grill, had to ask again at breakfast, waiting while my meal goes cold. These should be on the table already
authentic look and well kept, very big and nice room
wifi use requires extra time for settings
Being able to walk to the reception we were attending. Helpful and friendly staff.
The bedroom, although very clean and comfortable, could do with an update, and lack of shower cap in the bathroom.
position. Helpful staff
only liquid soap and no tissues and no shower cap
The location in the high street was so convenient. Staff were very friendly and helpful made stay a pleasure Food of good standard.
Steep stairs up to second floor bedroom
Everything was just lovely, the breakfast is small but everything else was brilliant!
Location of hotel & atmosphere Room was very comfortable
Warm, welcoming atmosphere. Friendliness of staff. Layout and decor of the interior. Cleanliness. Lovely comfortable room with super view of the High Street. Excellent shower. Value for money. Spacious car park. Free parking.
The bed was a little on the small side.
Staff, comfort, convenience as always.
Reduction of menu options: no special deals on Sundays, choice now heavy on burgers and standard stuff. This is a shame, as the food was one of our reasons for booking.
My wife and I stayed one night for a family reunion. We received a warm welcome at Reception and our room although not in the main building was just yards away from Reception on ground floor. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. We had booked a table in the Restaurant and this was was a good choice. The food was excellent and the restaurant staff very attentive. We we very impressed with our stay and intend coming back in the new year for another weekend break.
Location Large room with space
Poor lighting in room Breakfast set-up : minimalist
I love the fact, its right on the high street of Marlborough Village and 5min away from the Marlborough College. It has a posh looking pub feel to it..Sunday, for luch, everyone was quing to get a seat. My son loved the chicken burger, my favorite was the sweet patato chips. In the room, plenty of tea, coffee, hot choc, milk pots, which was very handy to have. Nice shower gel, cream too..
My room was tiny, bed wasnt comfy, turned and tossed all night long.. by the sink, there was the long black hair wrapped up around the tap..same with the shower there were hair bits all over the shower wall.. The bed was nice and clean
Staff were polite & efficient. Food in restaurant was beautiful. All our additional requests were carried out.
Great location and friendly staff
Looking a bit tired
Lovely room in separate annex, v comfy
Fantastic shower. Lovely big room. Very good reception staff.
Breakfast order got lost, so had to wait ages
Comfortable room, good breakfast, friendly staff.
Our room was on the second floor. We had to go through a fire door which was at a very odd angle over a stair well. \not nice.
Comfortable bed, Super Hot Shower, Plenty of Hot drinks available in the room.
