I liked how I was shown to my room by a very friendly employee. The previous year I had stayed at Castle Bromwich in the Brew House and had to locate my room in the dark. Also at that time the staff were not too helpful. This year was completely the opposite. Management obviously reads the reviews and is striving to improve their customer service. I love the rooms and the bathrooms are gorgeous. I like the convenience of the hotel being situated close to the airport. Made getting that early AM flight a lot easier.
Unfortunately being close to the airport, there is the noise factor of the planes. My family travelling with me were not used to hearing planes and that was the one thing they complained about. I live close to a major airport in Toronto, Ontario. The noise of planes flying overhead didn't bother me in the least as I hear it all the time at home.
Beautiful historic building, comfortable lounge, clean room and lovely bathroom; friendly staff.
No hot water from hand basic tap, the radiator wasn't working and the mattress wasn't as comfortable as I expected. Despite reporting the problem with the hot water and the radiator, it wasn't attended to and I had no feedback from the staff.
The grounds were beautiful
The reception was not very good at giving clear directions to room.
Loved the look and feel of the place.
On a Thursday there was a wedding and the walls are very thin. No warning an when I mentioned in the morning the receptionist said oh u should have come down we could have moved you. A shame I wasn't in a room away from the wedding to start with, initiative people!
You try not to be the bloke that moans but sometimes you just have to. The small lights didn't work in Room 316 so it was either no light ir the main light. The corner was chipped off the wall exposing the metal bead beneath. The tiles in the bathroom moved underfoot and the grout had long since disappeared. There was cracking, some of it quote severe, on the bathroom ceiling and a crack in the shower I could get my little finger in. It's downright laziness to leave it in that state...and why didn't I complain? You know when you do so much travelling and can't be bothered with the hassle? That. A real shame because the building is beautiful. My suggestion would be to go and have a walk round outside then go back to the alternative hotel you booked.
HGV reversing into yard outside bedroom at 06:00 then followed by loud crashing noises of glass bottles being tipped into it. WI FI very poor, kept dropping out. Dining area crammed in due to refurb works, no tables for bar snack, had to eat off lap.
quite location yet so close to city centre, great staff, rooms are amazing, clean, tidy, smart, well presented. Fantastic value for money! The grounds are lovely. Stayed 3 times now and will be going back again.
Great hotel in an almost hidden location
It's a lovely property.
Needs updating and modernising. Room had tiny radiator which was cold and a very small television a long way from the bed.
Rooms were recently refurbished. Location - near family and shops
No lift Gardens need maintaining. The rear of the hotel was very poorly maintained. WiFi signal was average.
Warm welcome from professional but friendly Staff. Excellent restaurant.
Location was perfect. I had come to Birmingham to attend a wedding. This was less than 5 miles from the reception
Unfortunately I was housed in some adjoining buildings which were a little akward to access.
very comfy rooms & lounges, helpful & friendly staff nothing too much trouble fresh & well presented food even though the hotel had the builders in it in no way interfered with our stay.
the gardens could be made a little more special&interesting
nothing was too much trouble for the staff the grounds are lovely the food was very good
Staff and food were excellent
Shower door was broken Wifi was poor
Fabulous building, gardens around building beautiful. I asked for a double to be a twin, and was given two adjorning rooms, which was perfect for us and beyond what I expected.
I think the whole building was renovated three years ago, so now the rooms we had could do with some work having obviously been well used. Carpet stained and furniture quite marked. Lots of dust around. The shower tiles in the wet room style bathroom, had lost their colour and some mould around top of ceiling. The hotel It has the feel of slightly wedding tacky granduer about it, lots of dusty silk flowers, when just a few fresh ones would have been better. This house was clearly very beautiful in its time, so incredible mouldings and panel lined walls and then an untidy mock victorian 'reception' desk with a battered filing cabinet behind it. Staff could almost be bothered to help, but not quite, as we were generally waved in the direction of the staircase to the room, were seen to be going the wrong way and left to it.
Well appointed rooms and comfortable and clean on arrival. Unable to comment on bar, food etc as only used as an overnight stay to save an early travel the next morning.
Poor night's rest as we travelled down to Birmingham the night before to save an early journey the next morning. All we used was the room for a night's stopover and didn't sample the food offerings available or the breakfast. The room wasn't badly appointed but a wedding on the day and into the evening meant constant movement in the Brewery area we slept in. Much disruption and no interest by the Receptionist the next day on whether the stay was good or bad, just paid and left. Wish now I had complained.
Sloppy service average pub standard food in lounge.
Location was good for me. The building and grounds were lovely.
My stay wasn't especially unpleasant but the overall experience was disappointingly amateur. This may be down to expectations from the cost and the setting but this was no different to staying in a cheap hotel. The food smacked of Brakes and Bisto and, whilst presented okay, was served in an amateur fashion as if all of the staff had been newly trained. The shower didn't work due to no water pressure (a repeating problem looking at the reviews) and so I had to strip wash in the sink. The hotel seems focused entirely on weekend weddings with cheap tat littered everywhere.
On the first night we stayed in the annexe. The gardens were extremely unkept the room was dirty. There was dry rot on the wall. Upon approach we were greeted with rubbish dumped at the bottom of the drive! The main hotel was dirty. The only room well presented was the bar\ lounge area. I have stayed in a castles before but never one with cobwebs and damp issues. I am not being fussy I simply think that standards were unacceptable. I have taken pictures which I doubt will be published. If you wish to stay in an authentic castle do not stay at Castle Bromwich Birmingham!!
What is not to like room was lovely , we had Sunday lunch which was srummy and a bar meal on the evening followed by breakfast all our food was really good. All the staff were polite and helpful beautiful grounds and buildings . Only wish our room would have been in the main hall but it was still a beautiful room . Would love to stay again.
The only thing which was no fault of the hotel was some fly tipping just a little bit further down the road which doesn't look great on first approach but is in no way detrimental to the hotel stay at all
The hotel was generally of excellent appearance and cleanliness.
The hotel is situated close to Birmingham airport which we did not realise or were advised on at the time of booking. The noise from the aircraft did disrupt our sleep. Also the bedrooms on offer were in an annexe building, which although ok, did spoil our visit as this was not too clear upon booking.
ROOM THIS TIME WAS VERY NOISY FROM BOXED WATER PIPES AND ADJOINING OCCUPANTS.
I stayed here as my friend was getting married,,was beautiful loved the gardens will stay there again
