Castle Hotel

It was very friendly,the cook for breakfast was lovely,nothing was too much trouble and food tasted good...the bus stop to town just outside the door.

I was meant to stay in a different hotel and was re-booked to this hotel because the other one was full. I was invited to a wedding and ended up spending double the money in cab fares than I originally had to (£60 instead of £30) because Booking.com had booked me further away than necessary. Also, the room was not ready when we got there - yes we were a bit early but booking.coms itinary said 12 for check in and they told us 1. Thankfully, they made the room ready for 12. On top of all things they tried to charge my card on the night of the stay without me knowing or having agreed to it and then only told me the next morning. I have never ever experienced somewhere where they simply charge your card without telling you or for you to agree to it in the first instance. The room was as clean as it gets when you have such old facilities but really more like a fancy youth hostel and completely overrated with its 60 pounds per night.

Clean and comfortable, staff friendly and obliging, food good. We enjoyed our overnight stay and will break our journies up to Scotland with a stay there again.

The breakfast and the lady that served breakfast were lovely.

First impressions were ok, but once you scratched the service the place looked tired, lacked finishing touches. Corridor floorboards a tad wonky, tv in wrong position to watch it sat on bed. Mattress passed its best and sagged in middle.

Friendly staff, who went above and beyond to make the stay fab. good service and great food.

The staff are the hotel's biggest asset - 14 of us stayed overnight and had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and the service was brilliant - they made every effort to ensure we enjoyed ourselves - the food was as good as home cooked, the greeting at reception when we arrived was friendly, helpful and welcoming. During our evening meal we had a room to ourselves and a member of staff who gave us her attention 100% of the time

The food was very questionable ...Sunday lunch ok but overpriced......breakfast was atrocious served by a lad that had no idea what he was doing ..fried egg was black and I edible. And my poached had been done in neat vinegar ..spoilt the trip

Extremely creaky floors - every move you made reverberated throughout the building. Combine with thin walls and you have a recipe for not sleeping much, hence the low score on "comfort".

The staff were very friendly & helpful. The food in the pub downstairs was very good. The price was good & the room clean. There is beautiful countryside in the area.

The bed was very uncomfortable, lumpy, hard. It was a little removed from what we wanted to do, but that was due to our booking. There is little to do in the town that we saw & few restaurants from which to chose.
