Located in Devizes’ town centre, The Bear is within 200 metres of shops and restaurants. Locally sourced produce is served in both the relaxed Bear Grills Bistro.
Score from 149 reviews Very good
Breakfast and very comfortable adequate rooms in good location
No access to rooms until 2.30 which was difficult for us as needed to change for a wedding . One room was available so we were allowed to use it at 1pm but shame staff couldn't have helped us with that
Good location for the town; pleasant staff
Room and bathroom a little basic/tired
Very friendly and helpful staff, good meals.
Room felt a title cold and the bathroom light was dim.
Very young and friendly staff. Good food, both evening meal and breakfast. Towel good size. Shower good pressure and plenty of hot water.
Only bathroom a little cramped but it it a lovely old building.
All of it.
Having to leave.
Great place to stay and good food with log fires and comfy chairs for the evening.
Only 2 real ales to choose from. Cold unless near the fire. Wi fi could not reach our room.
Very friendly helpful staff. Good facilities eg. Tv, good shower, attractive decor in room, good evening meals, cosy feel to hotel. Very close to town centre.
Outside traffic noise but just asked for a room on other side of building for next stay so all fine
Very friendly and efficient staff, happy to help with our problem with the heating. Very good dinner (and excellent special rate for guests) and tasty breakfast. Good to stay somewhere that isn't a designer "clone"!
A bit noisy, but to be expected in an old building in a town centre. Problem with the central heating in our room on a very cold night, but staff very helpful and provided an extra heater very quickly.
Heating did not work in the bathroom. Room smelt damp.
I found the bed very comfortable. The staff were, without exception, extremely helpful and pleasant and tried to sort our problems out as soon as poss. Also arranged for us to have our breakfast baps ready to take with us as we left v early in the morning.
Disappointed when we arrived. The toilet did not flush properly and the room was cold. However loo was fixed soon and an extra heater provided. Had requested a walk in shower if poss but seems that hotel had not been advised and instead had a bath with instant electric shower. Since heating was not great and bathroom was large was not tempted to linger in shower! Overall lighting in bedroom not great especially for reading if you are older. No lift, so being on the 2 floor was not easy to carry our luggage up.
The downstairs of the hotel was really nicely done and the breakfast was excellent.
Our room was a bit tired looking and very dark.
Mostly was good nice breakfast and clean rooms
Room was cold even with the heating on as it's an old building I don't think they are allowed to double glaze
Friendliness of staff Good quality food Nice range of ales Warming log fires
The hotel was very good and we had a lovely over night stay with a grate breakfast
The bar was inviting Good central location Comfy bed
The fact we had to wait for 15 minutes when we were trying to check in. There was a party in the hotel and everyone was scurrying around getting things ready. We had to eat at a time to suit the party guests so we did but even so our meals were cold - see above re party and staff running round like headless chickens Gloomy room Noise from (I'm assuming) guests from party who were staying over who need to learn how to control their children!
Friendliness of staff
Good breakfast. Breakfast staff very good but over worked. Easy town access.
Very noisy from continuous traffic. Noisy plumbing in bathroom. Bathroom extractor fan not working. Astonished that Hotel bar had NO snacks of any kind!!! Were told had no deliveries for some time?.... Change supplier! or walk across road and buy some!!
The hotel was very welcome after a long drive from London. The staff were excellent and could not have been more helpful. Breakfast was very welcome. The church clock chiming was interesting but not off putting
The TVs was impossible to operate but we were not there to watch tv
Having stayed at both the pricey bear and the black swan in the market place, the castle is easily the best value for money. Large rooms. Traditional décor. Comfortable and cosy with log fire. Breakfast was very good with good choice.
People who leave poor reviews of hotel's like this. If they have a taste for the bland they should stick to the sterile culturally devoid world of the premier inn.
convenient loction in the town, nice room and breakfast was good , people friendly
the church clock ringing on the half hour all night!..
Friendly and obliging staff Nothing was too much trouble fro them
The staff were all friendly and extremely helpful, restaurant was good and food was at a high standard and good value for money. Our room was very clean and comfortable and also quiet so sleep was undisturbed.
No faults whatsoever .
Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. Great breakfast choice. Very near the town centre. Beautiful canal walks
Very low Wi-Fi signal - possibly due to distance of our room from location or router?
The staff are friendly and helpful
I've stayed twice - first time in a hot single room with windows that wouldn't open , second time in a double room with two fans on when I arrived on a late September day , and they were needed to be able to sleep. Pillows not comfy , lots of new purple décor. Toilet didn't flush properly. A nice notice in the room advertised a free drink if one ate in the restaurant, but when I did (very ordinary pub food) they wouldn't take any portion of a glass of wine off the bill without argument as I'd ordered a large glass. Breakfast promised pancakes with maple syrup, pancakes arrived but they were out of maple syrup. Kindly brought lemon and sugar instead - a tiny slice of lemon like you'd put in a drink. It just all feels very amateurish which would be OK but not at £85 for a room.
Very comfortable and clean, friendly staff
Too much traffic passing, set on major road
