Surrounded by beautiful South Downs hills, the pretty gardens of this converted Tudor house are secluded by tall trees.

Score from 2385 reviews Good
Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room on the top floor (quiet even though at the front of the Inn), and good food in the bar/restaurant in the evening. Situated less than a mile from the Downs Link which gave access to South Downs Way, Shoreham, and back home to North Downs Way (by bicycle),
Nothing really, cooked breakfast was excellent but my wife had she been with me would have liked some fruit and rolls/croissants as an alternative. Decor of public areas is a little dated but this did not stop my enjoyment of the place and my bedroom was well decorated and modern.
Beautiful building, very traditional experience.
noisy at night
Food almost inedible. No hot water.
Dinner time a bit early finishing
Had a good meal in the pub and an excellent breakfast
Hearing the man next door snore all night!
Comfy room, great pub, good food
Wifi a bit intermittent
It was a very pretty Village. Good position for access to main roads. All staff very friendly and helpfull in our 3 day Stay. Will definetly return.
Appalling bathroom, Tv did not work, paint work in room very poor, general feeling of tiredness in state of repair of Hotel.
The "dog friendly" room was excellent. The breakfast and evening meal was very good. Our dog Poppy was made to feel at home.. The hotel is very pretty and is situated in a beautiful little village.
A beautiful village in a beautiful part of England, all the more beautiful when you get just a bit off the beaten track, with some unexpected and off-the-tourist-track history (ruins of a Norman castle, not a ticket office in sight - local people walk their dogs there - as it all once was!). A real pub providing for travellers and diners but still a place where local people drink - and even play pool and darts. What an English pub should be.
old building in the middle of a lovely village central for site seeing
the building being old and we were on a middle floor the floor creaked all night as the people walked about most of the night above us not sure the landlord could do much about this. Shower floor very slippery.
This was real a county hotel it was so quaint went ever we went to our room we thought we were drunk the floors were so up and down.. Great staff and great food.
Quiet, pretty, location. Friendly owner and staff.
Evening meal wasn't up to the standard expected. Breakfast finished too early [9am].
Friendly staff Relaxed atmosphere Good location for walking Lovely garden, and wonderful display of flowers at the front of the building Breakfast service was good, enjoyed the food. Large selection of T.V channels
Very slow service Sunday lunchtime, main course not up to expectations, but starter was good. No fresh fruit available at breakfast. Poor selection of tea and coffee in rooms and no biscuits
Lovely presentation. Beautiful building in British style.
The staff are extremely helpful. Especially the Blonde Girl behind the bar. She was very helpful every time we spoke. The whole team are very welcoming. Breakfast was first class, they only use locally produced food. May I recommend the Sausages, they are outstanding :)
The bar drinks were a little high. Expected for a bar tho. Having to leave :(
The bathroom light was work from a sensor. Open the sliding door and on comes spotlights. These took at least an hour to go off. If you get up in the night to use the bathroom facilities then the lights completely wake you up and due to the gap in the sliding door and the time it takes for them to go off they light up the room for the next hour. Not good if like me you need darkness to sleep. They also wake up your partner.a
Staff friendly and helpful. Great food for a reasonable cost and great to have a choice of breakfasts included.
A little tired in decor with beds being a little soft, but has its own charm,
The rooms were very comfortable and the food, especially the breakfasts, were delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Great food. Good value rooms. Lovely setting
Room was a bit tired
The staff were excellent
The food was poor
the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and we had an excellent breakfast.
The location of the "lodge" is just 2 steps from the pub garden. Also my partners pasta sauce was so sweet she had to send it back when we had our evening meal. We were told it should have been described as a sweet pasta sauce on the menu!.It was replaced by sorbet!.
Very good food, staff friendly, nice quiet location for peaceful getaway.
The room we were in opened up towards the beer garden only a path's width away, which gave no privacy when in room, could of done with net curtains.
I found the room rather expensive for the facilities provided, but perhaps this is normal for southern England. No hairdryer in the room.
