Location excellent, excellent breakfast and room -thanks for a great stay !
Nothing but there are stairs.
Quiet & breakfast
Flights of stairs
Very comfortable and special experience.
Doesn't have a lift because this building was protected by government.
Endless stairs and noise in the night from outside/inside.. It can be an old building but it doesn't mean that you can not renew the windows, you have to have double glass windows as wind and noise comes in the whole night.. The street in front gets dangerous in the night, heard a lot of fighting/chasing/screaming kind of noises.. Overall felt unsecure with my 2 kids..
The size of the room. Location. Good breakfast (not often you would find cheese on the menu). Friendly and efficient staff.
Stairs, but nothing can be done in a historical building like this.
Guest house just around the corner from Princes Street with some galleries within a short walk, super breakfast, friendly service
The location was perfect. We were able to access everything easily. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful.
But, oh there were a lot of steps. Fortunately we were on the first floor so only had to walk up one set. The plumbing was rather noisy as well, but we got used to that after a time.
Breakfast room and staff were friendly. Amazing location with views of the castle and so close to everything. Excellent wifi. Modest accommodation. Neat and clean and can't complain about the location.
Lots of stairs (but staff helped with my heavy bags).
Friendly staff and spacious room. Room was clean and comfortable.
No car parking facility
Great location, good food, comfortable beds and very friendly staff.
Small tv, old (dirty not antique) looking furniture. Staff never responded to lights burning out.
Location and the staff. Both were excellent and the breakfast was great. Nicely served and hot. Great variety too.
The stairs!! However, the exercise does you good..........
Great location. Nice breakfast. Superb support from the staff. Next time we are in Edinburg we plan to stay again.
Had to get used to the plumbing. But once we got past the noise, our stay was enjoyable.
location great , room was very clean and a great view of the castle 7th floor near pubs and shops plus can walk to castle Breakfast good
no lift so bags up 7 flights of stairs. No doubt the plan from the original owner but if older and steps not good for it will be a struggle
The building and its provenance. The situation. Perfect. Quiet but right in close to the action. Views of castle brilliant. Loved it!
No complaints at all!
Beautiful rooms, great vending machine for juice!
Check out was too early, 10:30! It would be good if breakfast lasted later aswell.
Location and accessibility of restaurants
Stairs, lots of stairs
Very large family room. 3 double beds.Location is optimal.Right in the center of town, all is walkable.Great English breakfast.Try all!!Restaurants around the corner, and whiskey bars. Lots of life music around.
As it was in the Fringe and Tattoo weeks the price was rediculous. It's not a Mariott bed and pillows as we americans are used to.No double windows, so a little noisy at night. Not able to get into any Pub as we had our 16 year and 19 old daughters with us.You need to carry your passport at all times .
Excellent location,Very friendly & helpful staff, clean & comfortable room, excellent breakfast with wide choice of food in a airy dining room which is on the 3rd floor. No problem in recomending this guest house if you can handle the stairs.
Our rooms being on the 3rd & 4th floors, the stairs give us a good workout.
Close to pubs, shops, castle etc Friendly helpful staf
No lift, and lots of stairs to carry luggage. More flights of stairs to reach the breakfast room. Our bed wasn't really comfortable, was narrow and bedding was not generous. The plumbing made a terrible noise!
Location -- near interesting sites and shops.
Too many stairs to climb for seniors and breakfast room was on top floor. No elevator.
The hotel is in a great location.
The location also has it's downfall. We stayed here during the Fringe festival not knowing that meant lots of festival goers loudly coming and going ALL HOURS of the night. It was very disruptive. Also it was extremely expensive for the type of open loft room provided. I did not think it was a very good value.
Magic, one of the managers, was extremely friendly and accommodating. He made the stay pleasurable. The beds were comfortable and the shower was excellent. Easy access to taxis and short walks to various venues of the Arts festivals. Excellent restaurants of good variety nearby.
Very poor value for the money during August--extremely expensive with no view (or only a view of a dumpster). Constant noise of bottles being dumped into a recycling bin at all hours. We were told that to get a castle view we needed to book 6 months in advance. Who does that? While the breakfast room on the third floor does have a view of the castle, only one of the tables is situated so you can see it and access to that table was super limited. We never got to sit there over the course of a whole week.
Down side was the 95 (yes I counted) stairs one had to climb to get to our room. Fine if you are a non smoker and fit! However a good cardio vascular workout nevertheless :-D Would definatley stay there again.
Fantastic location, good size room
Be prepared for quite a few stairs, but staff very good at helping carry luggage
