Clean towels and bedding.
Carpets through out....decor in dining room.....room freezing cold on arrival
It was nicely located for my purposes but getting dark so early because of the time of year it was a bit difficult driving around the local roads. The food was very nice The staff were very friendly
The ceiling light in the bedroom itself was poor, it was an energy bulb which should have been nearer to a 100w but i did not say anything
Nice and clean. Excellent breakfast and pub downstairs served great food too.
Room could do with a lick of paint. Staff seemed very nervous. Friendly but nervous.
The staff were extremely friendly, relaxed and helpful. The room was clean and spacious and the breakfast was delicious . Excellent value for money!
Breakfast was good if not on the small side.
The hotel needs a lot of updating, a lot of the fixtures and fittings seem to be out dated. The window in the room was broken and boarded up, looks like it wasn't recent either. There was also a strong smell of damp in the bathroom.
Great location in a delightyful part of the Pennines
Seemed to be a 2-person operation who did everything
Didn't arrive till late and was made to feel very welcome.
décor very dated and rooms need updating but clean.
good VFM - excellent breakfast
accommodation very average - limited bar meals menu with too much emphasis on chips
The food was average, best thing about the hotel. Powerful shower. Very hot water (good for shower) Very hot radiators Friendly staff - don't feel that the staff are at fault, they tried their hardest but it is the poor condition of old hotel that let's it down unfortunately.
The room door was hanging on by one hinge, majorly unfriendly for a child (as we had our 18month old daughter with us) - we took a photograph to prove this!, Room pictures were caked in dust, furniture was poor condition, facilities were poor I.e kettle only made 1 cup of tea and also lead on kettle severely short so had to boil kettle on the floor over an extension lead (not good with a toddler around!) Cold tap fell off whilst trying to run a bath for my daughter. Shower rail was clinging on for dear life. Tiles in bathroom poorly fitted. Window would not stay up (old style up and down windows) had to wedge the bin in it to keep it open. Carpet worn beyond all recognition. Very noisy from bar & outside (went on until past midnight)
The food was very good
you get what you pay for castle hotel could do with being decorated
The staff were first class. The breakfast was out of this world, it set me up for the whole day. The location was ideal for my needs. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The room was cool which made my stay so much more comfortable as I find most hotel rooms far too hot. There was plenty of room to park. The value for money was exceptional.
Nice friendly hotel breakfast was lovely .
Good do with an uplift very old decor and furnishings.
room was in old English style (roomy with high ceiling). Enjoyed the bar downstairs showing an exciting football game. The lamb shank we ordered was well worth the wait
not being able to get a proper cooked breakfast before 7.00am. had to ask several times if we could even get cereal; even then we had to provide our own milk. owner was not very helpful & refused to take anything off our price (which included 2 cooked breakfasts)
TV in room faulty, No hot water in the morning

The hotel's position is excellent for a base to go and visit The lakes,Durham etc.
When we arrived, along with another couple, there was no-one to greet us at the advertised time!We had to wait nearly 2 hours to get in on a rainy, cold day.We have detailed our complaint to you about the first room we were put in.There were no hair-driers in the rooms.
The young lady in the morning was so helpful with our breakfasts, she could not do enough - excellent service there.
The room could have done with a good clean, dust and bits at back of long desk. Toilet could have done with Harpic being put down to give a good clean. No bath mat therefore it was dangerous to shower, so had to use bath mat in the bath to be safe. It said on our print out for the booking that the check in time was after 15.00 but got there at 15.15 and found the hotel locked up, no notes to say that they would open later, concerned as we had travelled 250 miles and didn't want to go any further. Instead of relaxing after the journey had to wait around wondering if we would get a bed for the night or whether we had to go further a field to find another hotel for the night. A man unlocked the hotel at 17.00, 2 hours later than stated on the confirmation - not good enough.
The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough the food was excellent no complaints the room was very clean and warm
You get what you pay for no complaints
Staff were excellent - friendly welcome and proper customer service.
Excellent staff Value for money Good beer Excellent breakfast
Tired need of update but everything one needed Water could be hotter. Bed side lamp did not work neither did replacement??
Only stayed there for 1 night. But we were made very welcome . Food was good.
The television was a work of art , took us a while to work it out.
