Room was adequate When we came down for breakfast we were ignnored for half an hour. We had no bowls juice or bowls so could not even help ourselves, I had to chase the staff for tea which was brought with no milk. I was told to borrow some from another table!! Terrible .. my husband walked out at one point but as our daughter was upset we tried to stay positive and continued with the meal which when it arrived was good. I had to ask for toast and then again for butter.. Not good at all

The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and there was a great bar with decent pub grub in the evening. Also, very reasonably priced. The decor in the rooms is in need of updating but I had visited a few years prior and can see that they are in the process of doing the place up. But even this isn't a major negative because it was clean.

The bedding was nice and clean and the breakfast although it took ages and not much choice in cereals was ok The bathroom was not very clean and it looked like it was only half decorated and mold on the wall and felt very damp I though £50 a night was too much and we had two rooms one for us and one for my son and grandson there room was not much better but bigger and was £40 we did tell them our grandson was bmx racing early in the morning but that didn't get breakfast any earlier

Staff were helpful and friendly and so were the locals. We had a problem with our new car and staff helped us while we waited for Green Flag. Bed was comfy. Bathroom fan was noisy.

Staff were friendly. Amazing location for access to mountains in Yorkshire and Cumbria. Fantastic breakfast and good evening meal available. And it was warm and comfortable, which really matters after a day out in the mountains. Good value for money. I'll be back! A little careless when it came to cleaning (there were all sorts of things left under bed by previous occupants! And carpet hadn't been swept). Fittings were poor - door didn't lock and tv not working but that didn't really bother me. No replenishment of the room - tea/coffee etc. It all seemed a bit "tired".

Staff were very helpful. There was a bit of a musty smell throughout and it could have done with a bit of a clean, though room was ok. Meals were not available and we had to go to bed hungry as we were late arriving.

The Castle Hotel was under new management and at present is a budget hotel and the rooms are a little tired which is reflected in the rates but it is clean and the staff still friendly. Breakfast is included and the food is still good but check what nights they are serving evening meals in low season, there are plenty of places within a few miles if needed and a couple in the village. It is value for money and we have stayed for the last 3 years to get the dog away from the bonfire night period as the hotel is dog friendly. Whether the new management will make many changes is yet to be seen but we will be staying again as we have no complaints.
