Set in quaint gardens, The Victoria Hotel offers traditional home-cooked food and free Wi-Fi. The hotel is a 15-minute walk from Canterbury centre, and just under a mile from Canterbury Cathedral.
Score from 790 reviews Good
Just metres from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free Wi-Fi and free parking, 2 minutes’ walk from the city centre.
Score from 1004 reviews Very good
In the private and peaceful grounds of Canterbury Cathedral, this stylish lodge offers free Wi-Fi, hearty breakfasts and scenic views. Canterbury’s historic centre is a 2-minute walk away.
Score from 501 reviews Superb
Situated within the Roman city walls of historic Canterbury’s centre, this family-run hotel dates back to the 16th century. It offers free WiFi, an à la carte restaurant, and a cosy, oak-beamed bar.
Score from 537 reviews Very good
Brilliant position in the heart of the city, close to bars and restaurants and right next to the cathedral. Very clean room with 4 poster bed and fabulous views of the cathedral. We loved the building, old and rambling and fascinating. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay.
We were a bit put off on arrival by the entrance to the hotel and the reception area, which was tired and scruffy looking. With a bit of work, eg lick of paint, exposed wooden floors, a few antique bits of furniture, nice lighting it could look fabulous.
Excellent location Rooms were clean
Not the the loveliest rooms
Good value, comfortable room, with kettle and good selection of drinks. Wifi decent signal. Included continental breakfast very pleasant. Some rooms with spectacular views of the cathedral.
Take advantage of the light covers to mask the green light in the ceiling once the main light is switched off. Also use the ear plugs provided on a weekend evening as there are a few late night revellers in the streets below.
The staff were great, very welcoming. Lovely room that had just been refurbished. Warm and cozy despite the chilly January weekend. Location just perfect.
Great location right in the heart of Canterbury, the staff were very polite and cheerful. we stayed in the Trinity room which faced onto Burgate, this was affected by the street noise late at night from people chattering and early morning when the street cleaners and bin men came this was due to the fact that the secondary glazing only covered the bottom of the window. The room itself was lovely and comfortable and the breakfast arrived promptly at 7.30am as requested, this comprised of cereal, toast, fruit juice and fresh fruit salad which tasted lovely. I would stay here again but would request a room at the back facing the Cathedral,
Street noise only
Central location Clean Friendly staff Good breakfast
Excellent hotel with lots of interesting nooks and crannies. Very old, full of character. Perfect location. Great breakfast (we had "continental" included in the room rate). All the staff very helpful and a joy to speak to.
We paid the extra for an en suite room. Great shower, and plenty of room at the sink and toilet. Just a shame there is no heating - it was a very chilling experience using the facilities in the middle of the night!! And a shelf near the sink would have been useful. Minor gripe - our tablet (just a cheap one) would only pick up WiFi in reception, not in the room or lounge.
The breakfast was fantastic
Could hear noise from the street in my room
Me and my husband had a really nice stay. Wasn't even noisy as said in the previous comments. Perfect location, staff were friendly and breakfast was really good!
Comfortable warm cosy room (Nov). Fantastic view of cathedral and convenient for old town. Staff friendly and helpful. A delightful stay we shall probably return one day.
Beautiful historic setting and building. Looking out over the cathedral at night, and having breakfast overlooking the Buttermarket in the morning. The helpfulness of the staff!
The reception area let it down slightly but the rooms were lovely and all you needed.
Our experience was very good and would recommend.
I would not recommend to anyone who has issues climbing stairs.
Friendly guy at reception
Booking.com 3 Star Rating Lack of safe Lack of working phone Communal bathroom No working wifi Youth Hostel feel and atmosphere Tired and old mattress
Fantastic location in town centre next to cathedral. Very old building with buckets of character but nice newly done out room and bathroom with beautiful bed! Great view of cathedral too. Staff were very pleasant and kind and even gave us bubbly for celebration of our first anniversary. All in all 10/10, would highly recommend this hotel!
The atmosphere was great, including the smell of the centuries and the outside rooftop walk to get to the rooms, which incorporated a view of the Cathedral. Staff were brilliant, breakfast was generous, the room had everything - a great combination of the very old and modern comforts. And great value for money.
I really had no complaints at all.
The hotel staff were outstanding. So friendly and helpful. Great location. Great view of cathedral from room. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
The room facilities were could have a better layout. I.e had to find a place to put kettle as no table for it. TV could go on the wall to make space.
Breakfast in bed, very nice! Location (cathedral view), staff and sweets
coffee at night was instant and not filter, not drinkable
Ask for a renovated room--the owners are fixing up the place and it looks quite good.
The location can't be beat--right next to the Cathedral, in the heart of the city. But it can be a bit noisy! So if you're concerned about this ask for a room facing the Cathedral close.
room well furnished and finished
being told my continental breakfast was free - I think he meant inclusive? and it wasnt what Id call a continental breakfast either. No shower screen or curtain which quickly turned bathroom into a wetroom, no wall bracket for showerhead either. Badly lit rooftop walkway to the room, step down not highlighted or well lit and no 'reminder' warning sign displayed either which lead to a fall.
Fantastic location in heart of ancient city at the very gate of the beautiful cathedral & on top of shops. Old & quaint with beams & sloping floors. Gleaming modern shower rooms though & immaculately clean. Single room good size & well equipped with fluffy towels, toiletries & tea, coffee, hot chocolate in room, plus friendly staff & generous breakfast.
Perfect but for security light in bedroom that glowed green all night. Discovered too late that they do have covers for these so be sure to ask. Be prepared for stairs & don't worry about lack of en suites, hand basin in bedroom & lovely toilet / shower rooms very close by.
The location and the comfort
The stairs. The hotel is not really suitable for people who have difficulty climbing stairs.
Full of historical character. Sensitively refurbished . Excellent value for money . Delightful staff . Delicious breakfast . We were in the newly refurbished rooms . Some are still to be decorated .
The green night lights ! Arrived very late they forgot to mention there is a cover to block out the luminous green. And the beautiful shower doesn't drain quickly enough so there is flood danger !
The location and our room overlooked the square
No en-suite sharing the toilet and having to leave the room to go to the toilet during the night
Beautiful view, easy parking, fantastic location
Shared bathroom but knew before booking
