the hotel was lovely and the staff very attentive although a little too much trying to encourage you to order in the restaurant.
Basically this is a very tired facility and long overdue for a refurbishment. Very dark everywhere - didn't feel very clean.
Very friendly staff, especially the girl that booked me in.
Room tired and in need of redecoration
The bed was comfortable. nice big bath towels 25% off online so price was fair Room size was good
Bathroom and room really tired needs renovation. Breakfast staff not very attentive, got order wrong. no salmon available for the breakfast. no greeting in the morning by staff. very cold in restaurant in the morning.
Situation was excellent, very quiet and handy to good road system. Restaurant was excellent value and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
It was a pity that the garden are near the rooms was not in good order.
The staff were friendly, the breakfast was good, the bed was comfortable. Good location.
I asked for an upstairs room as when you stay in a downstairs room you can hear the upstairs because all the floors are squeaky and you can hear the toilet being flushed as well..as I had a dog I could only have a downstairs room apparently although when I booked I did ask for upstairs. I have stayed in a couple of downstairs rooms and this is a problem at this location.
the staff were willing to consider my request for a quieter room although we had only booked the day before, when served flat prosecco, the bar waiter willingly replaced it when asked. lovely garden to sit in although much of the other grounds needed some care.
Friendliness of staff
Initial advice required to find entrance to our room (was it No. 24?) - hidden behind steps of the upper rooms! Whole set-up has signs of wear & tear - could do with a re-vamp. - E.g what an interesting variety of chairs in the dining room!
Not a lot
The room .The bathroom The walk to the hotel for breakfast The steps up to the room across a patio
Range of breakfast Nice place to eat in the evenings
Staff generally good but took two days to replaced bedside lamp and we had arranged and early morning call to get to Lundy island but no call came.
Comfortable room, and kept clean, staff were excellent
difficult angled bathroom, water to hot and 5am flood from the toilet.I temporary repaired and reported twice not known if repaired by hotel stairs uncleaned throughout our stay. Saturday papers were lost so did not arrive. Garden areas to apartments overgrown and uncared for
Dinner facilities available on site
Rooms rather dark
Rooms in a cabin layout in the garden separate from the inn. Big choice for breakfast.
Bathroom extract not efficient - works on moisture content (not a timer) so works for ever.
Polite, friendly, efficient staff Clean, comfortable bedrooms Food OK
The public areas are perhaps slightly "tired" but The Cedars offers value for money.
Very good choice of breakfasts
Bedroom smelt, musty/damp. Drinks from bar were expensive.
Staff mostly very friendly and helpful especially a waitress called Rebekah! Cleanliness very good and beds very comfortable! Good assortment of drinks available in oom and replenished daily! Good breakfast menu though quality and quantity varied.
Room good size but very dated and dark! Grounds were overgrown and full of weeds, with a little care they could be stunning! To access the car park or the main building for meals etc the walkways had overhanging foliage and pathways were very damp continually!
Rooms were nice size, with large Double Bed, Dressing Table (containing Hairdryer) Wardrobe (with hangers, ironing board and iron) and a large bathroom (with toilet, sink, bath/shower). There was also a flat screen tv with all usual channels. Was all very clean and tidy with cleaner coming in both days to refresh towels (if needed) and arrange room. Breakfast was lovely. Had a large range of items; cereals, pastries, fruit, yoghurts that you could help your self to. Then you had an option to choose from a breakfast menu, which we had the English Breakfast (Sausage, bacon, egg, tomato, mushroom, beans) and toast which again you helped yourself too. We also had a main meal there 1 night and found the food to a very high standard with lots of choice from the menu. Staff both at the hotel, restaurant and bar were all very polite and extremely helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent, you are minutes drive away from Fremington and Barstaple, 10mins away from Bideford and only about 20mins away from Ilfracombe. It is best that you have a car though as not sure how public transport would work getting around? They also have quite good entertainment most weekends which tickets can be purchased for at a reasonable price, though we already had plans with friends so could not attend. Highly recommend this hotel and would defiantly return again.
Original choices for breakfast and good evening menu. Big room and comfy bed.
Room was a bit musty smelling and very dismal. Very little natural light and poor electric lighting.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the bed was comfortable.
The smell of synthetic cleaning products in the room was so strong that we had to prop the door open. However, the room was not properly cleaned - cobwebs on light, lavatory not brushed, grease on base of shower door, another guest's beer glass left outside our room on a Friday was still there on Sunday.
Didn't like the food
Musky smell and rather dated
Room had strong smell of mould which was in bathroom and bedroom. Every thing you touched in bedroom and bar/restaurant area was sticky. Food was not as good as it was on our last visit. seats in bar area were badly stained and some were torn.
The room was fantastic large area breakfast was great and so was the evening meal. Beautiful gardens and great place to stay
