The breakfast that's all
Olive tree was poor Luke warm food poor selection of meats potatoes like rocks greens poor
Food at Terry M was fantastic.
Staff were the most helpful at front desk when checking in and didn't seem as welcoming due to the booking being made at reduced rate through booking.com
Excellent facilities and great room.
Most expensive buffet I have ever had - restaurant billed as superb choice but very limited, no gravy for roast joint, vegetables soggy and roast potatoes not roasted but fried.
great location ,quiet,& good choice of restaurant
car parking was a challenge but we got there in the end
comfort of our room and all the public areas ,positive attitude of all the staff we encountered.
having to go home in the morning.
Very high standard of finish in every way.
Buffet restaurant a little disappointing
No towels in room on arrival, had to wait 20 minutes until they turned up. Requested room service, never arrived. Long wait at breakfast for coffee, some staff rude when asked.
Room was very comfortable.but overpriced. Leisure centre was excellent.
Paying for parking. Quality of food in buffet Casual attitude/lack of training and management of some staff especially in dining rooms. 5 star building with 3 star service
the staff are very friendly and helpful.the rooms were very clean and comfortable.the food was excellent.the pool area, was very clean and tidy.will defenetly be staying hear again.
nothing to dislike
Hotel is classy and comfortable. Food is great and there is a good range of dining options.
4pm check in is unreasonably late. (In fact, though I was advised more than once that my room wasn't "guaranteed" until 4, I didn't actually have it until 4.15). The previous occupants had to be out by 11 so I don't think it's too much to ask to have your room before dark
Just about everything
Impressive Foyer, Swimming Pool and Spa , Food in Olive Tree Restaurant was Fab , booked B&B breakfast had an excellent choice.
Rooms were very dated and require a re-refurbishment was very disappointed we asked to be moved because we had a smell of sour milk in the mini bar and the wardrobe door was hanging off.
the staff made you feel special from the moment you arrive until you leave. nothing was too much trouble and we were well looked after for the whole of our stay
Cost of alcoholic drinks especially wine
The deluxe room was lovely and comfortable with all the facilities we required. Lovely big comfy bed.
We were advised by the shuttle driver to try the bar downstairs where it opens at 5pm and has happy hour till 7. we went with friends at 5pm to be told it would not open till 5.30pm. not satisfactory. We dined in the French restaurant the food was lovely when I asked for a capuccino coffee was told coffee machine broken not really the standard for this hotel, At breakfast when being given my toast I asked where the butter was on the table madam was the reply. wrong we had to ask for it as none on table. really not good enough.
The hotel, the location, the comfort and the food. The greeting upon arrival by doorman, and the parking of the car. Then, it all went downhill rapidly.
When checking-in, the receptionist said she would organise a car at 7.00 pm to take us to Northbridge on Usk that evening. At 6.55 pm we spoke to concierge (a foreign gentleman) who said he would check for the car - he went through the back door and we never saw him again! At 7.10 pm, fed up with waiting, we spoke to an elderly gentleman (English) at concierge's desk, who said he had just come on shift and didn't know anything about a car for us! A car eventually arrived at 7.20 pm. We were never told by anybody that Northbridge on Usk was miles away - we were expecting something on the complex. The food at Northbridge on Usk was very good, but service very poor. Not once did any waiter or waitress fill our glasses with wine or water (and we consumed 2 bottles of wine!). In brief, apart from the doorman upon arrival, my suggestion is to sack the rest of the staff - they wouldn't last 5 minutes in my company.
I liked being cared for by the teams of friendly, professional staff whose aim was to make my stay as comfortable as they could. I liked arriving at my room after a swift booking in and finding a courtesy tray with Welsh Cakes on, a simple welcome but so nice. The welsh theme throughout the hotel was fabulous and the welsh foods at the restaurant was so good. The variety of foods at breakfast suited all tastes and diets and was a feast for the eyes and appetite. A very good stay at a comfortable hotel in scenic surroundings.
Having to leave:(
Location Club House Merlins Bar
* Customer Service in the Olive Tree restaurant was close to nothing (ie : nobody cleaned our plates when we finished our starters and main course). We also had to pour our own wine...very poor customer service although there seemed to be lots of staff in the place..even during breakfast the next day we had to move our plates to a different table... * when we got to our room we noticed that one robe and two pair of slippers were missing. It took about an hour to get them and when we got to the pool it was very crowded with lots of children which meant that we didn't relax or enjoy it.
Location of the hotel Good starting point for tours into South Wales Great golf courses
Very big hotel Very loud especially in the hall and at breakfast Breakfast queues
Excellent leisure facilities. Brilliant breakfast Very helpful staff
The comfort and the surroundings
Paid good money to stay at hotel thought car park for guests should be free I qued for 10 min to be seated for breakfast waiter took order for tea after visiting Buffett there was no butter asked waiter for some sat down waited 10 min still no butter and a further 10 min after I had finished breakfast still no butter or tea eventually tea pot comes and no cup for it waited another 5 min then it came with no spoon eventually as I was about to leave the butter arrived when checking out out looked at my bill bottle of red wine £21 and then £4 for service charge also when I booked hotel could only get 1 night instead of 2 when I arrived asked if there was a cancelation to stay 1 more night there was and would be a extra £180 considering I got it for £130 and when checked next day it was £140 all in all where was the value for money
The service is excellent everywhere
Drinks prices are quite high
Food and drink overpriced
Delay's and at one point no action from reception/housekeeping, no hairdryer in room requested one but it just never turned up
The guests come first and the staff are trained to this end
