The continental breakfast is not great. Also, we didn't like the fact that you cannot get the English breakfast in the rooms. There must be something about food we quite didn't get, as there is also this strange rule of "no take away in the rooms" (really? and why?), though there was no problem for us as we always ate out.
The decoration is so granny's house in the 70s, but I wouldn't say that I did or did not like that. It's just a matter of seeing it as a B&B not a hotel, I'd say.
It is expensive in terms of the money it costs, but it turns out to be average when you know the prices of similar places in Cambridge.
It does not have a lift (which we don't need), but probably many people expect it if they have problems to move or carry a lot of luggage.
In my opinion, it would gain many points (and avoid a few negative reviews) if they called it a B&B as it is a good one. Calling it a "hotel" you tend to expect a bit more "luxury", a more fashionable style, and even maybe a lift and receptionists who carry your luggage. We didn't get any of that and we were happy just to have a clean, comfy place to stay for the weekend, but I can see why some customers are disappointed. Besides, being Cambridge prices higher than other places, can lead to confusion.
It is clean and has all the basics. Very friendly and nice staff. The room had a cancellation cost of £20 that they refunded me after having to cancel the first time and then rebook again (I actually was called straight away after my second booking).
Reception closes at 1am but there is no problem if you arrive later, you just need to press the doorbell. We ordered breakfast in the room and they seemed surprised -it seemed to me that they don't get that order often, so they forgot stuff, they had to come up twice and kept calling us on the room phone, etc. but it gave us the impression that they wanted to do their best and were helpful, they actually apologised despite it was OK for us. They also let us leave our luggage in the reception after the check out for a couple of hours, despite not having a lot of room to store it.
The location is superb. It is literally at a 5 minute walk from the train station and from central.
