There seems to be more interest in making money than customer's happiness. Lack oforganisation and poor management. Overcrowded, expensive and out of date facilities etc!! Many hidden extra charges
Wonderfully raxing and chilled atmosphere! The therapist are all very professional and helpful. I stated 3 days x 2 nights and loved every minute except for the checking in and checking out!!! Need intention as very disorganised other than that fabulous
Sorry as stated above
The whole atmosphere of Forest Mere.Interesting evening talks, friendly people and plenty of comfortable corners in which to be quiet or to chatter.Staff were so helpful and friendly. Food excellent.
Ambience, outstanding food and excellent facilities.
Mattress was too soft and my wife got back ache as a result.
Room was dirty when we checked in which should never happen! but the manager gave us a free bottle of wine for the inconvenience! Facilties basic- hot tub is cold- rooms and main areas looking very tired and worn! Food is still very good but budget spa break only!
Scuffed furniture. Room was next to lift shaft and cleaners cupboard so could hear both for most of the night. Cheap looking doors to hotel rooms. Laminate wood effect/lino in the en-suite shower, cheapened the look and feel of hotel. Spa has a whirlpool but no free jacuzzi (happy to be corrected)? Steam room in ladies was not working. Overall, the hotel is looking a bit tired and attention to detail appears to have waned.
Accommodation block and room tired, basic and in need of refurb. No treatments available. Steam room unbearably hot and unusable. Dissappointing.
This spa is set in a beautiful location and the facilities were excellent with a lovely atmosphere. The food was scrummy and healthy. I became ill during my stay (unrelated!) and the staff looked after me extremely well. In fact all the staff, including housekeeping, were lovely and friendly.
The Wi-Fi connection in our room was poor and this affected my husbands ability to respond to work emails. Such a shame. He left site to get a better signal as mobiles were discouraged in the public 'free hot spot' area! No bar available during our stay but we could order a drink to be sent to our room.
Beautiful grounds Spa Oozes relaxation Juice bar Very comfortable bed
Rooms too corporate - could be in any chain hotel
Good facilities, lots of different activities, a healthy lunch option.
Surroundings are beautiful
Dated decor, restaurant(s) all serve the same bland food
Lovely quiet ambience, no mobiles allowed. Lovely view over the lake. Lunch was of good quality
Activities, tranquility and total relaxation
Handy for Goodwood. Safe parking for Valuable cars. Nice quiet room.
No bar. No Full English Breakfast.
Beautiful surroundings and the local pub!!
Very basic room no better than a travel lodge. No bar as a "health retreat". Does not state this on the website. Hard to find staff No double beds! Our singles were zipped together. Creaky uncomfortable bed. Rusty shower.
Staff were friendly and helpful Variety of treatments were brilliant Food was fantastic Rooms were clean and comfortable Excellent stay Good value for money
Buildings and décor were a little tired looking although we were informed that there is a huge renovation taking place during November.
Staff were excellent and the setting was fabulous
The Good: 1. Less than 2 hours door to door from central London 2. Set in beautiful grounds with a lake and a golf course and close to some beautiful walks in the South Downs 3. Close to good restaurants - try Lythe Hill Hotel and Spa - it is magnificent. Overall This hotel is riding off the previous good name that Champneys had in the spa industry. It is sub-standard and Champneys need to seriously invest in this place to bring it up to scratch. You can only ride off the back of a good name for so long.
The Bad: 1. The facilities are very (very) dated. Just one steam and sauna - separated into male and female so you cant enjoy time with your companion of the opposite sex. There is one shared sauna but it is tiny. 2. No other facilities that you could expect from a spa using the Champneys name - no cold pools, hot pools, no ice rooms, nothing at all luxurious 3. Breakfast is disappointing and feels like you are eating in a canteen. 4. The whole place is in dire need of refurbishment and a thorough clean. The Downright Ugly 1. We were given a really poor welcome because we were “agency guests” ie had booked through Booking.com and not Champneys directly. The irony is that with the number of treatments we were planning on having, we would have ended up spending more money that Champneys direct booking customers. But we were so fed up by the end that we did not bother. 2. Arrived in our room to find it dirty – dusty, hadn’t been vacuumed and there were stains on the bedding! Housekeeping came to change the bedding and explained they hadn’t seen the stain because they “never turn over the bedding”. Er, what?! 3. Our “Superior” room was v disappointing – sparse and basic, think Travelodge… 4. With the room problems, we asked to change rooms. We were told only one room was available but that we had to pay for it. Doesn’t seem right since we were only moving because our current room was shoddy. Nevertheless we agreed and said we would move once we returned from dinner. Spoke 3x to Reception to confirm this plan. 5. Returned from dinner and were kept waiting 20 mins whilst staff faffed around. We were eventually told that since it was late now (2130), they would sort it out tomorrow. WHAT?! So what if it was late (it wasn’t), why couldn’t they move us? Sheer laziness 6. Next morning, we spoke early to Reception to have us moved. They said they sold the last room! The room they assured us they would save for us.
I was very pleased with everything
Possibly the food for the buffet lunch could have been more imaginative I remember when I went often years ago, under the old regime the buffet was fantastic.
Could not book evening meal as "full up" and had to eat out. Could not get a glass of wine as an evening drink unless it was had with dinner. Crazy check in time of 17.00 and check out by 10.00 Breakfast could have been served earlier as I missed out because had to leave by 07.30
The Grounds, the lake and the peacefulness, and the comfort of the bedroom, bed, good linen etc
They were not expecting me and the fact that I had to wait 45 minutes( at 18.30 hours, when I arrived) for the to have a room cleaned ! Also the chambermaids constantly knocking on my door from 07.45 and opening the door with their keys to see if I had left etc ! (4 times to be exact up till 09.00 hours) when I asked them why they were doing this, they said that they had a list which stated that the room was unoccupied ! Breakfast was caotic, no tables, staff took a long time to clear tables and re-set, and we were very cramped. The Indoor Pool and Jacuzzi were very cold (water) to swim in.
- facilities generally quite good, lots on offer and well maintained - decent size swimming pool, good mountain bikes available, lots of golf courses nearby, quiet and tranquil location. - room good size
- I've been around a bit, and frankly I've had better, for less money, elsewhere in the UK. - definitely more of a strict health retreat than a luxurious relaxing break. Think brocolli juice shots for breakfast, limited selection at the bar, and luncheon plates with divisional markings to indicate optimal amount of proteins etc to take. - two restaurants, but both offering same menu, which was very limited in choice but well executed and delivered. Restaurant staff were fantastic. - spa facilities were OK but rather weak in comparison to rivals in the same price bracket. Indoor pool was dangerously freezing. Outdoor pool was great temperature, mid-summer. - bathrooms are in desperate need of modernization - problems with reservation on arrival - the tarrif for booking.com customers is essentially a bed and breakfast rate, and doesnt include use of the pool/spa facilities. Not sure this is evidently apparent when booking. This essentially doubled the price we were expecting to pay, not a great start to the trip. - staff seemed unfamiliar with the tarriff for booking.com customers, we received differing and conflicting explanations of it, one of which (from the Spa) was very aggressive and had my (pregnant) wife reduced to tears without apology. - no desire to return, though there is a good offer available to those that do wish to. - not a place to take young kids
Needed to stay locally for a wedding, only place available. The sauna and steam room proved a welcome bonus for the morning. Very comfy bed.
Arrived and checked in at about 2:30am. The night watchmen didn't have a clue about the booking, put me in available room and all was cleared up in the morning. Maybe check they have your booking during office hours!
Adored the setting
The price of treatments
Lovely spa and lovely location.
There was no bar so you couldn't have a drink in the evening without having dinner there, which was very civilised- I am sure it would have been nice but it didn't make that very clear on the website.
