Score from 131 reviews Very good
Poor selection on the menu, and the additional surcharges.
The staff were friendly and helpful. My room was downstairs and had patio doors with a table and chairs outside. There was a bottle of complimentary water and champneys toiletries in the bathroom. The spa facilities were excellent, I felt like a new person after just one night stay, the breakfast was lovely too.
There's minimal mobile phone signal, so prepare for real peace during your stay!
You could be in your little bit of heaven, staff, beautiful & attentive but discrete & subtle.
The room was beautiful, with lots of little extras and a wonderful nights sleep
The shower didn't work properly but upon mentioning this to reception I was swiftly moved to another room.
The position and facilities are good
Breakfast was allegedly included in the price but a coked breakfast was charged as extra. The booking had not been confirmed on arrival.
setting and range of things to do
being told on arrival 7.00pm that the cost of dinner the previous week at £18 had increased to £25 an increase of 39% !!! given that there is no alternative to eat a bit disappointing
Very comfortable bed.
The way the hotel kept trying to promote a longer stay, inducements to return again . They were trying too hard.
The location the steam room and the food was gorgeous
I had twin beds, when booking was made and paperwork supplied said double but I was in twin room,,, The room was lovely and i felt very relaxed in it
Staff amazing, dinner excellent, pool and leisure facilities fantastic
Staff were very polite and efficient. Good choice of tv channels.
Room was very 'tired'. Wallpaper ripped in parts. The bathroom had chips out of the bath enamel and some of the tile grouting was black with mould. Pillows were extremely hard.
We enjoyed using the spa facilities.
We had to wait for service at the gym front desk twice. We had to find somebody.
The surrounding countryside and the staff
Room wasn't as clean as it should be - bin in bathroom hadn't been emptied from previous occupants. Decor looked tired and dated Exterior of building needed some decoration 60 p delivery charge on a Daily Telegraph that costs £1.40. In a hotel of this supposed stature one would have expected a complimentary paper let alone a delivery charge ! With breakfast included in the room cost, it was a disappointment to note that an egg carried a minimum extra charge of £4.50.
Facilities, price (special discounted price)
Bedrooms were dated and not up to standard
Comfortable bed , quiet room ,excellent sleep
Waiting at reception to check in for 5 minutes before someone turned up. No offer of hot food for breakfast and then charged for two breakfasts on check out which was resolved . Nobody at check out so had to go looking for someone .
Late arrival caused complications at check out and not being listed for breakfast
not a lot
the postcode given was incorrect and as this was only evident when arriving at the wrong place it was further compounded by the telephone numbers given on site and by directory enquiries was also wrong/not answered. upon arrival the price agreed with reception was then changed by the morning staff. not a hotel I would use again
The staff are very welcoming and helpful, the room was very well equipped and comfortable and the atmosphere very relaxing. Dinner was excellent as was breakfast and excellent value for money! We will be back!
Comfortable bed, good bathroom products.
Cold room as the windows were left open. Twin room when we requested a double. Old decor and not comfortable - felt like student accommodation. We were moved to a better room where we felt more comfortable.
Excellent gym and spa facilities
Not ideal for a business traveller. Food stops serving at 9pm and breakfast only opens at 7-30am. The receptionist for check out doesn't arrive until after 8am.
the service is great, so is the place, The facilities are open till 9pm which is good
no in room dining (no prices on menus or treatments etc)
Very quiet location that was easy to find. The room was very nice. Friendly staff.
The pool area was very basic. No robes or slippers were provided. The hotel did not have any record of our booking through Booking.com. Very late check-in 5pm! This hotel does not really cater for one night bookings as I felt all the other guests were on a Spa package and we were not. We chose to eat in the restaurant on the evening of our stay and this was additional to our room rate, (not a problem) but after requesting a bottle of wine the waiter immediately bought over the bill to sign. After ordering our food the waiter immediately bought over the bill to sign. After making my selection for dinner (my selection incurred an additional charge) the waiter immediately bought over the bill to sign (get the picture). This could have been completed on one bill at the end of the meal but it felt that it was of paramount importance to sign, sign, sign. We weren't going anywhere and my credit card was swiped when we checked in!
Front of house looks very impressive and luxurious
The room was basic and tired and not up to current standards of expectations for a room that cost £279 per night. Decor very dated, old carpet and curtains and beds uncomfortable and given a twin room even though requested a double. Wasn't what I expected from the champneys name and brand and first visit will probably be last on the basis that room was not nice at all and the pool area was basic. Very small sauna.. Bordering on cupboard like proportions as steam rooms only in changing rooms so couldn't use with partner. Jacuzzi was same temperature as pool and bars to sit on instead of seated area. So disappointed with room will not be booking again as there are nicer spa resorts that do not charge as much as here. Trading on the champneys name with out the luxury of champneys! Didn't even have champneys products in the bathrooms of the hotel? Mixed bag of toiletries and not even any soap to wash hands so had to use shower gel. Shower over bath was old and scaled and bath had discoloured too.
The spa was gorgeous; luxurious, tranquil and exactly what we had hoped for. We both felt incredibly relaxed during our stay even without any treatments!
The pillow!! Seems a silly comment but the pillow was so high/hard that we found it hard to get comfy.
The tremendous welcome I was given by Maggie Lennon - lovely room - pleasant and tranquil interior and exterior
Good gym and tasty food
Room was awful: Toilet smelled like wee Bed very soft and springy Shower adequate at best No blackout on curtain so light at 05.30am TV didn't work No phone signal in room
