Champneys Springs

We were at at wedding and because the post code was incorrect we spent nearly an hour from Whipsnade Zoo to the hotel. We could not book in until 1700 on the day and book out at 11am. This meant we were less than 24 hours in the hotel. We felt this was not good value for money. We believed breakfast was included in the price but had to pay for cooked breakfast.

The room was very comfortable. The swimming pool and spa facilities are excellent

Some of the staff were a bit patronising. The sauna and steam room could have been hotter The toaster is crap

The design of the spa

Virtually nothing - but we were there overnight to attend a birthday party in town so did not use the spa facilities. The bed/bkfst rate at £259 is frankly outrageous. Worse still, whilst the pool/sauna were free after 17.00, there was a charge of £25 per person per day to use this facility before that time ! Breakfast was OK, if one didn't mind the surly staff

See above. This is Premier Inn type accomodation at 3 times the price with cheaper, more utilitarian bed linen and a very basic bathroom with no separate shower. No robes or slippers in the room altho the "arrival blurb" said that there were ! This hotel may be acceptable to the spa/treatment guest on a budget package. It is wholly unsuitable for an overnight stay.

Staff were pleasant Gym was well appointed

I have never written a review before but felt compelled to do so as my stay was so poor. Firstly I was given the wrong postcode so it took me 45 minutes to find the hotel on the dark. I called the number in the booking and that number wasn't manned after hours. I eventually found the number and the receptionist couldn't guide me in as she only knew one way in!!! When I got there at 8.15pm I was told the restaurant was closing in 15 minutes. I rushed to get changed but shouldn't have bothered. The food was tasteless, warm at best and over priced. I went back to the room and the heating had been left on so it was boiling and I needed to leave all the windows open all night. The tv remote didn't work so the channel couldn't be changed. I got into the gym early in the morning and after a decent workout went back to the room and the shower didn't work. By the time the bath had run and been used I had missed breakfast!! All on all shocking. My stay including dinner and wine cost nearly £130 for 13 hours!!!

The hotel was very good value for money with excellent facilities and a lovely view. The room was very comfortable. The food was excellent and well priced (£18.00 for 3 course set menu).

The only thing that I would point out was that my room had not been very well hoovered !

Nicely set back from the road. A warm welcome on arrival.

The standard rooms are basic and not very comfortable. Lack of coat hangers in wardrobe, beds very uncomfortable and only one pillow (with pillow case provided) per bed. Bathroom needed updating. Staff on check out got our bill wrong and questioned us for ages before they agreed to correct it. This is not a resort for couples. Steam room & sauna are situated in ladies/gents changing rooms,so could not enjoy these with my husband. Spa facilities were less than I had expected for the price I paid.

The non-smiley miserable waitress at breakfast. You're just a room number! When you did get her attention to order a breakfast all she wanted was your room number that was all! She must have known how I like my eggs so it was easier to just leave.

As a female traveling on her own, I felt very comfortable , very professional team makeing everyone most welcome, treatments available till early evening, so if time after work this is a great plus, together with wonderful leisure facilities, not your normal run of the hotel down in the basement area. Restaurant excellent food and service + wine list good choice. Breakfast selection excellent I even found some butter ! Large car park also on site, with plenty of lights. Another plus I found was that there are also plenty of walks within the grounds. Thankyou for a most enjoyable stay

Friendly staff, relaxing ambience, attention to detail, quiet open surroundings.

The hotel decor is looking shabby in parts and that was not the luxury I thought we had paid for. I am keen to try another Champneys hotel

The spa facilities were very good. It had a luxurious feel and a very relaxing atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

For the price that you pay to stay overnight, you would expect better quality rooms to go with the above average price tag. The room gave us a feeling of staying at a basic "travel lodge" type accommodation. If you don't purchase one of their package deals then be aware that you will have to pay extra for the use of the spa and hotel facilities.
