Quiet for close to city centre
Needed a taxi to city centre as not on a main route.
Lovely welcoming hotel.gas fire and leather sofas in lounge
Air conditioning in the conservatory of hotel
We could walk to princes street in 10 minutes.
The shower in our room only produced boiling water and it was impossible to have a shower. However there was a lovely deep bath that we enjoyed using instead.
Small comfortable hotel, very private
Staff were friendly and helpful! Breakfast was amazing!! Hotel was lovely! Lovely comfy sofas and a fire to sit beside and chill out with a drink!
Wonderful little hotel with everything you could need. Very friendly and helpful staff. The place was a perfect base for a long weekend exploring Edinburgh!
Good hotel in a nice location
- great beds - very clean rooms and facilities - excellent breakfast
A fabulous surprise upgrade to a junior suite meant an extra special stay for our anniversary. We'd also booked afternoon tea - delicious from start to finish. The staff are always welcoming and helpful.
Nothing at all - we'll be back!
The hotel is wonderful the welcome was great and the character of the hotel is lovely.
breakfast was delicious but the atmosphere did feel a bit harassed and not very relaxing.
Really lovely hotel, perfect stay for a couples get away weekend. Cooked breakfast was absolutely amazing with some of the best haggis we had ever tasted.
nice lounge area; good bar; excellent breakfast
Small double room was very small, but comfortable and sufficient since all I needed was a place to lay my head. If I'd wanted to spend time in the room, it would have felt a bit cramped.
Quite location with old deco.
Staff was not friendly at all, also they have breakfast timings and staff was not willing to work out best help my situation….also room lack in basic facility of heating, no slippers provided and they expect guest to walk in bathroom where windows and door are not properly insulated in 1 degree temp. Pictures and photos were great, but when you actually experience facility it sucks...no really value for money...
The tasteful decor retaining the Georgian feel. The professionalism of staff.
the toilet took over 20 minutes to refill.
Clean room, great view, Excellent breakfast, helpful staff.
A warm welcome, a very comfortable room, and a great breakfast - we'll definitely be back.
Always a friendly welcoming hotel! Food and breakfast splendid!
If I have a comment it's about the pillows! Due to an old spinal neck injury, at home I have Duck Down pillows which mould well to my neck, Channings pillows are a little firmer, but still comfortable!
Having been charged by the girl on reception for toothbrush and paste i asked house keeping for one for my wife and when i asked how much it was they said no problem there is no charge. Also breakfast room was freezing cold.
I decided to stay in Channings after seeing all the amazing reviews online, it wasn't too far out of the city centre either (15 minute walk to Princes Street). The staff are very welcoming when you first come in and there's a grand fireplace which seemed to always be lit. The room was very spacious, it had your usual facilities. We had a Jacuzzi bath, which worked perfectly. The only problem was the bubbles, don't put too much in or you'll find yourself lost in the bathroom within a sea of them! That's not the hotels fault, just our rookie-ness. The bath was an alright size, I could sit down in it no problem (I'm about 6"1 - Larger than average build). The bed was by fare the comfiest thing i've ever slept in. I didn't wake through the night at all. The entire feel of the building is great, its a very warm, slightly posh, homely feel. With creeky hallways and everything. They have a bar and restaurant below the hotel, hotel bars are normally slightely on the pricey side, but Channings was quite reasonable. We only went to the restaurant once, I had the pigeon starter, which was lovely and the steak for the main, which was cooked perfectly. My girlfriend had the Fish and chips, which was really nice, but be warned! The portion was huge. Breakfast is always served downstairs near the restaurant with your usual continental stuff littered about for you go and grab. If you want cooked food you just wait for the waiter to come take your order. I had Haggis for the first time! Which to be honest, I don't like that much, but was lovely to see some Scottish culture on the menu. All in all, this Hotel is by far the best I have stayed at in Britain and if you're looking to go to Edinburgh, business or leisure, this is definitely the hotel I would recommend.
Wifi was pretty slow, couldn't watch my youtube at night before bed. But I was out most of the time anyways, so it didn't matter. Other than that I can't fault it and I'm only pointing out the wifi if I'm REALLY nit picking. Beautiful place.
The room was spacious, the bed was huge and comfy, the bathroom was big and elegant, the location very good and staff were very helpful and courteous.Place is value for money and would highly recommend a stay in the charming hotel.
Excellent location - only a few minutes from the West End, and bus stops also nearby. Staff were most helpful and friendly; double room was very comfortable, and breakfast offered an excellent choice. For a small hotel this offers real comfort and warmth of welcome.
Really couldn't find fault.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Facilities were excellent and the food in Shackletons restaurant was of a high standard. We stayed in a small double room which was more than big enough and the bed was very comfortable and was massive. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we enjoyed our stay. Would recommend to friends and would defo stay again.
Parking restrictions in the area were a pain. Had to keep feeding the meter every four hours which was very restrictive.
Huge comfy bed awesome shower helpfull and friendly staff
The 'full Scottish' breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Nearby bus links if you don't want to walk to the city centre (walk to Waverley train station about 20-30 mins)
WiFi stopped working on at least 3 days during my stay.
